Remember Allan is still our player unless we give him a deal to go. I doubt anyone will offer money for him.

Shanle hasn’t shown enough to me to warrant a contract for the Chanpionship. He’s a neat player but for me he just isn’t good enough.

Shanley is only 23 and has potential but he’s not shown enough to suggest he would do much in the championship at the moment.

A few have suggested keeping him as back up but he’s not going to develop sitting on our bench or in the stand as 21st man so I don’t see him as particularly suited to that role.

I've heard we have offers on the table for 3 players currently with the club so I presume that is Tait, Ross and I presume Mackie.  How many players we bring in will undoubtedly depend on whether these 3 sign or not. McKenna is a done deal and the other keeper will be a loan deal looking like stone. If all 3 sign I can't see there being that many more permanent signings through the door depending on what happens with the likes of Jordan Allen.  I'd expect probably a couple of loan signings perhaps after that probably.

Could it not be Tait, Ross and Shanley?

Hanlon would provide vast amount of experience considering the career he’s had. Like McGinn, it’s something you can’t get from younger players.

Agree- it’s great having a young squad but you need to have experienced players alongside them.

No idea if the rumour is true but personally think it would be a fantastic signing.

Would you take Sean Mackie, Dylan Tait and Ethan Ross again? I certainly would give Mackie and Tait another year. Ross is more of a borderline case and I’d probably be having a look what else is available first.

I still think we need an alternative option to Ross MacIver up front. Shanley has never convinced me and I prefer Gary Oliver playing just behind. Depending on how ready McGlynn feels Keelan Adams is I think a right back should be added to cover Finn. Possibly a versatile right back that can also play CB because it would be good to be able to keep Hendo in midfield even if pick up an injury or two at the back.

In short I think we basically need to replace the roles of Sean Mackie, Dylan Tait, Ethan Ross, Stephen McGinn, Sam Long, Leighton Bisland and Ryan Shanley in the squad, although in the first 2 or 3 cases that “replacement” could just be a new contract for that player.

Agree with that. Tait would be my first priority. Mackie has done well at centre half and would be a good back up option provided he’s on a reasonable wage given he can cover two positions well.

Ross isn’t a player I’d be looking to throw money at to keep. He’s a decent squad option but doesn’t have the end product to justify a starting slot. It’s possibly money that could be used elsewhere as I’d also have Agyeman ahead of him in the pecking order.

Shanley is still young but for me hasn’t shown nearly enough to suggest he’d contribute much a league up. He may develop but he’s not going to do that sitting on our bench or in the stand, so I don’t see where he fits into the squad if we sign another striker. Oliver and Agyeman can cover that third choice slot if need be.

Keeping them all would also leave us with 18 signed players which doesn’t give us much room to bring in additional quality.

What an unbelievable season and a great way to mark 20 years of TFS. John and the boys have done the whole town proud since day one and not only was the football and absolute joy to watch, but seeing the next generation of Bairns belting out Falkirk anthems makes me realise the club is in great hands. Being in the Championship is an absolute minimum requirement for this club and I think we can go even better.

By my calculations we’ve got 14 signed up for next season? Have I missed anyone?

    Hogarth in goals

Defenders - Adams, Donaldson, Lang, McCann, Yeats

Midfielders - Agyemang, Henderson, Miller, Morrison, Nesbitt, Oliver, Spencer

    Forwards - MacIver

I think 3-4 top quality signings over the summer would get us into contention for the playoffs.

Think that is correct as I don’t imagine Allan will be here. The priority for me would be getting Tait and Mackie signed up in addition.

  6. Fantastic day yesterday. Thought it wasn’t going to happen as we weren’t getting many breaks. More than deserved the draw though and the battling performance typifies the difference from previous seasons.

Everyone at the club deserves credit for what has been achieved. Hopefully some of the 7200 will be back next season.

With some quality additions we have the potential to challenge at the top end next season and keep the positive feeling around the place going.

  7. I think the club have done the right thing in maximising the number of Falkirk supporters in the ground while still giving Alloa a sensible allocation.

It’s not as simple as just a bunch of day trippers turning up- I’d imagine the vast majority will have some connection to the club. Even if only a small number turn up next season, it will improve the budget and atmosphere.

Me and my mate were the only 2 of our wider circle of friends who went to the semi final in 2015.  Up until we scored it had been an absolutely dire affair, my mate ( who's had a season ticket since he was about 5) turned to me halfway through the second half at 0-0 and said " I honestly don't think I can pay money to watch this shite any longer"    even after we'd won there wasn't a whole lot of buzz around Hampden as it looked like we'd just be turning up to get pumped in the final. It was only the following day when Inverness beat Celtic,  that cup final fever really hit and we had a bus load of folk going, some of which were going to their first ever football match.

anyway,  it's a funny old game football

I do think the appointment of Houston and the cup final (along with Rangers, Hearts and Hibs being in the league) attracted back a lot of fans who had chucked it under Presley and Holt, and many of them have stayed since even through the dark times.

We only had 2500 Falkirk fans at the first home game of 11-12 and that number stayed very similar until Houston came in- just over 2000 for some matches and only 3600 for the 2014 play off against Hamilton.

We have not been close to those lows since, even though the product on the pitch has been far worse at times.

My brother was at Murrayfield taking match photos for Falkirk Rugby club - they won the League cup.  He'll be chuffed.

My opinion of MacIver certainly did improve.  I can see his value a bit more.  Still can't help thinking if we kept Burrell how many more goals we would have scored. There is a reason the other players who voted for team of the year didn't put him in the team, and I would suggest they might know more than we do?  Could be wrong though.

So yes, he went up in my opinion today.

I actually think Burrell is a good player and think he deserves to be in the team of the year. However, for me Maciver is a better fit for the way we play. Yes, he could be more clinical but he has also been a big part of the reason we have scored so many goals as a team.

  10. Great battling performance. Defence shaky at times but that will happen when you’re down to 4th and 5th choice who have never played together.

Miller and Nesbitt were particularly good. Thought Agyeman again looked dangerous when he came on- he would actually be my first substitute across the front four as he is a nightmare for defenders.

On to next week now and the chance for the players to write their names in history.

  11. As far as I’m concerned, £1 spent by a day tripper is extra money in our bank account, and is more than welcome.

The easiest way for any business to increase income is to get existing customers to spend more. I’m sure the club will have plans in place to capitalise on the extra bodies through the gate. Certainly not as simple as “they’re just ugly sisters fans”.

Provided he’s not on too much money and on the basis he’d probably be going into next season as third choice as I think we’ll sign another striker, I’d keep Shanley. I think he’s got something about him and that will only improve with quality coaching.

Shanley hasn’t done a lot wrong but equally hasn’t done anything to suggest he’d make much impact in the championship for me. If money were no object, I’d be looking to put him out on loan for a season to league 1.

As it is, I’m not sure there’s much benefit to anyone having him sit on our bench or in the stand. I think the money would be better going towards a new striker.

I’m going to be in the minority here but I’m still not convinced that we should be offering Mackie a new deal.

He’s played very well recently, however, my biggest criticism of him as he can be a complete liability at times and I’d argue that even in these recent games he’s done things that show he still carries that trait. My concern is he’ll get away with these just now but he may not against better opposition.

I’m not opposed to him being signed on, however, I won’t cry if he leaves at the end of the season

Difficult one- Mackie has done well in the last few matches and his versatility is a bonus.

However, I do think we need to leave space in the squad to bring in some additional quality. We won’t have much if any room to  do that if Mackie is retained along with Yeats, Shanley, Tait and Ross.

McGlynn mentioned on the Falkirk FC podcast that they are still trying to work out deals for 2 or 3 of the current squad, I'd imagine that's Yeats, Tait and Ross.

Shanley was quoted as having the option of an extra year when we signed him so that'll most likely be taken up.

He also mentioned bringing a loan keeper in again next season to challenge Nicky for the number 1 as that'll help the budget so we may not be getting our experienced keeper.

I think the option on Shanley will be with the club. Personally I’m not sure he’s shown enough to justify a deal. I would put the money towards a striker who can challenge Maciver.

Someone mentioned before that Ross was one of Raiths highest earners so it might be a hefty wage for someone who won't start as 1st choice.  I'd like to keep him though if a deal can be done.

I agree- happy to keep him as a squad player but his end product doesn’t justify a huge wage offer for me. Especially when we already have a lot of good options in that position.

I'm all for looking after our fans, but there is not a chance the people buying these seats are back next year unless it's to win a league.

I agree with bairn88, it would not be right to give a fair percentage to Alloa if they need them.

They’re unlikely to buy a season ticket right away, but if we could even get them to come to the first game of the season, that would be a start.

Some will be day trippers but others may have stopped attending regularly for whatever reason and could be attracted back.

Alloa may bring more than that wee section (about 300?) if they need something to reach playoffs. In which case, given we get half their ground whenever we go there, I’d feel a bit poor about.

Some may argue “look after your own first” but that seems a bit ugly sistersy.

For me there’s nothing wrong with prioritising home fans in the rare event that space is limited. The vast majority of teams would do the same- I’m sure Alloa would be filling more seats at the Recs with their own supporters if they could.

Every Falkirk supporter in the ground is someone who could be attracted back along next season.

  18. Tait and Yeats would be the priorities for me. Tait has been great alongside Spencer, but could be an option further forward too. Ross would be a useful player to have in the squad, but doesn’t have the end product to justify a huge wage offer for me.

Mackie has been excellent at centre half the last few games and likewise would be useful to keep if his wage demands aren’t excessive. Shanley hasn’t had lots of game time, but hasn’t done a lot when he has played. I’d be minded to put his wages towards a striker that can challenge Maciver.

Got to disagree, Agyeman on his game is borderline unplayable but unfortunately he has a tendency to beat several opponents then trip over the ball or cross the ball out of the park.

Ross may not be as flash but is much more reliable, obviously todays miss excepted!

I would say Agyeman has contributed much more in terms of goals and assists than Ross. 8 goals and 4 assists compared to 2 goals and 5 assists.

Ross for me doesn’t contribute much in too many games whereas Agyeman is more of a handful for defenders (even if unpredictable).

I thought Agyeman was terrific when he came on and can’t understand why he hasn’t had more game time this season tbh

Agyeman was excellent. Understandably hard for him to dislodge Morrison but he is a much better option than Ross for me- more direct and more end product.

Think Nesbitt has done enough to warrant starting as the 10 next year.

No player in any position should have an automatic right to start imo. We should be looking to have the strongest starting 11 and squad as possible. If that means bringing in players who can challenge and eventually replace current starters, so be it.

Part of the reason for our success this season in my view is that we now have competition for places in a good number of positions.
