I think that given the start we made that analysis is a bit downbeat.

We took eight points from the first eight games of the season, after exiting the cup in the group stages with defeats to seaside league stalwarts Clyde and Falkirk (on penalties). We eventually went on a good run after getting pumped off Partick, but last season could just as easily have been defined by the bad streaks we had.

Maybe I am just being pessimistic. I don't think we're a weak team, but I also don't think we'll be challenging at the pointy end next season and that's absolutely fine.

If we had beaten Dundee (3-3) and Arbroath (1-1) we would have won the league. Shows how strong this squad is and I would say we've kept our best players.

A strong squad would have taken more than two points off Arbroath last season. We did well given the low budget we started with, but we did little more than stay in the mix as the teams around us conspired to shoot themselves in the foot.

I'm less optimistic about next season, but would be happy to finish middle of the table whilst others throw money they don't have for a playoff push.

I don't think we have at all.  Times have changed quite dramatically and we are fortunate to be able to look forward rather than back. Aye, it's all reliant on an individual to get us to a situation where we might eventually be able to generate enough income to be self sufficient, but it's a great opportunity that loads of clubs would love to have.

In fairness to QP, they've taken advantage of the backing and might end up with something to show for it. Whilst grateful for what Douglas Rae did for Morton, his firm grasp on the reigns left us with little to show for what was, at times, disproportionate backing. At least under community ownership we're beginning to make the right kind of moves on and off the pitch.

Also remember that Morton have nothing to play for so won’t exactly be busting a gut to win at Cove.

Morton can still make the playoffs and even if they don't, can still have a top half finish. If results don't go our way, though, I wouldn't underestimate the satisfaction of relegating Hartley as a motivator to close the season with a win.
