We've been chopping and changing shape and personnel so much that you could argue folk are playing while fairly leggy when in a more settled, or less injury ravaged squad, you could cycle guys out a bit more naturally. Murray was arguably slow to change and predictable when he did so. Yet, we did have plenty of the ball in that final spell but lacked the quality for once to do something with it.

That’s why you’ve good a squad? He needs to trust it, he signed Corr/McGill gave Masson a new deal so why not use them rather than having to play a winger and Midfielder at the back a leggy winger ie Easton for Gullan or smith it’s clear he doesn’t have faith or trust in some of the players

Here's my fear...to be absolutely honest, and this sounds insane, but Brown is the odd man out of Stanton, Byrne, Turner and Brown. You play Byrne and Stanton as the DM's, with Turner in the middle of the mids/wingers. That leaves Brown playing RB or CB or sitting. I'm just afraid that IM is too much committed to Brown as one of "his guys", and will shoehorn him in at CB instead of playing Corr and Murray.

Yes, Brown is the Captain...yes, Brown was crucial earlier on this season...yes, he's a hard as nails defensive type...BUT, we need proper CB's at CB and I can't pick Brown over Byrne, Stanton or Turner (if today was a fair example of what he brings, that is) when they are healthy.

It seems Matthews and Watson are effective done, I don't know what else to make of todays lineup. When healthy, I would like to see a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 instead of IM's beloved 4-1-3-2/4-2-3-1, with:

    Millen/Corr/Murray/Dick

    Byrne/Turner/Stanton

    Connolly (or Smith)/Hamilton/Vaughan (or Easton)

    or

    Millen/Corr/Murray/Dick

    Turner/Byrne/Stanton/Easton (or Connolly)

    Smith (or Vaughan)/Hamilton

See id like to see Corr getting more of a chance what has he done wrong today? Or in previous games? Aye hes young and inexperienced but playing games and getting a run you become more experienced and he’s a natural CH…. If Murray doesn’t Trust Corr/McGill/Masson/ Gullan etc to start then simply get rid 3 of those are getting development blocked because he’s too loyal to some that’s not been upto scratch since tannadice away

  3. Is Murray becoming a McGlynn 2.0? Too loyal to players who aren’t performing well, shoehorning players here there and everywhere, too stubborn to change formations from the 4132/4231 and when he gets found out there’s no really a plan B he just chucks everyone on that he can…. He also waits until it’s too late to make changes as well which is a frustrating thing he’s too reactive than proactive

im asking this is because we’ve been found out and nullified either we should change it on the pitch or go into the market and change something

Let’s try to build a defence around him. Corr was different class. Sorry if my posts have been gowpin’ I’m a bad loser, always have been😢

If Watson isn’t fit then Corr is first choice CH imo alongside Murray, how must he been feeling for weeks seeing a midfielder start ahead of them, never put a foot wrong today if start him against Livi

Players really need a kick up the backside, they just stroll about the park, whilst our opposition pick up on this and show more guts than us.

IM needs a reality check too, just thinks all he needs to do is take off a defender and stick on a attacker, absolutely clueless. Hats off to Queens they took their opportunity's.

Tbf in recent games we just fanny about on the ball too much when there’s better options then get caught and we either concede or give away stuff that leads to the goal, look at Easton for their corner Fannying about with the ball rather than clearing it wants a free kick then they play on and get corner then we don’t defend it and they score, it’s just so frustrating because it’s simple stuff that gets over complicated

  6. I’m intrigued to see what team Murray puts out for today, does he put Corr in at CH and play Brown RB, Brown CH and maybe McGill/Masson or Matthews RB but knowing Murray he’ll rock up with a 361 to just throw everyone off…. Ideally I think he wants to go back to the 4132 but if he doesn’t trust anyone at RB then the 3 back could be a possibility

  7. 4 hours ago, TxRover said:

No. Play a defender there, Masson. He’s played RB successfully for us before, it’s not ideal, but …If you insist on a midfielder at RB the answer is not Matthews, it’s Mullin or Brown.

Brown has to play CH…. It’s clear Murray has no Faith in Masson or he would’ve gotten more game time👍 Mullin is better forward so the only real other option is Matthews imo

Yeah, maybe just me but I don't think I'll take my Rovers transfer news from a twitter account dedicated to Dundee United.

Just seen that a bit bizarre that he would make Easton to county up as some rumours have it that Easton has supposedly has an offer from Dundee again that’s just a rumour, but I think his situation will be clearer in the summer depending where we are

When there’s 16 games to go and we’re one win (against a depleted Pars) in 4 and a downturn in performance, VAR and changing pitches is an irrelevance at this stage.

Getting another body or two would be great and bouncing back with a convincing win tomorrow is all we need. As clichéd as it is it really is one game at a time.

Fantastic news on Byrne, was crucial we retained him.

On Easton that speculation won’t go away but I’d actually drop him to the bench tomorrow..it worked last time Murray made him ride pine for a couple of games and imo his form last couple merits a little change and for me that’s starting with Connolly.

See in my 11 I would Start Mullin on the left and Connolly right…. Also this maybe a wild shout but with Ross Millen being suspended and I don’t have faith in Mullin or McGill at RB what about Ross Matthews? played their before a few times and I’d feel a lot more comfortable with him there than the previous 2 mentioned as I think Murray will move back to the 4132 with Turner in the Stanton role

I see Connor smith has returned to hearts from his loan from a Scunthorpe. Would take back in a heartbeat. Can play multiple positions in the attacking third

Could be utter nonsense but I was told he wanted to come back to queens in the summer but beuker said no to it

Dinny be surprised if the next few days if you see him linked with us because of his brother Callum… but I won’t see it happening though maybe he ends up at a Falkirk or Cove perhaps in league 1 or he may well could end up in lower half championship

To be fair mate Luke McBeth was at Glenafton who are sitting 10th in their division and I suspect will be on a very low wage, Stewart was a free agent and with oreilly it was a case of I think that we we’re offering 18 months while you guys only offered 6 months.
We offloaded McDonald and sent McGinley and Williamson.  So their wages would go towards the new guys.

For all we are being linked with other players could just be paper talk.  Like yourselves our crowds are significantly up which will at least help a bit with finance

Plus add in Dundee United 4 times guaranteed both teams and we’ve played Dunfermline in 5 times (gonna be 6 guaranteed) so that’s a derby with big crowds so there’s extra money in the coffers but it’s not like we’re throwing unsustainable amounts, I’m guessing with the bumper crowds and with Dundee United and Pars in the division makes up for it

Not only has the thug Duncan Ferguson been found out at ICT and sent of at least once in his short time back in Scotland he is now calling for a ban on plastic pitches in the Championship.

To be fair I'll be surprised if he is still at ICT next season. Can't wait on him coming to Starks Park

Only a few weeks away 👍 should bring big jock in that day as guest

This is exactly it. If we’d sorted out at least one defender to come in for the opening of the window, I don’t think we’d have lost to Queens Park. The run of form we’re now on has seen us drop from well clear in 4th (think it was about 5 points), down to 6th and only 6(?) points above bottom. If that doesn’t have the manager/board desperate to get more players in, we have a real problem.

We’re also now dealing with the consequences of forcing players to play 90 minutes when they’ve got a niggle/tightness. Also had players returning and being asked to get straight back into playing 90 minutes every week, just to get another muscular injury. But, due to the size of our squad, we have no other options.

Some of it has been bad luck, I’m not denying that. But some of it seems to be due to the lack of squad depth, forcing players to do too much too soon and ending up out mid/long term again.

It’s annoying. If we’d actually brought in depth in defence in the summer - when everyone could see we needed it, we could focus on our poor attack/goalscoring return. But I just don’t think we can address that this window, as we need to focus on sorting out the defensive options.

The most criminal thing McPake done was for you was throwing Benedictus right back in to the line up in a derby game, it was only gonna go one way for him aye he might say I’m fine to play but it’s the manager should’ve saw it as naw your important sit this one out.

same with us with Big Kev gets injured against Dundee United and before n during the Ayr match and kept playing him I think managers have to do what’s right for the players that crucial to a team if you know what I mean.

Absolutely. Having seen all of the other teams now I'm pretty sure if we'd had a "normal" season injury wise we'd be looking at 4th comfortably. I have a bit of a soft spot for this Airdrie side and McCabe and they have a great chance on Saturday to pull away from 5th and below, but at the end of the day they aren't much improved from the side we finished miles ahead last season.

Tbf you are a decent side after seeing playing 5 times this season apart from the pumping in the Scottish cup all games have been tight, but the only difference is you lot are toothless in attack.

Wighton I don’t rate at all see nothing what he does, Jakubiak is quick and causes problems, nae end product, McCann is a good player, still young and will improve he’s a real talent, O’Halloran looks done and Todd is still young…

Defensively you’re sound when everyone is fit midfield without Hamilton and that Otoo, Chalmers is awful imo, Allan I don’t know too much about, Summers and Moffat look good but are more of AMs, Mehmet liability imo should try get an upgrade on him but generally you do have a decent squad.

Yeah might well be the case he has decided to opt for Raith mate and you are just waiting to announce it.  You will definitely be getting a very good defender.

Given Dunfermlines need for a CB as well then I would be surprised if they weren’t in for OReilly earlier this week as well

Maybe the O’Reilly signing was a Neilson replacement? If he does go back to hearts both play Left side (I think) so maybe you’d be looking at someone else to play that side?

When Potter was here, he was very popular with the players. His spell as manager was obviously really poor, but the players all absolutely loved him and I do believe they all genuinely wanted to do well for him.

When he left for Sunderland, I know the players were all really sad to see him go. I honestly have a lot of time for Potter. He did a lot for the club and even played through injury during admin times, to try and talk the kids through the games. In other games, he was named as a sub and would stand behind the goals (where players warm up), organising the young defenders.

Rovers players that Potter was involved with at Dunfermline would include: Ross Millen, Shaun Byrne, Callum Smith. Not sure if Aidan Connolly maybe played for a very brief spell while Potter was still a coach as well. Andy Barrowman was also one of Potter’s first signings as manager. Lee Ashcroft would be another one that worked with Potter at Dunfermline when he signs. I’d imagine Gullan, Dabrowski and Stanton possibly worked with him at Hibs too?

Well Dabrowski was at Hibs for 8 years before the summer and I think Gullan was as there at the same time, Stanton was there over 10 year ago when Murray was still playing….

but going back to potter I think he’s a good DOF with his talent ID and structuring football operations and I’ve also heard he’s a very good coach and players are always wanting learn off him even my wee cousin is part of the community foundation and potter sometimes takes sessions and gives the young ones advice and so they the fundamentals…. where’s as I don’t think he’s got the tactical stuff to be a manager

Weird one, before Ashcroft left I couldn't have cared less. Was glad to see the back of him and that kinda era of player at the club. He went to Dundee and really kicked on but has now found himself out of things again. Now, I'm seeing him and some sort of Messiah! For me, I want a Bene type. If he's going to be out until March then I want someone experienced in the defence. If we can't get Ashcroft then that's okay, but I'd rather him than an untested player at the moment. Still, anyone would be good about now.

I think the Bene type is rare in this window unless you find some gem from down south that’s similar the CB market is a very tough one we got 2 good CBs in Murray and Watson at the right time but apart from that your struggling really
