I was told yesterday morning that Camp ell is away. I've just read the thread and there's no mention of it. It would be weird that the guy was playing for Arbroath not long ago who told me.

Always assumed Dick would be in much the same situation that Martindale has carved out for himself. He’s pretty single handedly build the club from League 2 to being competitive in the Championship, and he’s very vocal about the effect that’s had on season ticket sales, sponsorship etc. If it is all him why would the club get rid of him? Or is that the problem?

Too early for a punt on Rhys McCabe?

Simply, yes. In all seriousness though I’m sure he has a young family in school and has spoken previously about wanting them to be settled when he was appointed last summer.

2 Scottish managers who are doing quite well at the minute are John McGlynn and Ian Murray so think one of them for the hot seat. I'm sure some fud like Barry Ferguson or Lee McCulloch will be getting tipped by the record for the job

John McGlynn needed the big teams out of League One to make a run for the title despite having the biggest budget in the division, and even then Hamilton have threatened to show him up this term. Avoid. I’d be all for Ian Murray, his “quick send all of our strikers on the park for the last 20 minutes” style of football deserves the big time.

  3. Since the game on Saturday, I just keep thinking how much better shape we'd be in had we have kept Smith and possibly to a lesser extent Easton. Todorov should have burst the net with his chance in the first half that rattled the crossbar, and Gallagher could've had the winner at the death from Telfer's freekick, meanwhile Smith takes two touches and scores.

That said after the weekend I'm feeling a lot better about things. I think McMaster has to start every/most games as he brings so much to our midfield.

  4. Changed jobs last month. Took the plunge and left a toxic workplace that promised much over the 18 months I was there but ultimately failed to deliver on stuff like shift patterns and relentlessly called, text and emailed on days off, albeit did increase my wage by 35% over the piece.

Now I’m earning £500 more a year for a job that is much the same but without toxicity, has a 4 days on, 4 days off pattern and doesn’t call on days off. What a life.

ETA: from the point I handed in my notice to when I left, not one of the management team said a word to me, not even a “thanks for your hard work”, don’t know why but it really got to me.

crisp passing and not just hoofing it.

Heart was in mouth at some points with our “playing out from the back”, must say, but that is how we have committed to play football.

It easily could’ve been 4-4 at half time. The difference in this league is our forwards hitting the woodwork twice and drawing 3-4 quality saves from Dabrowski and his magnificent hair, yet Smith scored with one touch. Did think that Smith got past McCabe too easily and Rae was in no man’s land as he usually is. I’d love to see a heatmap of Rae’s positioning during a match.

Thought we looked reasonably comfortable until Hancock went off, and for the first time in dunkeys a three at the back system was working. I also think Taylor-Sinclair is our best defender with the ball at his feet, hopefully he isn’t out for too long again.

This said, Raith’s movement in the final third was fantastic. Vaughan, Stanton, Connolly & Smith, later with Easton, all dovetailed really nicely and clearly have a good understanding of playing together.

  6. Looking at things statistically, it’s taken an average of 35.2 points to stay in the Championship in 8th place over the last 5 seasons (the one anomaly being the 19-20 Covid season where QotS stayed up in 9th with 1.00 point per game, so take that as 36 points and no play off). I think we’ll be there or there abouts. My worry is that over the first quarter Inverness & Morton were far and away the worst sides and now they look like they might have turned a corner.

  7. Albert Fabrega and Will Buxton both alluding to an “explosive rumour” that was floating around the Mexico pit lane… speculation being that it is about Alonso &/or Aston Martin.

Some explanations so far… Alonso retiring, Alonso replacing Perez at Red Bull & Stroll selling Aston Martin.

  8. Jesus wept folks. We're currently in our highest league position since I reckon about 2012. If someone said to me "you'll be fourth in the Championship with a quarter gone" at the start of the season I'd have bitten their arm off.

Got me also thinking what our nadir as a club has been over the last decade. I have memories of going up to Peterhead around 2015 or 2016 and being played off the park. We had such luminaries as Kevin McBride, Nico Sumsky and Taylor Morgan starting. Harrowing days, I can't remember ever being so livid with an Airdrie player than I was with McBride after that game. Still though, 50p stovies was a plus.

  9. Any iota of clinical-ness from either side would have won that game last night.

Thought McGregor looked a bit over-awed by it and I think he's starting to get found out slightly, in that he can put the afterburners on and go past a player but thats really it. McStravick looked a real bright spark and I feel out wide might very well be his best position as I wouldn't want to make our midfield any more lightweight - the physicality of the match meant that Aiken & McMaster couldn't really get in to the game. Todorov makes for a useful plan-B but when he comes on he really has to make the chances count, like Gal does.

All in all top 4 and 13 points from a quarter is a good start. I'm certainly not one of the doom-merchants who believes "playing out from the back is killing us" or that the "directors need finger get out" and I think the style of play has probably got us to where we are. We still need perspective imo - anything higher than eighth place is a success for us this season, despite Rhys' optomism.

  10. Looks like CDKeys is the most reliable place to buy this season. Confirmed access to Beta and cheapest at £32.99. I have bought and already been loaded into Steam.

  11. Been using Mozza's Scottish DB and for the most part it's great - however it appears to have re-drawn league boundaries. As Gartcairn, I was promoted as Champions from WOSL1 to the SoS League, along with Colony Park of Inverurie... while runners up St Rochs and St Cadoc's went up into WOSPrem straight away. Wasted a season in the SoS and now in Lowland League, eventually. It'll be a nice wee challenge to see how far I can get Gartcairn before FM24 comes out.

  12. Edinburgh closed at short notice twice over the weekend for emergency runway repairs, which is an aberration if you ask me. An airport’s main asset is its runway. Without it they don’t have the ability to fleece any Tom, Dick and Harry for fast track security, parking charges or £7 a pint at 3.30am. Of course they could’ve used their other runway for the intervening period when the repairs were ongoing… but they put a car park on it 5 years ago and concreted over the rest of it with aircraft stands that can’t be used in the winter because the drainage goes straight into the Gogar Burn. Have also actually heard the main runway is about 3 years overdue for resurfacing, they just won’t commit the money to it.

You could call it getting men behind the ball but the Airdrie strategy is so basic - side to side, backwards, side-to-side, hope the opposition gets frustrated and overpress then a long ball forward. It's doesn't take a tactical genius to say, "let them get on with it, they aren't going anywhere ". I can see how it might work when your team are ahead but when you're already behind it just kills the game.

    Thanks for that, Pep.

A wise man said to me today that he'd rather watch players on their way up than those on the decline. Couldn't have put it better myself. Seeing hungry young players starting to realise their potential and playing an excellent brand of football under a highly motivational manager who sets high standards...... We've been crying out for this for years and now we have it. What's not to like?

This is a fantastic point. Wasn’t so long ago that we were surviving in League One and relying on players like Fitzpatrick, Simon Mensing, Kevin McBride, Iain Russell (albeit he did a job) and Hugo Faria. It’s alright saying we need experienced players but I think the crop we have now actually has an alright balance. And they’re doing much better than the retirement express looking for their last pro football gig.
