  1. Actually, we also previously had a picture of Bernie Slaven which prompted a discussion about the possible location he was photographed at, which I think was eventually decided was Ochilview... anyway here's a different one of Albion Rovers future international star in an ape like pose... But where is he playing and can anyone identify the opposition team and player (because I can't)? Maybe it's Forfar Athletic?
  2. I thought I was having a bad case of déjà vu...so take our minds off that Albion Rovers team pic, I'll post another one of their Championship winning squad of the late 1980s Either the suit was a giant or the team was affected by dwarfism... In a footnote, I watched the Dons play Albion Rovers in 1989 at Fir Park and was suitably impressed enough that I sent away for their Club Shop Price List...If I remember correctly, I bought Albion Rovers home shorts and a pennant...
  3. From the 1981 album, in my 6 year old mind, I thought Greenock Morton was a very strange and exotic place, and none more strange than the Afro wearing Jim Tolmie. A big life regret for me was that I never saw Tolmie play in the flesh unless he was in the Billy McNeil International Select that came north for John McMaster's testimonial as it was populated heavily with his own Manchester City team. However fairly certain Tolmie didn't play.
  4. Did someone else not post this picture fairly recently? In fact, I'm pretty sure the same comments were made about it although last time someone mentioned the stand behind the team. I know this thread attracts us 40+ but I hope we're not all going senile and posting the same pics every couple of months.
  5. Despite Sevco playing tomorrow tonight, Sportsound saw fit to give Kenny McIntyre twenty minutes tonight to greet about his heroes. Get this tabloid standard Sevco loving fraud off the presenters chair please BBC and plead Richard Gordon to return.
  6. I only listened to the match on the radio and it sounded very entertaining. The application of VAR is shambolic at the moment, and it's inevitable that the one team is going to score and it's going to be ruled out because of a positive penalty check at the other end. However, I suspect that VAR is making the games more exciting at present because of its tendancy to give penalties every 20 minutes at either end.
  7. This is correct, that although we managed to keep a clean sheet against Hearts that Sunday it was due to the impotency of Hearts attack rather our defensive resoluteness in as far as there was a number of sitters missed by the away team. I don't think even the most ardent of Dons fan can truthfully say he has any faith in us keeping a clean sheet against any opposition. If I was the Livingston manager, I would be on the front foot and testing our defensive flanks as much as possible. Having said that, we're scoring freely at home and I think it's only a matter of time before we score 3 or 4 in a league match away from home.
  8. Edinburgh has produced some of the staunchest Ranjurs men, none more so than the man who shares his name with a long dead UDA man. What's not to like about getting wee Griegy out of the lodge and working again?
  9. I'm not disagreeing that they've added to the atmosphere although I haven't particularly noticed that improvement myself from my Section Y position and, with regards away matches, I've only been to Stirling away. It did look like the atmosphere at both St Johnstone and Motherwell was decent though. The bedsheet artwork was definitely raised from where they are standing last Saturday. I don't think there was anything menacing about it but it was childish sentiments, childishly expressed and lacked any amusing content (like Peter Weir lays on more balls than Emmanuelle or the Agent McLeish one*) and, in my view, a bit embarrassing to be held up in our end as representation of our support. It just gives that morons in the home end ammunition to claim the high ground over something that didn't really give anyone much pleasure. I much preferred Andy Cameron being 'attacked' (well not really but funny all the same) by a pitch invader. I don't mind them taking the high ground for moments like that... I suppose what I mean is, if your objective is to upset them then do it properly and put some effort and/or thought into it. *Or even the Spanish language your Ma's a Mattress although I was irritated by that because I'm standing directly behind the banner and caught on camera whilst the perpetrators all hid under the banner...
  10. My apologies, well I had assumed that the bedsheet artwork that was produced in the away section yesterday was their work. So if that's an example of the thoughts of this group then "Kill All ****" , in my view, is rejection of any notion that violence is inherently wrong to solve issues and in their view only their version of the 'final solution' is the way to deal with the perceived enemy. However, that could be utter nonsense, and it might be more a case of boys being boys when they're mobbed up. I suppose I keep seeing their preference of black and associating them with fascism. But to answer your query, no I haven't heard of any specific instance that links them with an extreme right-wing outlook (yet). Although, if it's these lot that bricked the St Mirren supporters bus then I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they up their game and show their colours. But I've actually no idea who is in this group.
  11. Completely agree but you can see that many of our fans don't mind throwing up the white flag on our visits to Glasgow. If you don't have the stomach for Glasgow then you ain't going to win much as has been shown by our pathetic trophy haul over the last 32 years. But remember we won't be judged on what we do against two teams in our own league but against all the other shite blah blah blah. Yesterday was an embarrassment
  12. Whilst I agree that there's absolutely no chance of this Aberdeen team finishing second this season and unlikely we even take anything up the road with us points wise on Saturday, I still think Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs and to a lesser extent Dundee United could and possibly should be doing better at narrowing the gap. I think the Gruesomes get it too easy. I read 'The Ball is Round' by David Goldblatt and he mentioned that the Argentinians have a specific term when the match is already won before the players come out of the dressing room because of players mentality to certain matches. I think Lee Johnson has mentioned something similar this week regarding the homegrown Scottish players and it's a point of view that I agree with. I know that the vast gap in finances, and larger squads make it so difficult today (and then you counter-in the bias that exists in Scottish football where referees are influenced towards them and we have to play semi-finals and finals in their city), and we've seen this season with their European performances that the Gruesomes are just as powerless when the boot is on the other foot. However, I still feel that they aren't tested enough, that the belief isn't there in managers and players that they can beat them. Sometimes it looks like they can play at 50% and still win, not because they are so much better, but because of that lack of belief. For example, I've always felt that they sign stronger forward minded players than they do defensively. Yet teams will go to Glasgow, give them all the possession they want and sit in hoping that they get lucky. Of course, 9.99999 times out of 10 that policy will fail as it only takes one lapse of concentration.
  13. I think both the issues you raise at Fir Park and Tynecastle are reasonable and justified concerns. It would be good if someone addressed any issues picked up in the opening matches of VAR to the media so there can be clarified (an improved on in the forthcoming weeks).
  14. No what really makes a shite match day experience is when you get a perfectly good early goal ruled offside and you end up losing the match or you concede a fairytale penalty to the gruesomes. If I have to wait a puckle of minutes longer to get a decision based nearer on fact then so be it... That Hearts vs Celtic game was classic yesterday because VAR was able to 'assist' the referee and linesmen make the correct decisions that didn't necessarily always benefit the big team. And, of course, refereeing decisions have influenced tournaments. What about Maradona's helping hand in the quarter-finals that helped Argentina gain control in 1986? What about Harald Schumachar nearly decapitating Battison in the semi-finals and remaining on the pitch to help his side progress to the final in 1982? What about Ireland failing to qualify for 2002 because of the Henry handball?
  15. I thought VAR called it correctly, neither incident was clear and obvious from the replays available.
  16. VAR isn't going anywhere and it's the game that benefits rather than individual teams (some weeks it will go for you and other weeks against you) by a higher percentage of decisions being called correctly.
  17. Do you want the club to push the boat out to keep young Barron? What is the "more" that you want the club to do? Make him the highest paid player? At the end of the day, if the player wants to leave then there's not much the club can do about it apart from sell him before he gets anywhere near the end of his contract.
