Was snooping a bit the other day, noticed Andy Barrowman liked a tweet from a Rovers fan that said something like “hope these rumours aren’t true, wouldn’t get in our team”. Obviously can’t look too much into that, is he more just happy that the stage you’re at, you’d turn down a decent Premiership footballer, or if it because it’s nonsense.

FWIW, I was told we were interested in taking Halliday on loan last Friday before that Transfer Scotland page started linking him with clubs.

Tbf I think it’s surprising you’re looking at him as well (if your rumours are true) I’d thought it be certain you lot will be looking for a CH or 2 and a Wing backs because of your horrendous injury record at the back

I reckon 3 in now. Stevenson, Halliday and Tiffoney or the possibility of Byrne and Ashcroft in exchange for Easton.

I can’t see Easton going in this window but I do think he’s off in the summer, I think it’ll be one of A Full back, A CM (hopefully turner from County) and winger

Is there any movement to get excited about or are we swithering on O’Reilly, let’s be honest I’ve heard Queens Park and D Utd are in the hunt for the players Rovers are looking at, we can’t compete with their spending power, it’s basically how we sell the club to players and agents. Money talks though.

Dundee United don’t need a Left footed CH they’ve got Holt and that lad Graham and I doubt both teams are looking at the exact same players we are I’ve heard a few names and I very much doubt both would be looking at that the same types we are but that’s my opinion though

I think we've officially hit our dodgy patch of the season we all expected. We've thrown away a couple of games now Ayr and Arbroath and were deservedly beaten on Saturday.

We now have key players with injuries Kev, Stanton no news on Murray yet.

The only saving grace on Saturday was Dindee United getting beat but they've already got the cheque book out this week.

This is the test of management and squad to see how we get through it.

Also dick at the end of the game on Saturday was limping a bit but not sure if it was cramp or a legit injury

Could it be that we have a choice to make as rumours recently were that we were in for Ashcroft. Maybe Potter and Murray working on the best deal for the club and if we miss out on O'Reilly we bring in Ashcroft who maybe presently is a better fit as we need a balanced back 4 and I'm not convinced we get the best out of Euan Murray or O'Reilly when one is played on the right.

Murray has played on the right for us when both Bene and Davo was here before and looked completely fine👍 I don’t agree with this stuff he can’t play on the right side when he’s done it quite a few times in his career

On the other side, every good performance he put in for us (4 goals in his time here too) gives him more room to negotiate and demand a salary, something we're perhaps not willing/able to meet.

O'Reilly knows he's probably not guaranteed to be a regular starter when everyone is fit either, unfortunately, so that is likely to weigh on his decisions too.

Tbf I think he will be a guaranteed starter when everyone is fit Watson been out for months and no indication when he’ll be back plus it’ll take him a while to get fit/ Murray has been picking up injuries here and there…. IM obviously doesn’t have trust in Corr or Masson or they’d be playing ahead of a midfielder in CH so this is best time for him I would imagine to sign an extension

Do we want Byrne? Most people will look at me as if I’ve grown two heads for asking that question, but here’s why. This year, our basic 4-2-3-1 has relied upon Byrne and Stanton, with Brown at CB. Now Brown isn’t a CB, and really isn’t strong enough in the air to be converted to one, what he is is an excellent DM or sweeper (one does wonder about RB, thou). Brown and Byrne are somewhat similar players, and don’t provide an effective bridge between the back and front, lacking the creativity and ball movement that Sam provided. Brown is signed through next season, Byrne isn’t.

If Brown isn’t in midfield and is forced to play CB which ain’t ideal then it has to be Matthews look at one of my previous posts about how Matthews is different and is the progressing the ball forward when playing said position

See I must see things completely different from others, and I guess it’s good to see others perspective.

For me, a fully fit Ross Matthews is very much an abundance of energy about the park who breaks up play and links between the defence and midfield in the holding role. Barely scores any goals, and isn’t really on the creative side - but his role is key in the team.

It’s no disrespect to Ross - I just don’t see him technically in the same mould as Sam Stanton to be able to play that role. I’ve had this debate many of times in group chats with this view.

I think similarly, when Vaughan has a dip in form, and someone maybe posts a little criticism or their views on his performance - a few are quick to jump and defend and sometimes I think it’s purely down to who it is - because both have been at the club for an extended period of time, many have a soft spot for them and sometimes I think it adds a slight tint to people’s views.

Yeah I get that but what I meant was he can do all of that what you said… what I’m getting at is he can also Travel with the ball from deep/carry the ball forward letting the attackers get more forward for options progress the ball forward and takes more risks, that’s my meaning of a ball progresser but I don’t disagree with what you said in the first part…  he is different Stanton ability and playing wise but he’s also different to Brown and Byrne and that to me what makes a good midfield

A fit Ross Matthews would be a very welcome addition to the squad. It's worth keeping in mind that his last proper run in the team came in the 21/22 season. Between last season and this current one he's played just over 100 minutes of competitive football. As much as I'd love him to come back and hit the ground running with the quality we know he had, there's no guarantee that he'll be the same player after a lengthy spell on the sidelines and he almost certainly will need time to build match fitness and sharpness.

Match fitness/Sharpness comes with game time though so even if he gets 60/70 on Saturday maybe bring on McGill if he’s not playing RB that Red Caird to Millen and the possible Euan Murray injury was the last thing we needed as we’re very short at the back either get O’Reilly deal wrapped or bring someone in before Saturday as it’s quite clear he doesn’t trust or have faith in Masson or Corr or he would’ve brought Corr on Saturday

Very much so. Byrne will take the ball in the middle and play it wherever it needs to go but he's nit going to run with it or create much.

Brown will put in the miles again winning it and making good passes. I'd say he's more mobile than Byrne but won't carry the ball 30, 40 yards like Stanton does. From memory the goals Brown has scored for us have been strikes from distance.

It's likely Brown will end up back in defence which gives us Byrne plus A n other in the middle. Options are Matthews is he ready? Or McGill who's favoured position nobody really knows.

Putting Vaughan into a deeper midfield position which has been tried and is utterly pointless it's not his game. He's top scorer in the league because he's a striker he plays on the edge of the box onwards.

If we need a partner for Byrne and brown has to play CH then Matthews has to be the one for me, a completely different option in the middle and plus McGill has never played in a MF 2 for us it’s either been full back or in the attacking positions

Brown and Byrne are very important to this team and are both quality players, but I can't help but feel like a midfield with just those two in it lacks something after watching it a couple times this season.

If we’re needing a ball Carrier when Stanton is out then Matthews is the perfect fit for that role when Spencer was here he was the Shaun Byrne get the ball then play it to the attacking players then Matthews was the progresser of the ball and it worked well

It is somewhat overlooked that we very narrowly avoided the relegation playoffs that season. 3 wins in the second half of the season springs to mind as well. Winning the cup / getting to the final probably saved him from the sack.

The season afterwards was pretty crap as well. A number of defeats at the end of the season I seem to recall. Again, a manager with less credit in the bank would've been sacked sooner.

Pundits spend half their time throwing shit about, including at managers, then play the "not enough time", "harsh sacking because of x and y" tropes with absolutely no sense of irony.

Different circumstances I know but it was the same with McGlynn after Killie home game in the 1-0 win we went on a downward spiral and getting to the cup final basically saved his job because there was rumours of him getting punted then we win the cup and let him see out his contract but the league form the 2nd half of that season was terrible

Aye, its easily forgotten we were very close to being (deservedly) knocked out by Dunfermline in the League Cup, before going through on penalties.

Then in the Scottish Cup it took a 120th minute goal from our goalkeeper to take it to penalties again.

Those wee marginal moments mean everything in cups, while we simultaneously broke goalscoring records in the league by scoring just 9 goals at home all season.

Wait hawd the bus 9 goals all season at home? If that’s the case the QP could in for one hell of ride they seem to score a lot of goals but also concede so if Davidson does ruin the top part of the pitch I can’t see how they stay up

That's the side that Murray and Dick are then, seems to clarify everything in a nutshell

The last couple Games I never understood why he played Murray left side and O’Reilly right even though Murray is both footed O’Reilly looks more comfortable on the left and Murray has played RCH for us before when Bene was here

Of the 14 conceded from balls into the box, 10 have been from the right (7 from set pieces, 3 from open play); and 4 from the left (2 from set pieces; 2 from open play).

So is it from the opposition right hand side/ our left hand side? Because it seems like a lot teams target our left side

anyone managed to do the stats on goals lost from cross balls yet ?

and if they have how many have come from our right and how many from our left ?

Not got a clue, but we must be the worst team in the country when it comes to conceding from balls into the box whether that’s from a cross/Free kick or corners apart from the last few weeks that’s all what we seem to concede from

I think a proven double cup winning SPL manager who’s still young would be a great appointment. With Paton they’ve got the firepower to be causing us issues on Saturday.

It was only their daft double sub at Hampden that meant we walked away with 3 points and not zero.

Patons suspended I think for too many yellow cards and if the rumours of Thomas leaving are true his he gonna play and possibly risk injury and scupper any move
