Indeed. But that inevitably leads us back to the conundrum about what do we expect to achieve in the leagues. If they want more folks to empty their wallet on a Saturday afternoon that needs a winning team, or at least a team nice to watch. For most football fans, it’s all about the Saturday.

It is but as last season proved, for me, its easy to forget where we were and get caught up in a (probably premature) title chase. Much as I liked OC, his apparent inability to turn a terrible run of results around was a concern. For now am happy to believe in MBs vision and if there was friction between them.......

Am content with the lack of rumours as prefer this being done away from the media (knowing someone else turned it down is not the ideal start for any new manager). Hopefully we can get some stability with this appointment as not sure its easy to build something if you're continually changing key staff.

Player and coach at a good level all his career. Coach and loans manager at Burnley currently and spent the past season watching youth level football around England. Good contacts like you say.

Wouldn't be against it but it's another rookie manager..

I get that there's a risk but got to be better than the employing one of the usual names who will ultimately revert to type and fail (again).

Squad update now up. No surprises with most of those gone. Kilday and Davidson the only ones you could really debate with and ultimately I’m sad to see Davidson go. Thought he had kicked on a lot this season but it was clear he was never truly favoured at any point. We tried 4 or 5 right back to replace him. He’ll do well wherever he goes. Kilday been around since the league 2 days and by far and away this season was his best. Think injuries were creeping on him at the end of the season again which may have cost him a contract

Longridge being offered another deal is….surprising if not bizarre unless there’s a coaching role involved somewhere

Noticed a few weeks back that when Longridge signed his extension last year it included an option for a further year. Not certain but assume that is sonething he initiates.

There’s only a limited few clubs who could stump up the cash to buy him, added to the fact his family have moved back down south after not settling in Scotland. He’ll not sign a long term contract elsewhere in Scotland IMO, he’ll go down to some English League 1 side.

Sounds like he'll be off either way. Clearly if we remain in the same division I will be hoping  you squander the fee.

Apparently his wife and young child moved back down to England a couple of months ago. He definitely sees his future back down in England and should be able to move to a League 1 or 2 club pretty easily.

It would have to be one of the top teams in Scotland to sway him away from that type of move imo. You’re probably also limited to what Scottish clubs could actually afford the kind of fee we would want for him. Would have to be one of the OF or an Edinburgh club most likely. Maybe Motherwell if they sell Van Veen but as I said I don’t think they’d be able to sway him from a move down South.

Fair point but his family moving south implies he doesn't see himself at Ayr whatever happens. At least you should be able to agree a decent fee.
