There’s an odd snobbery amongst the “big teams” of Scottish football when it comes to signing players. The fact shankland never kicked on to a much bigger challenge after Ayr is testament to that. He was incredible at Ayr.

I think bullen does what I do 8-9 weeks into a season of Football Manager. Just remorselessly click the top right button until the next transfer window/next opportunity to have a big team bust up, with no notice of day to day events or club management.

That’s one of the bigger kicks in the nads this season; The high wage bill. Just a lot cash spent on a quantity of absolute duds, where spending on 3-4 known quality players would’ve done. The wastage and how it plays out on the park is galling.

A guy who has had a pretty chronic managerial record recently, but with a bit of intensity about him can get a reaction out of a moribund team. Which I think Yogi might be able to do for us. Bullens going nowhere. As much as I’d like it to be otherwise. And if he were to go there’s really nobody out there who whets the appetite that I can think of. Even if there was would they look at Ayr as a prospect for advancing their career? Beyond the fanbase most other people see ayr as a club eternally in the doldrums with no imminent likelihood of success. I think Bullen thinks this too. In his mind we’re lucky to have him cos who the f**k else would come here.

This might be the cans talking, but I’d take Yogi. Could be the totally batshit left field appointment that’ll get us out the funk we’re in. Kinda akin to the effect Duncan Ferguson is having now. Although I don’t know whether I think thats because I reckon he’d be good or whether it just reflects the dearth of decent managers out there who would see Ayr as a worthwhile venture.

Don’t know if he played with Hurst. Signed at the same time as Grady, which was a huge symbol of intent at the time.
