  1. Just got in to catch the back end of the Anderson/Beaton match which Anderson has just won 5-2.

Solid effort from Anderson. Didn't think his scoring was as good as normal (96 avg) but his doubling seems to have improved.

  2. Ted Hankey 5-4 Wayne Mardle

Great stuff. Always liked the Count and I've always thought Mardle was a muppet so good result all round. Mardle needs to concentrate more on hitting treble 20's than doing silly dances and trying to wind up his opponent.

  3. 5-0 whitewash for Taylor over Dobromyslova.

Can someone remind exactly what the point of the Russian bird is ? Does she ever win games ? Does she take part in the players champs each week ?

  4. Olly Croft didn't get one thing wrong with what he has said about the PDC.

Thought his remark about Taylor ripping the opposition to shreads most weeks was pish. He may indeed but that's because he's the best player to every throw a dart. Is Mr Croft seriously suggesting that somehow Taylor is bad for darts ? What a chump.

  5. I'd quite like to read his book actually, as I obviously don't understand what it is that's caused these problems.

From what I've heard the book doesn't clear things up to any great degree. From reading around the web it seems to be some form of stress he feels when away from home. Not so much homesick as feeling he isn't at home looking after the wife and bairns. Think he was on tour when his father was ill and he felt guilty about it. Strange one as his wife and family offered to come with him to India but he went on his own. Very strange but it is what it is.

  6. Hendry is a legend. He was snooker in the 90's and it was brilliant watching him spanking the rest of the world at Snooker. He's a million miles away from that level these days and the rest of his career will be 1st/2nd round exits sprinkled with the odd quarter final. His best chance for success will be in the longer World Champ format but even then he'll still lose. Some ways it's sad to see him become a mere mortal but that's sport I suppose.

  7. Gary Anderson threw that match away there

To be fair a format where you start and end with doubles sounds like Ando's worst nightmare

Is Gary getting better at his doubles ? Seems to be a great scorer but lets himself down with the finishing. Hopefully, he'll continue to get better on TV and be a threat at the World Champs.

  8. Chris Eaton should be our second singles player imo. He's the only one who's shown that he can play under the pressure of the Davis cup and rise to big occasions. I don't know why he's so low in the rankings, there must be a problem there

After much extensive research I can reveal the answer...he's complete pish. Can barely win a match even at futures level and outwith the serve his game is utterly woeful. We need to stop going on about Chris Eaton and realise that the likes of Dan Evans and Josh Godawful are actually much better players, hard as that may be to believe.

  9. Without Murray, is Team GB going to go right through the bottom of the 2nd division as well?

Can we actually fall any lower ? Who the heck is below Euro-Africa Zone II ?

As it happens the draw has just been made and our next match is away to Lithuania. The top ranked bloke on their side is around 450. The BBC states that we have 6 players (not including Murray) ranked above their top man. That said away from home it wouldn't surprise me if their No 1 won both games and they also won the doubles as seems to always be the case. If Murray plays we probably win 3-2 as our No 2 might just beat their No 2. However, I can't see Andy making the trek to Lithuania.

  10. Excuse me if I don't read the previous 486 pages of this thread but I have just one simple question. Are Livingston still full-time ? If so how the heck can they afford it on 3rd Division crowds ? Wouldn't they be better going part-time as they could still easily win the 3rd Division with the right players. Just seems crazy that after all the money issues they would continue to justify a full-time set up.

  11. Murray started off the same last year and got a pumping - thats the difference

To be fair to Murray, Federer played a million times better against him than he did against Potty. Every Fed shot last year was creaming the lines and he barely duffed a shot. Also bear in mind that Fed last year had played 2 days before the final and was well rested, whereas Murray played on back to back days. Last night the GOAT was under 45% first serving, choked the second set, double faulted more times than in living memory and was shanking balls all over the place. No matter how well Potty played Fed would almost certainly have won with an average "day at the office" level of serving. Potty is a beast but let's not rubbish Murray too quickly.

  12. Word of caution for Potty. When Nole won the Aus Open he was soon annointed as the main challenger to the GOAT and is now seen as a disappointment. Reading some reaction around the web this morning you get the impression that Potty now dominates mens tennis. The GOAT is not motivated, Rafa is stuck in a cycle of self induced injury, Murray is a pat-a-cake merchant who chokes at Slams, Nole is the new Davydenko (ie gets deep in tournaments and wins nothing) and the rest are window dressing. I think Potty can and probably will win more slams but as things stand he's had a good 14 days. Let's see how he handles the pressure and expectation of being favourite for the Aus Open.

  13. Would be quite good to see Potty win it. His forehand shot is a fucking babe.

Potty is a beast, no doubt. However, Nadal is right up his street and makes him look even better than he is. Rafa's basic shot just isn't effective against Potty as by the time the ball gets into his hitting zone the spin is a lot less and it's target practice. Think Nadal may struggle to ever beat Potty on hard courts unless he brings his absolute 'A' game to the table. Same could be said for other players but the likes of Fed, Murray and Joko have more options to combat Potty's arsenal.

  14. I realise that but perhaps a rolling 24 month period would iron out the anomalies.

Nah. 2 years is far too long to be giving people credit for something. The ranking list is simply a measure of who has won more points in the last year. It's not saying Murray is better then Nadal or Roddick is better than Del Potro. All it's saying is that in the last 12 months player A has won more points than player B. As such they have earned the right to a higher seeding. If Nadal is better than Murray then he'll beat him so what does it matter where he's seeded.

  15. Increment contracts: Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Andrew Flintoff, Adil Rashid, Owais Shah, Jonathan Trott, Luke Wright.

Is there a more overrated pie chucker ever to get contracted by England. Wright is an extremely average cricketer who is nowhere near good enough to be classified as an all rounder. Seems to have become a fixture in the England One day team thanks to a couple of slogs for Sussex many moons ago. As long as county plodders like him get in the team England will continue to struggle. Another thing about Wright, watch him bowl and due to the way he drags his back foot he's about 3 yards down the pitch when he let's the ball go. Wouldn't surprise me if umps started no balling the bloke.

As a White Rose fan I'm glad to see Bresnan and Rashid in the team. That said Bres is nowhere near as good as some people seem to think he is. A couple of years ago he looked the real deal with wickets and runs. Nowadays he doesn't score as many runs and is partial to being smacked around the park with too many four balls. Rashid is the real deal though and I expect him to star in Sud Afrique.

  16. Edit - His first service percentages over the last few months, have been laughable.

Cilic served at 31% first serves in the second set and won it with a double break. In the same set Murray served at 81% first serves. His serve wasn't the reason he lost last night. I agree his serve can be extremely erratic but last night was more about poor weight of shot, poor length, poor returns and giving up mentally. Hopefully, he will use the sting from the defeat to move his game on before it's too late.

  17. Think that match could be a defining moment in Murray's career. He cannot play that way again or he'll never win a slam. As Monster said last years semi-final against Nadal was the way Murray needs to play. He can be aggressive but on too many occasions is passive to the point of stagnation.

Still have to believe something was up with Murray. No drop shots, no backhand winners, no forehand winners, no lobs, no pushing Cilic around. Was it pressure ? Was it injury ? Interested to hear what Murray has to say.
