  1. Ended up watching the Open Goal interview with Ian Murray as I was struggling to sleep, it’s amazing how Raith have let him have so much more freedom with the media (and club media) so much more than it seemed he had with us. Don’t get me wrong he always spoke reasonably well in the pre & post match snippets but I always thought he was a bit of a quiet guy happy not to be in the spotlight. 18 months later and he can’t be kept quiet!

I agree that I think he’ll have a decent career but I think he needs to keep Airdrie up first and push them on. I can see a few teams overtaking them in the second half of this season.

Generally think what you’ve posted in this thread has been absolute toilet but this is actually a salient point.

Rhys has shown promise with us, that’s all. He has got us out of League One after a decade of toil and in both seasons so far he’s had tough runs and had to go back to the drawing board to tinker with system and styles, and he’s the better for it.

But his stock will only really hold water if he keeps us in the division this term. Then (and when he has the appropriate coaching qualifications) he will be a candidate to take a step up in his career.

  3. Looking forward to this one as a nice distraction from league business. St Johnstone will come down the road as favourites but as posters above have said we’ve given Prem teams a wee shock at our ground recently and our Cup form this season has been grand.

Hopefully we hang on to Megwa for a week longer to give us the best chance of a Cupset… going to say it’ll be tight and end up 1-0 either way.

  4. Just wonder how long the Megwa saga is going to drag on for. I realise he is a Hibs player but do feel that we are being messed around a bit here with the constant “will/wont they recall him” that’s being played out at the moment.

Hopefully it won’t come to this but can foresee a situation where the days keeps ticking away while Hibs don’t make a decision, all the while leaving us less and less time in the registration window to sign a replacement.

Wouldn't be against seeing what the Airdrie manager could do with a bit more cash. He's still new enough to fit inside Mathies model although perhaps we should be looking for someone that will challenge the current thinking

    Right you, that’s plenty.

Rhys & Fordyce are from West Lothian and have families settled in the area, not sure how a move to Ayrshire would sit with them… and also not sure how much more attractive the Ayr job would be to Airdrie currently. Here he has the final word on recruitment and doesn’t have to answer to CEOs etc.

I think we must be one of the most attractive clubs in the country for loans at the moment.

There was an item in a Hibs fan media website, featuring an interview with their Head of Youth, saying that he likes sending players to Airdrie because we over play, and it forces their young players to make the right decisions under pressure to develop within Rhys’ system.

Put bluntly, I can’t imagine we’d be getting the same loan players & plaudits if we were playing Gary Bollan-ball.

EDIT: The article is at this link, albeit behind a paywall. Easy to get round if you know how.

I'm really unsure about this and are we spreading our wings far enough on the recruitment front or do we just ask them to find us a player?

I get what you’re saying, but ultimately the strategy has got us to our highest league position in over a decade, so I’m not sure now is the time to question it.

When we were signing dross like Jacob Esposito, Nico Sumsky, Taylor Morgan, Daniel Boateng, Joe Gorman and James Daly… that’s a time to question recruitment strategy.
