Happy clapping defeat draw win ok dokey then

As fans I feel we have every right to be frustrated, angry, have opinions and thoughts on the games, take the praise when it comes but also have to take criticism as well the last few home performances have been criminal lead at Ayr draw 4-4, 2-0 up against half an Arbroath side 2-2, 1-0 up against a pretty shite QP team 2-1 defeat, today Inverness wasn’t great 1-0 up then get beat 3-2 but we can’t call this sh*t out it’s unacceptable for a team going for playoffs/promotion

    I strongly disagree with that.

Liam Dick should be the first one out.

Just my opinion I thought Liam dick was utterly shite today got exposed big time I dunno if that’s confidence issue/ a system issue or simply not being good enough but that today was criminal from him infact that entire back 3 were criminal but he was by far the worst

Sorry about my attitude last night, got some horrible news and a mix of drink doesn’t help that I took that frustration out on the wrong people. The Rudden signing might be a bold/bald strategy, let’s hope the gaffer can get it right. Hopefully hear some news on Murray and Watson or a new signing in the next week.

Murray and Watson has trained all week according to the articles in the courier and I think Murray also said it in his pre match interview as well so they could both be in the squad but if one was to start I reckon it would be Euan

Vaughan was below par against Airdrie and Queens Park but I thought he was fantastic last week.  Would definitely not be benching him tomorrow.

I also thought Easton looked more effective last week than he has for the last few games.

There were definite signs there last week that the team is starting to click again in attack.  This is exactly the right point of the season to hit form and if we are indeed getting Watson and Murray back into the fold we could be in for a very enjoyable few months.

I think Easton suits that 3rd Central midfielder Role in the 352 he can drop deep to receive it, create space from nothing, has the intelligence to move around causing opposition players to follow him and creates space for our players, I think on left hand side in the 4132 he’s kind of been found out a bit imo

    I would play a 352 formation.

A back three of Watson, Brown, Murray

A midfield 3 at the moment of Byrne, Turner, Vaughan, 2 out wide Smith and Mullin as Smith as pace and Mullin can put in a decent cross with Hamilton and Rudden up front. Easton is a great player for us and is a game changer but won't track back enough. Stanton would obviously have to come back into the team probably for Turner, but could replace Vaughan.

Having said all that more likely to be a 4 1 4 1 or 4 1 3 2. I just think with 1 holding leaves gaps in midfield.

Tbf I wouldn’t play Brown at CH if anything Liam Dick would be the best option I think he looks better in a back 3 playing LCH than he does at Full back, then again Brown and Millen are Murray’s boys so I reckon it’ll still be the 4132 or what ever but if he does change and goes 3 back then my 3 would be Watson/Murray and Dick

Courier reporting Raith are going to win the race for Rudden.

They've put out an interview with McPake where he expects the market to accelerate for the Championship now. We're talking with one who's still with a parent club in England. As it's outwith Scotland we'll need it done before next Thursday. With "more to come".

With the more to come is probably talking about the premiership loans I’m sure teams from our league can still get players on loan until the end of February, unless that’s changed… we could have Rudden in by Saturday and there’s talk of a defender coming in before the end of the window then that would be our business done unless something too good to turn down appears

A lot being said on the Dunfermline thread about our finances again. I do take little notice from fans who allowed their chairman to borrow 10 mil. I will take more notice to Barrowman and Potters recent interviews where they touched on finance player deals etc.

If we are getting Rudden on loan and losing Gullan who we signed from Hibs and no doubt has had increases built into his wages then I don't think there will be a big difference in wages. It also doesn't say we will take on 100% of Ruddens wages.

Maybe the Pars should have looked to bring Gullan in, there is a good player in there.

Plus we will get some sort of fee for Gullan since he’s still under contract, and as you say likely decent wages if the wage bill and could be used to bring in better

Add in the money spent on Keatings and "he who shall not be named" and there was considerable wastage that is hard to find in our current squad

Add in the finances involved you would imagine 6 figures to pay “he who shall not be named” off because of the rumoured contract we gave him at the time

Is the deadline for loan signings from other Scottish clubs still the end of February? Seem to remember that used to be the case.

If so, we really shouldn’t be pushing the panic button on signings yet. I think we would all love to see a centre back in for Saturday but if not, we then have 3 weeks until our next league game better to take our time and get the right player in rather than rush and make a mistake. Does look like Ashcroft seems unlikely now though unless Dundee get another centre back in and a few injuries return.

I’d be happy with Rudden in to replace Gullan. I like Gullan, he seems like a really nice guy and has contributed some big moments for us but he has struggled with injuries and I’m still not sure his best position. He’s effectively 4th choice striker as if Hamilton or Vaughan were injured I am sure Murray would play Smith up front instead.

Rudden seems to have a bit more physicality than Gullan so would be a decent option. I can’t see him joining us however as he could be first choice elsewhere (the Pars for example) but I think with us he would be clear second choice behind Vaughan and Hamilton who are starting to develop a good partnership.

In my opinion we need a ch/full back like end of January rather than waiting later in the loan window, can we honestly say Watson comes back and he stays injury free? Murray same and it’s clear IM isn’t fancy Corr or Masson so what’s the other solution?

Plus if we get them in relatively quick then it’ll give them a lot more time to get upto speed rather than say Mid-late feb they sign they’ve only really got March/April to get upto speed to play and then the season is effectively done at that point, but this is just my opinion though…

Ashcroft starting tonight for a Dundee side 2 up at half time away to Hearts doesn't really square up as a player going out on loan in the next week or so....

Also in a Dundee defence that conceded 3 goals in the 2nd half so he will fit right in 👀

  11. 16 minutes ago, raith1974 said:

Both would be very good additions. With the latest speculation I can see Gullan leaving and being replaced by a proper number 9. I can also see Masson going out on loan and perhaps Corr as well if we can get Watson and Murray fit.

Ashcroft (who we’ve been linked to/rumoured to have interest in) starts again for Dundee unless they get another defender in by the end of the window I can’t see us getting him as it’s need to play basis for them just now, so we have to move on just incase but I have every faith in Murray/Barrowman and Potter has something lined up….

Movement on the transfer front, theres an in and out and shake it all about, we're also in talks for Zak Rudden...... interesting few days ahead

Need a CH/FB and let’s link us to a striker 🙄 this only makes sense if Gullan does leave and still is he any better or an upgrade on what we have?

  13. 58 minutes ago, Ex Machina said:

His best run for us came at left wing iirc. There's a player somewhere in there but it doesn't get showcased often enough, especially playing up front. Ultimately we have better options in every position he'd be played. No ill will towards him but if we can free up his wages this window, I'd definitely be letting him go.

Plus he’ll likely be on one of mcglynnflation contracts so if he’s in the higher end of the wage bill it’ll make sense to get a fee plus wages off the books to put somewhere else

Jamie Gullan eyed by Dundalk for January transfer swoop as Raith Rovers striker on shortlist - Football Scotland

Punt him.  Use his exorbitant McGlynn contract wages and the fee for something a bit of a novelty......   A STRONG FIT EXPERIENCED NO NONSENSE CENTRE HALF!

Gullan has never really been a player I have rated.  Scored a few goals etc yes, but he is usually either injured or playing as a striker at the corner flag.

I agree I’d let him go, never stays fit, this is probably the longest he’s ever stayed fit tbh, he never starts only made 1 start this season and that was against Arbroath when Hamilton took ill…. He’s been here for a few years and no one knows where his best position is🤷‍♂️ I think cash in and use the money else where imo

Another great interview from RTV, with Potter this time, very infectious enthusiasm and a good insight into what they're all trying to achieve

It’s good that we’re actually got/getting a better structure in place in the footballing side, in his interview he has a lot of things to do but also helping the Ian and Mickey with training… also the other thing that’s  good is he gives a bit of insight how loans in the pro game work etc how he’s using the community club for next potential rovers players… it is very good indeed

  16. You lot have a very talented player in Tait, for some reason it’s not worked out for him since he left and most of his loan spells every fanbase seemed to be happy to see the back of him…. But if there’s one person that will get the best of him it’s McGlynn

I'm beginning to think Watson is totally fecked, and Stanton is out for a lot longer than Murray's letting on, I hope I'm wrong and they'll both be back soon, also what's the problem with Mathews again

Tbf wouldn’t be surprised if Stanton is out for the rest of the season remember Watson was only a few weeks turned out to be months

I'm sorry but appart from the first 20 minutes we never looked like scoring. Smith with a free header in the Bix decides for what ever reason to try a cushioned header to Vaughan instead of heading for goal himself was baffling.

And Vaughan being clean through on goal and try’s to cut it back to Connolly normal he would hit that

  19. 2 minutes ago, TxRover said:

Three at the back, with wingbacks then means we're sitting people that have been starting (not inherently bad, given our recent form)...but lets play a game:

    Big Kev

    Corr/Watson/Murray

    Mullin/Turner/Brown/Byrne/Connolly

    Vaughan/Hamilton

    IDK, we'd miss Millen's crosses...and Dick's defending...and Easton's slashing...and Smith's sweeping in from wide...and...

Any 3 ATB with wingbacks compromises either wide defending (last thing we need) or attacking creativity (also bad).

That’s a good side Mullin could cross ball just as good if not better than Millen, Eastons been pish for weeks, Dick is that.. good defensively shite going forward/ smith is more of a Second striker in my opinion… but the problem here is Murray has too many players that play in the same position, Midfield so he’s shoehorning players in to fit basically I would like to see a 3 but 4 is his go to with the full backs as what fits but the same problems still happen (cross balls into the box with no one stopping them)

  20. 3 minutes ago, TxRover said:

But who do we play then? It apparent the answer today was Millen/Masson/Corr/Dick as Murray wasn't healthy enough for more that a short spell, and obviously wasn't used late because we were chasing the match. However, I suggest those four and people have blooming strokes about Masson not being good enough

I’m personally not saying Masson isn’t good enough I think he can be if trained/converted into a proper full back or midfielder imo I think he’s too short to be a CB at this level and it would’ve made sense but it’s quite clear to see Murray doesn’t rate him or he would’ve had a lot more game time when we were at barebones at the back but instead plays a winger and MF as part of a 4

  21. 1 minute ago, pub car king said:

The only thing I can think of with Corr is that Murray wants him playing next to an actual CB. It could be that he still needs guided through games and Scott Brown can't do that.

How many times he could’ve put him in next to Murray when he was fit though and he hasn’t and still kept brown there

  22. 1 minute ago, Raith69 said:

Agree with you he was unlucky in the summer with injuries. He was really good last week then gets dropped for today just stupid, just like finishing the game last week with 2 at the back.

I would play him alongside a commanding cb, that hopefully we can bring in and hopefully we can maybe bring in cover at full back.

See as i previously mentioned I think we look better with a 3 atb so him, Watson if fit and Murray as a 3 could work or if rumours of Ashcroft coming in are true maybe him Ashcroft and Murray? But then the problem with the 3 at the back is we don’t have the wing backs for it imo but either way I don’t see Corr getting much game for the rest of the season which is a sad thing to see as I think there’s real potential in the lad to be good CH

  23. 12 minutes ago, Raith69 said:

Cannot comment on today's game as I couldn't be there but what I can say is it was really nieve to go into the game with 3 at the back and not 1 of them being a centre back, imo that is just suicidal given that our current form has been poor and we cannot defend cross balls.

IM gives me the impression that he thinks that the midfield and attack players will outweigh the frailties we have at the back.

We had 3 cb's on the bench, ok Murray was likely not fit but why was Corr dropped? And ok he doesn't rate Masson but hell  that is their natural position.

They need to find a way to stop the rot or this blip will go on and on, we need an old fashioned cb or 2, a leader as neither Murray or Watson will not last the remainder of the season without injury let's be honest.

Corrs the strange one he was bigged up all summer he was watched what 12/13 times when he was playing for Celtic B? We signed him thinking maybe he can be starter… unlucky with injuries but since he’s came back he barely kicked a ball, how does he feel sitting on the bench seeing a midfielder and 2 full backs starting ahead of him in his natural position, in my opinion I don’t think Murray rates him if that’s the case send him out on loan and bring someone else in

The same midfield and forwards that have bailed out the defence time and time again this season?

I think we’ve kept a grand total of 7 clean sheets in all league and cup games this season.   We’re pretty much going into games knowing that we need to score at least 2 goals to even have a chance of getting something out of a game.  That’s not really sustainable in any shape or form.

Still even scoring 2 goals I don’t trust this defence to keep a clean sheet, I’ve always been in the side of caution this season about winning the league or promotion for the single fact is we concede for too many goals, are we in it aye totally but I don’t see us winning it or promotion unless we get a CH and a Fb in to try change something
