  1. Dundee United had a good team in the late 1970s/1980s and we've had a pretty poor ones during large swathes of the 21st century. In my view, the fans travelled down to Tannadice on Saturday with more swagger than the early season performances merited. I thought we would lose by the odd goal beforehand although the manner of the collapse surprised me. Perhaps it's that "air of confidence" is the problem that Aberdeen fans (rightly) believe we are a bigger team and thus should sweep them aside but that just doesn't happen as often as we would like. I would like to see their record against us in semi-finals though. I remember being shocked that we actually managed to beat them at Tynecastle in 1990. I suppose the only way we were going to beat them was by hammerig them like we did that day, if it was close and started going to replays then we invariably lost like we did in the Scottish Cup in 85, 88 and 94.
  2. It seems perverse to me though, that for anyone in a support that has complained so often about incorrect refereeing decisions should be so steadfastly against technology that will assist referees in reaching the correct decision. I read recently on here someone mentioning the Killie game where Mikey Devlin was incorrectly sent off after six minutes and basically ruining the game as a spectacle and for everyone paying £20+ entrance. With VAR, overturned, Devlin stays on the park and the match remains 11 vs 11. Or the Top 6 play-off game last year against Livi (I think), when Besijuin was taken out by the keeper and ended up getting booked. With VAR, overturned, keeper booked and penalty for the Dons. These are just a couple that spring to mind, and of course, there will be a few that go against us, like for instance Miovski's simulation last week against Killie to win the pen; however, I would rather that than seeing weekly game-changing incorrect decisions made by Scottish referees.
  3. I was joking with the Luddites comment. You won't find a bigger football traditionalist than me and I hate the post-Bosman era of football. However, I'm sick of Scottish referees, particularly, with their incompetence and how they're easily swayed to benefit two clubs. I've no doubt VAR will be end up being abused here but I'm hopeful that it might set the cat amongst the pigeons. I'll probably end up hating VAR too though.
  4. In my opinion, Dom Ball was similar to McCrorie nowadays in as far as you weren't quite sure what his best position was, although McCrorie is a vast improvement on Ball. But I would watch Ball and see him do absolutely nothing of note in a match. However, I might be biased against him for two nightmare performances in Scottish Cup semi-final defeats (Motherwell & Celtic).
  5. He certainly did that with a few although I recall him not only continually playing Greg Stewart and Dom Ball but resigning them too and subjecting us all to another spell of ineptitude.
  6. The Leader of the Luddites has spoken...I would rather VAR than get shafted from incompetent/fearful/corrupt referees. I agree it will not guarantee 100% accuracy but it will considerably improve the current standards. It makes no sense to have technology available to improve the officiating at matches and not utilise it. There are issues with it's application during game time which need resolved but that will improve over time and use. And for the record, I don't think VAR would've overturned Scales on Porteous either.
  7. The group of neo-fascists (Lithuania excepted)
  8. Oh well, there's always Liverpool's visit to Snake Mountain this week to cheer us all up.
  9. Richardson only played two league games for Forest (when they were in the Championship not the PL) but was out on loan at fifth tier Notts County so presumably we bought him on the strength of his performances for County.
  10. Goodwin was quick to identify the deficiencies in the Stephen Glass team but now he's got to be ruthless with his own buys if he's to save himself. I watched 20 minutes of the second half of the Peterhead match and it was obvious that Stewart couldn't pass water (I mentioned on here at the time) and serious doubts about Richardson were already surfacing by the end of the Stirling Albion match. Firstly, he needs to drop Richardson and send him back to England's fifth tier. Meanwhile, Stewart needs to stick to the basics of heading and kicking it as far as he can until he can be replaced in January or Goodwin tries Milne immediately. People will say the captaincy doesn't matter but the fact that Goodwin gave it to this jobber from England's third tier brings further into question his judgement. He's not quite Jerel Ifil standard but he's not good enough for even Top 6.
  11. I'm in Section Y...I actually hate the view and constantly on at my mates every summer to find another place in the stadium nearer to the action with no success so far.
  12. Killie offered the square root of f*ck all yesterday. It was nice to see Goodwin utilising his squad yesterday and giving game time to Watkins, Ramirez, Milne and Duncan. I'd still like to see Duncan start instead of Kennedy and give him a run of games. The worrying aspect would be that despite Killie offering nothing they still managed to get a free header in our box for the goal. I'm pretty sure Taylor didn't even need to jump for it. Richardson is still a problem that needs addressed.
  13. I do wonder why he only won 4 Scottish caps...even with that paltry amount he still netted twice including once against the Auld Enemy (although the other was on a preseason tour of Canada). I suppose the answer will be that we had the luxury of many quality forwards back then but if that was the case then why were we blowing the cobwebs off Joe Jordan and taking him to Spain in 1982? We also were pitiful in our attempts to qualify for Euro84 so I'm convinced McGhee would've been worth a try as he was at the peak of his powers at the Dons.
  14. No, he lives in Brighton does he not? I don't think we'll hear much of him again up here
  15. I know it's often we say this; however October is a big month primarily because we have a lot of fixtures during that month. A poor month winning minimal points and getting dumped out of the cup by Partick Thistle is going to be problematic for Goodwin with regards how the fans view him as an Aberdeen manager. A poor month in league and beating Thistle won't do him much good either because the Thistle match is an expected victory. Dundee United, Motherwell and Sevco away with Delboy's team and Hearts at home looks particularly tough but realistically both Killie and the Thistle cup match should see two wins. If he can't win these two then I struggle to see how we can take much from the other four. Barring a catastrophe, Goodwin will be Aberdeen manager until at least the end of the season but he needs to keep the fans engaged by winning matches and perhaps toning down his media appearances. I just get the impression that Goodwin hasn't yet fully adjusted being at a club with slightly higher expectations and profile.
  16. Mourning is subjective. If anyone is as misguided to actually feel any sorrow about her passing then they should not attend a match and allow the rest of us to get on with it. Once again they impose their illogical views and opinions on how the general public should conduct themselves just like during the pandemic.
  17. Having taken 88 minutes or whatever to take the lead, it's mind-numbing incompetence and unprofessional to then allow them to equalise in the final moments. I haven't seen the game yet and don't know if I can bring myself to watch it.
  18. I put that down, in part, to the fact that the Rat MkII (Wright) had just left for Sevco and everyone was pleased to see a young player commit his future to the club. However, you're right, he definitely wasn't viewed as negatively as he is now back in January 2021, which could give Saints fans hopes that he can have a positive effect on the club if he regains a bit of form with regular first team football.
  19. I'd be surprised if, at the end of the loan deal, St Johnstone seek to make the deal permanent; however, I've no ill will against McLennan and hope he does well.
  20. Ramirez doesn't want to be here, Goodwin doesn't want him so he must leave before the window shuts. If the only way is on loan to Hearts then do it and, of course, he can't play against us... But Hearts on loan should be the last option.
  21. I'll see your Tommy McLean and raise you Stevie Paterson. Ok he managed a few more games but getting pissed with your injured players on the Friday night and missing the Saturday game is right out of the first line of the Largs manual of Scottish Footballing Management Methods.
  22. I heard one United fan on the radio say they wanted "an experienced manager like Duncan Ferguson" It would be a great 'banter' appointment though and would generate some interest in the Scottish game although I find it unlikely that it would be particularly beneficial for United. Ferguson gives me the impression that he's something of a manchild.
  23. I'm hoping we get one of the Gruesome Twosome at the home of football. Although it doesn't happen all the time as it did in the past, we can't hope that they get drawn against each other. I don't fancy a Hampden semi against either so we might as well try our luck against them at home. So ideally, the Gruesomes get drawn at Pittodrie and Tynecastle. But it's unlikely to happen. We'll probably have to visit Fir Park or Tynecastle.
