The St. Mirren FC 2023/24 thread
SuperSaints1877 replied to djchapsticks's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
We certainly need to wait to see the accounts. I’m only going on what someone told me. I’d have expected to see a loss during the covid shutdown season as there were significant costs associated with covid testing and additional transportation. All clubs faced loss of income from hospitality and sponsorship. This loss (if true) was during the first full season back. Would be good to hear from someone who was in attendance last night. -

I believe that St Mirren and Celtic are bringing out a half and half scarf in the 2025/26 season to celebrate the 40th anniversary. -

The closest we got was 79/80 season. We led the league for a while but faltered with some poor results against Morton and Hibs who were relegated. The reason you don’t remember is that your team was not even in the top league. We played an important game against Aberdeen at the tail end of the season at Pittodrie which we lost 2-0 which ultimately killed our challenge. Given we are just a wee diddy team and not a massive city team like yourselves was quite an achievement. -

There is certainly a likeness but Albert Kidd’s antics that day was way funnier than anything that eejit did in his career. Who else could reduce grown men on all sides of that stadium crying? Hearts fans greeting. Dundee fans crying with laughter. -

I’ve never really understood how Burke and McBurnie have commanded such high transfer fees. Combined they have raked in well over £50M. Beggars belief how these two guys ever managed to get international honours. Still they won’t be complaining as their bank balances will be very healthy.

We’d still be incapable of stringing three passes together involving players wearing black strips! -

Aye good point but there was a poster going on very recently in this thread about that Hearts announcer who still blames 1986 on St Mirren. Living rent free in his head forever. Probably one of the funniest things ever in Scottish fitba. P&B would have melted had we had access back then. Imagine blaming St Mirren when they lost and drew with relegated Clydebank? Second last game of the season they could only beat Clydebank 1-0 at Tynecastle. Bottle totally crashed at Dens Park. -

If only P&B had existed in 1986 then Hearts would easily have won that seasons Banter award. Hearts fans of that era will always blame St Mirren for them losing the league when the fault lay clearly at their own door with awful results against Clydebank, Dundee and of course a 6-2 pumping by St Mirren at the start of the season. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1985–86_Heart_of_Midlothian_F.C._season The only people to blame for losing the league on the last day are Hearts players as they should have won the league before then. They are KIDDing themselves on with any conspiracy theories. -

I heard from someone who was at the SMiSA meeting last night that the club made a 7 figure loss last season. I won’t receive accounts until Nov/Dec this year so it might not be true. Was anyone at this meeting that can confirm this story as it was relayed to me this morning. Worrying if true given we received significant compensation for McGrath and Goodwin. -

Here is a Celtic blog interview with Billy Stark. He never says he was a Celtic fan. https://celticunderground.net/billy-stark-interview/ I was fortunate to witness all of the time Billy played for Saints and he was most certainly a target for the boo boys. Completely unwarranted I will add. We still have people at our games who are only happy when they are mumping and moaning. -

No I was suggesting a good use of water to put out the fires. Btw if you have already died in a fire then I don’t think you’d be that bothered by a bit of water in the lungs.

These are not pre season games. There is significant prize money on offer. We should not be getting beaten by Airdrie and Arbroath. It’s pitiful. -
With all these fires in London would it sense to lift the Thames Barrier?

It also helps to reduce drag. Highly fuel efficient.

Always found that very strange given Robin Williams great friendship with Billy Connolly. I think Williams just kept the line in to wind the Big Yin up.
