If said quality rb becomes available this coming Saturday morning there isn’t any budget to sign him!! There’s no budget to sign anyone apparently.

    ...

So who wouldn't you have signed or is jettisoning Nesbitt the only solution anyone's willing to present?

I've no idea, I don't know how much players earn, how do you?

We're a wee bit short in squad numbers as it stands so I'm happy enough to have Nesbitt as an option and it may just be possible that he saw the 2 year deal on lower wages as a good choice because he wanted the security. Maybe he likes working for McGlynn, maybe he feels that he has a contribution to make here based on his stats from last season, maybe he likes looking at the kelpies every day when he drives to work?

I'm going to go two-for-two here and suggest that players signing extended deals isn't the negative it's made out to be. Unhappy, disinterested players don't tend to be wanted or stick around if they're not keen regardless of money on offer.

  3. Not many of the posters who criticise McGlynn have countenanced the possibility that had we waited for said RB, of the desired quality, we might have missed out on any of the players we did sign.

We can rhyme off names and reasons why we don't have a recognised RB but taken at face value McGlynn said he chose quality over quantity.

If said quality RB only becomes available this coming Saturday morning should we have overlooked everyone else and an entire pre-season to ensure we had the budget for them!

    Just a thought.

As long as we get out of this league this season I don't see any need for a club of our size(massive) to be going to a hybrid model.

I keep reading this but getting to the Championship is not going to alleviate this problem completely. This was called out in the recent update.

Would be good if the club got back to putting out news on the youth teams a bit more like they did with the match reports previously.

    @Barr

Suspect there'll be a lot of finances and football questions so I'll go left-field -

Overall fan engagement has improved; We can see that in board updates and quality of some services (Falkirk TV, Luke McGuire content, Bairns View) but what else does he or the club think can improve?

Can he put more detail around the app Paddy Hainey has been working to launch and what benefits are intended to be for fans and club?

  6. I think Annan will be similar to Peterhead last Saturday.

They have pace to counter and their midfielder Lussint is a threat. He's good with the ball and has decent height which could cause us problems.

Stifling these breaks will be key and will require us to be much better with the ball than I've seen.

Three out the first four games away will actually suit us, a good opening start and three wins away will be the a fantastic confidence boost.
I don’t like McGlynn and after the Airdrie capitulation should have walked, however he gets a clean slate and we all should support and back him for the new league campaign.

One game at a time for me. Cove will be tough but Alloa away might be the best indicator as we'll know which results we need to better come kick-off.

If we're already in a position of playing catch-up on someone - or simply keeping pace - then that is the earliest we'll see what fight we have in this group.

Not sure what you're getting at here. Of course McGlynn shouldn't be signing players he knows aren't good enough. Far less giving them 2 year deals.

As others have pointed out, McCann is better than Mackie, there was no need to bring him in and less need to give him a 2 year deal.

    ...

    🤯

Not even sure where to start with this!

McGlynn having managed Mackie and rated him should know he wasn't better than a player he hadn't managed - at that stage - who had also spent the previous season sporadically sat on the bench under Sheerin, Rennie and Kenny Miller who all fancied a done Paul Dixon!

Can we give McGlynn credit for getting McCann the competition to step up his game perhaps.

It's never dull on here at least 😬

My season ticket arrived yesterday !!!!   Looking forward to the game on Saturday.  My brother has agreed to come with me for the first game as I haven't been out of the house for a long time it and might be a bit overwhelming.  You'll be able to recognise me as I will be the older woman as far away from the drum as possible in the KM stand :)

Will there be pay at the gate for my brother, anyone know?

I wish I lived in Falkirk it would all be so much easier but I am not that far from Tynecastle so it will be bus and train after this week for me.  COYB

There's a "Bring a Friend" initiative if you purchased a season ticket for Saturday's game so he'd be able to get a ticket for nothing.

I'd give the club a call to see if you can collect one from the club shop.

Has anyone else had difficulty in getting the complimentary ticket for the Annan game?

I've looked through the Falkirk Total Ticket site and can't see how to do it.

It's at the bottom of the available ticket types if you choose the Annan game and the KM stand.

If buying for the main stand it's presented as an option after choosing the seat.

Handing out 2 year deals to players who aren't good enough holds back our signing options every year. Did McGlynn really need to give Sean Mackie 2 years last summer? Next summer Jordan Allan will still have a year to go too.

I don't get the obsession some have with the length of deals and I don't think 2-years is excessive. I include Aidan Nesbitt in that as I don't think he's as bad as some make out.

Generally, I'd say one-year deals, in most cases, suits neither the player or club - The player wants security and the club wants to build continuity AND retain their value in the case of being able to sell them. With one year deals you reduce the players value as they can walk away or the buying club just waits it out.

Aye, but that's all a bit different from them having their 'heads in the sand'.

The main issue for me is the perceived goal of becoming "sustainable".

    Sustainable for whom?

The recurring deficit is attributed mainly to maintaining the football budget which has remained broadly similar since our relegation from the Premier league in '09 in relation to income if I have understood correctly.

Having gone through the period where we bled numerous youngsters because we were skint and the relative halcyon days of our recent cup finals and player sales I would question whether it's ever possible to become sustainable, even in the Premier League.

That our finances will still show the 400K deficit with a reduced cost base - likely subsumed by inflation lately, improved commercial income and continually strong season ticket sales and yet our outgoings still exceed our revenue.

I'll venture that on our hoped for ever upward trajectory these costs won't reduce even with the potential gains of higher league placings - which have already been confirmed as correlating to budget spend.

We are and will continue to be asked to pay a premium for a variable product which is a shaky business model.

It's an impressive total but actual figure (when you take out the free under 12s) would be interesting. That's the number we need to grow.

Do you mean in terms of the paying adults as the U12's are only "free" to the purchaser. The cost is covered by the Y.E.S. partnership for those as I understand.

You’re not living up to you name with this suggestion! Love it. Tongue in cheek or whatever it may be, it’s brilliant. I just hope you’re up for starting in the fans video reinactment! 😆

P.S I take it all back about is talking new traditions. Let’s get this started and keep it going

I'd be very impressed if the U1876 could get the hand-clap percussion going even if we don't officially play it over the PA 😆

    👏

Local hero is 40 years old too and Hot Stepper is approaching 30 years!

Think KJLK is right that it could do with some modern music but a touch of old would be nice too.

If we’re taking requests then I want the A Team soundtrack. Not sure for who or why but if there’s the opportunity to hear I that blast out just once after we score then I want to hear it just for pure randomness.

It's that Falkirk Daft duos fault but to the theme of Ghost Busters so we can chant "who ya gonna"  ... Coll Donaldson! 😉😆

Get it played pre-match and give the boy a dose of confidence as some have suggested.

I'd have thought the ultras should be the ones coming up with the songs to be played.  Club and players have more important things to concentrate on. Wee bit of initiative and ingenuity and they should be able to come up with songs linked to every outfield player.

We're not asking the players to write an essay on their favourite artist or song. Your answer is a cop-out!

It's a quick request on a Monday morning over their cornflakes in the canteen!

My main point wasn't about the songs - it's about following through on commitments and co-operation.
