This is really saying something but apart from Mcglynn M&M probably had the best recruitment out of the managers we have had since being relegated. I’m not saying they didn’t sign some absolute donkeys but they probably don’t get enough credit from bringing Calumn Morrison to the club. They also brought in guys like Dowds and Keena, who yes maybe didn’t set the show on fire at the Falkirk stadium, but were obviously good players and have went on to have success elsewhere.

Miller and McCracken are decent people imo who had virtually no coaching (never mind managerial) experience. They were thrown in at the deep end into a position they should probably never have been in but took us a lot closer to getting out of this league than many others.

The circumstances of Covid, Holt and injuries didn’t help. Personally I don’t have any bad feelings towards them.

Both Keena and Dowds would have been much better for us if they were working under a good manager. The amount of players that have looked dreadful in a Falkirk shirt over the years highlights what a basket case of a clubs we were.

The problem was Keena didn’t look interested at all while at the club.

To be fair I think bisland was poor today, he hasn't played a lot but he struggled, ended up booked and hooked at half time, although it wasn't a great ball to him when he got booked.

Mackie had a decent game at centre half but still showed his reckless just after half time with a daft challenge and a booking near the byline.

I don't think we will see either player in the team next season.

Personally I thought Mackie played well. He also showed why McGlynn has been giving players an opportunity- players will pick up injuries and suspensions and you can’t then be throwing in replacements who have never played for 3 months.

This is the same guy who was slaughtering the re-signing of Nesbitt.

I still don’t think a 2 year extension was required in the circumstances for Nesbitt. Clearly he has done well this season but how many times have we been stuck with players on extended deals contributing very little? I’d have given him 1 year with a 1 year option.

How much is not a lot of room?

With promotion all-but over the line, McGlynn revealed that the current squad won’t look too different come the start of the next campaign, with continuity key.

“I don’t think we’ll have a lot of room for bringing in new faces, I don’t think the budget will stretch that far,” he admitted. “But we will have a lot of continuity. It is what it is. “We have an amazing dressing room, the guys all get on like a house on fire.

Clearly we don’t need a rebuild, but we will require additional quality imo given we will be facing a significantly higher level of opposition over the season.

Have to say extending Oliver is a strange one if budget is limited given he is not going to start games.

Get Hogarth, Yeats, Ross, Tait and Shanley resigned then sprinkle in some quality starters in the summer. Allan will be out the door.

I’m not sure there’s room for Shanley as well as Oliver tbh. I’d be looking to use the wages elsewhere.

I like Ross and he's been unlucky that he's been kept out by two of he best players in the league since he joined.  Difficult to perform when you aren't playing regularly unfortunately.

True he hasn’t started a huge number but he has been involved in every game this season so he has had an opportunity.

Sam Stanton signed an extension just before Christmas, and Easton has been linked to the top flight although has been out of form recently. I'd like to think Easton would be likely to re-sign for us based on where we're at just now if he's not going to the top flight - it has all the feeling that he'll wait until the end of the season before a decision.

Ethan Ross will likely be away. McGlynn signed him on one of his fabled multi year deals where the player received wage increases after every season. I've not really seen much to suggest he's even been an important figure for yourselves, and I don't think he's really what we need to move forwards.

Ross has looked decent for us but has really lacked end product. Personally I think the money would be better spent elsewhere if he’s after a big wage to sign for us.

Still too many trying to put players down despite an unbeaten season, the guys aren’t robots and will have peaks and troughs particularly with the tuesday-Saturday-Tuesday run we are on. All of the players have contributed massively to our success this season and it’s embarrassing seeing some trying to pick holes in whats been our most successful season in quite some time. Lets just enjoy the ride while it lasts :)

Not really about picking holes. The championship will be a step up and it’s perfectly reasonable to discuss where we will need better quality best season. McGlynn will be doing the same.

A lot of chat about Gary Oliver this weekend. I had a feeling he was one of our better finishers and checked out the stats this morning. He arguably has a bit more composure in front of goal than our other strikers.

His goals to shots ratio is by far the best in the team at 42%. Calvin Miller (25%) Callumn Morrison (23%), Ross McIver (18%) and Aiden Nesbitt (17%).

His goals to minutes on the pitch is a very impressive 108 minutes. Nearly a goal a game. Morrison (130 minutes), Miller (199), McIver (208), Nesbitt (279). We create a lot of chances but aren't that clinical (as McGlynn has said countless times) in front of goal.

Obviously some of these players perform different roles and assists (Miller has 10, Nesbitt 8, Spencer 6), work rate etc comes in to it but its interesting nonetheless.

We definitely need a clinical poacher, goal scorer for next season, not saying for a minute Oliver is him (he's not that type of player) but he has earned the right to be discussed as a contract extension and squad player for next season.

Edit to add: As a comparison Burrells (highest in league) stats are 37% goal conversion and 126 minutes per goal. O'Hara (highest at Hamilton) are 19% and 197 minutes per goal.

    Interesting stats- thanks for sharing.

Nesbitt’s return isn’t great considering he’s started nearly every game this season at number 10. Personally I would like another option to compete with him for that position next season. It may be worth giving Oliver a run of games there to see if he could be that player.

We have about 12 players signed for next season. The most obvious one we want to re-sign is Yeats, but I guess he has offers and there’s negotiations. We won with Cal though.  So yeah it’s about 8 more.

Yes, but that 8 could very quickly be eaten up by the current squad if we’re not careful.

If we offer contracts to Hogarth, Mackie, Yeats, Tait, Ross, Oliver and Shanley, you are down to 1 new addition to what’s currently in the building. We will need more than that to challenge at the top end imo.

Will be interesting to see what happens with the apprentices. If they weren't ready for league 1 this season I can't see them being ready for the championship next. I expect they will all go out on loan again, maybe to league 1 clubs this time to see how they get on.

Agreed- there’s no point them sitting in the stand here so I guess they’ll probably go back out on loan (hopefully to a higher level).

Ultimately we’ll sign another 8 or so players. Maybe it’s post orgasmic glow, but I wouldn’t be unhappy if Oliver was one. He scored again today

I like Oliver and think he is a good option at this level. However, imo we will need better quality next season than fringe players who have ultimately not been good enough to start in league 1.

I also would like another option at number 10, which is realistically where Oliver would be playing as I don’t see it being upfront.

We have 19 players in the squad as it stands so I don’t see us signing another 8 players if this season’s fringe players are retained.

  14. Bit of a strange game with us not at our best. In saying that, we deserved the win.

Tait looks like a good option in midfield. Shanley didn’t do much wrong but again struggled to really influence the match.

Maybe slightly harsh in some of the fringe players, but I do still think we need to move the likes of Oliver on if we have aspirations of competing at the top end of the championship. He would go with my best wishes though as he has made an important contribution.

Quite impressive and would be ideal (and relatively unique) down at TFS.

Instead it seems there will be a peripheral building for the Foundation for at least 25 years. I can't decide whether it's an opportunity missed, lack of foresight or circumstances.

It’s hardly a peripheral building- it will be an important asset for the foundation and the club imo, particularly as the academy gradually scales up.

No cost-effective or affordable way has been found to build a fourth stand in the 21 years we have been at TFS, so we certainly shouldn’t be delaying a valuable project for what remains a pipe dream.

  16. Clearly any talk of a rebuild is nonsense- we have the basis of a good side for next season. However, it will be a step up and we will require additional quality in a number of positions imo.

Long, McKay, McGinn and Lawal will be leaving. Personally I also wouldn’t be retaining Mackie, Oliver or Shanley and would look to move Allan on.

We will then need imo a GK, RB, CB, LB, CM (possibly Tait), no 10 and ST. I would consider offering Ross a deal but would want to see a lot more from him first.
