  1. Well I hear people mention sacking him now and, in my opinion, that would be mistake. I don't think it does the club any good. However, I'm not convinced his heart is in the job like it was 3 or 4 years ago. I would prefer if he left by his own decision in the summer and we take our time from now in finding the right replacement.
  2. Do you suggest that he's irreplaceable at present ? Just asking, I don't if you were seriously asking or if it was rhetorical? I've said before and I maintain that McInnes should consider leaving in the summer before things really start to slide.
  3. Aye, there was a Covid outbreak but I didn't want to go down that road as there was a suspicion that it affected mostly reserves and they might have been attempting to line up an excuse beforehand because they had concerns about their match fitness. I don't think their preferred first XI that night was affected much by Covid.
  4. If I remember correctly, the general feeling was not that Sporting were shite but they weren't match fit due to their lack of competitive matches at the time , which was substantiated by Seb Coates or whoever the big mouthed Uruguayan defender was blowin out his ass after one hour. Now, Derek had, quite rightly, used the lack of competitive action against teams whose season had began as an inhibitor to progress in the competition. But we lost an early goal and couldn't breach their lethargic rearguard action. And as a footnote, they then lost 1-4 at home to LASK in the next round who themselves were knocked out in the group stage by Spurs and Antwerp. There was an opportunity for us to at least reach the play-off round which would have been progress and an achievement of sorts. Or put another way, it's probably the best chance we'll get to knock out Sporting in Lisbon, if you consider they were a not fully match fit team (relatively speaking in comparison with ourselves) playing in an empty home stadium, and we were playing quite inventive football at the time both domestically and in Europe (with very impressive win in Norway). But the sale and loss of McKenna just before the Sporting match was a big blow to us.
  5. Can't argue with any of that, and I agree that Forrest is a good player. I haven't seen him live with Livingston but I remember him from Ayr United...
  6. I'm surprised the Canadian hasn't been along to inform the thread with his ITK stuff regarding this swap deal with the devil we're supposedly engaged in. I remember a few months he was font of all knowledge on here... "we don't care if its true or not, it's good to read" said one poster... My feeling is that Wright will go this window but there will be no player swap. If we get the McCrorie deal finalised then it's a good piece business. Wright can join other local lads David "Mason and Chelsea" Robertson and Union Jack as persona non grata in the City of Aberdeen. The names of Davie Robertson offspring is an example of what happens when you become one of them. You're not just signing for a club but a right-wing political institution. And that is magnified for the Scottish lads*. Make no mistake, Wright will be mason by the end of the year if he isn't one already. He'll visit dubious 'fan clubs' in both Scotland and Northern Ireland and opportunities will open for him. If he isn't a rat presently, then it will only be matter of months before he is fully initiated in that world. Let's hope we can give him a warm Pittodrie homecoming next season... *I actually think Richard Foster was an exception to this and he was castigated by their support, primarily for being shite but also because he didn't embrace the 'ethos' of the club. I don't feel sympathy for him though the rat...
  7. I remember reading that when he was at Partick Thistle, Tomas Cerny was going hiking and learning about the country his job and taken him. He seemed a cut above the average footballer and its great to hear that he intends to stay on in the North East and, I think, might still have a role at AFC. Hopefully he continues to visit Pittodrie and we gain other lifelong Don. So I wish him the best of luck in his post-football career
  8. There are better options than Curtis Main I'm sure (although I can't provide any off the top of my head) that don't require a third helping of Stewart. He had more than enough time at Aberdeen to pull his finger out and he steadfastly refused to budge (Siroki aside, which gave me hope that we had a player on our hands). I remember being particularly pissed off with him after the Stenhousemuir game at Pittodrie but can't remember why now.. The second time I remember being happy that we had got him and he proceeded to be absolutely honking. I won't fall into that trap again. Anyway, I'm very petty and can't purge his smug coupon and lit jig of h*nnery delight... F@ck him
  9. Greg Stewart is shite and has proved it over two spells with the club... To take him back a third time is just lazy incompetence.. which exactly sums up the player himself Whatever he once had at Dundee and a brief half season at Killie is no longer present. A Sevco cast off.. Plus he's 18 months older of which he's spent sitting on his arse at Ibrox. Why would anyone think that's a good signing? Have you forgotten is little jig of delight when he scored practically his only goal or goals, I can't remember, for Sevco against us?
  10. ... And who has achieved just as little in his time at Aberdeen as Wright. Either these young players aren't good enough or McInnes isn't giving homegrown youngsters the opportunity to shine.
  11. Your club ruined a reasonable league with its financial doping aka cheating.
  12. It's a bit rich talking about building professional relationships and overlooking rivalry for the sake of a good deal when the original club to whom you're referring of didn't knowingly sign a Catholic for the first 120 years. However, alls fair, that doesn't apply to the phoenix club..
  13. So if they were shite old days are these magical ones Blockhead?
  14. I'm proposing that it would be best for all if McInnes left in the summer before things go awry. Winning the league!? Heaven no, you've already mentioned that it's a duopoly. We're happy to finish 3rd and win the Scottish Cup once every 50 years.
  15. If we aren't your rivals why are you lurking about on this thread? However, I agree to an extent. I was more referring to the old club rather than the phoenix one. The games had a bit more bite pre-2012. Although that season we knocked you out both domestic cups was enjoyable.
  16. I'm not defending McGhee but he was working with a very limited budget. We were millions in debt before the intervention of Willie and Elaine Donald. A new manager isn't going to be operating with a squad consisting of players of the standard of Kerr, Mcdonald, Clangers, Duff, Grassi, Ifil, Young et al... How do you think McInnes would've got on with that lot? Covid has been a big financial set back for the club but McInnes leaving doesn't send us spinning back to 2009 conditions. Also, "when things looked good" we still got knocked out of Europe after barely landing a punch against Sporting Lisbon team that hadn't played much if any competitive action that season, and were pumped in the next round. We still played without passion and again without laying a glove on the opening game of the season against Sevco. The warning signs were there that a McInnes team weren't going to progress any further than previous seasons despite what seemed a generous backing to improve the squad by the chairman over the summer.
  17. And persisting with an incumbent against the will of the majority brought us 11 years of Thatcherism..
  18. If Stephen Glass becomes Aberdeen manager then we'll know Cormack hasn't done due diligence to find the best candidate for the job. For that reason, I think it's nonsense. McInnes is though finished here. He wants out and the fans should want him out. He did well from 2013-2018 but he's now past his shelf life with the Dons. I suspect, and would prefer, he left in the summer but I think it would be a tragedy for both parties if he remained past the summer. You only need look at McInnes now to understand that his ship has sailed and he himself wants a fresh challenge. The fans that are scared of change need to get a grip. We may well go downhill initially and we may well go through a couple of managers until we find the right one but we need an injection of freshness around the club.
  19. I'm not so sure, it makes me feel uncomfortable when we're in debt to them. McCrorie won't be here 5 years but I agree that we might make money on him. My problem is with McCrorie himself but the club he came from. I could be wrong, but I remember reading it was 50 years since we've signed a player from that neck of woods albeit a different club now (Jim Forrest I think). There was a reason for this, they were our rivals. Let's not start getting cosy with them now. That's why I don't want any of there benchwarmers coming up here either in the short-term or 'permanently' as part of the Wright deal. And let's get this deal completed and get Wright out the door asap. The idea of taking players on loan or buying from the Ugly Sisters doesn't feel right. The Christie on loan deal was embarrassment too. No doubt someone will inform me that the Christie loan was brilliant because we nearly signed him. And what if Wright becomes an incredible bit of business for them? They liked Jack too, and they did us favour with McCrorie so are the going to start cherry-picking our players?
  20. Jordan Jones!! I hope not...why must we take any of these Sevco rejects?
  21. Cormack needs to stop dealing with this club. The year long debt to them for McCrorie was an embarrassment but we shouldn't have even dealt with them if we were in a position to pay off the bat. He's obviously forging links with this club at boardroom level which is very concerning. However, we have a debt to pay so let's shift this player out to them during this window to start paying it off and please don't take anyone of their bench warmers in return. I'd rather we start giving opportunities to some of your younger players.
