    Parochial thinking.

To hell with going with another domestic manager who has the ingrained mindset & subliminal messaging of Scottish football in their psyche.

Absolutely 100%. The SFA Largs Mafia mindset has held our game back too long imho.

Plus some of these foreign coaches are complete loonballs. We need more of them in our game. 😂

Jim Bowen. He would regularly perform with a Jazz Band in the bars and on one evening when the ship was delayed due to a medical emergency he offered to do a show in the Grand Lounge to keep the passengers entertained.

    Smashing great super story!

It's not a daft rumour. I know the coach of the team his son plays for. Goodwin isn't exactly quiet about his dislike for the city. He likes the club. Just not the city.

I really don’t buy into any of that.

Goodwin always wore his heart on his sleeves when he played and often had the blood of opponents on his sleeve, but he is such a good decent guy off the field.

Someone is clearly stirring shit here.

No way would Jim Goodwin would run down the city of the club he is employed by. No chance.

Why is that always the go to question

I’m just genuinely interested in who you think could turn the fortunes around. Sorry. I’m not having a go.

I just don’t see any candidates up and coming in our domestic leagues to make progress with arguably Scotlands third biggest club.

The easy option would be Robinson from St Mirren. A bigger “risk” would be Martindale. I think he has done an incredible job with Livingston.

Aside from them who else could you realistically go after?

I think the thing about Robertson is thats he is as good as he can be. He's absolutely maximised his potential. He's not the greatest left back in the history of the league, that's just ridiculous. But he's up there with the best. And its testament to how great a professional he is.

It really is a testament to his dedication and professionalism to turnaround an early rejection by Celtic to have the career he has. Incredible work ethic.

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.

There is no doubt there would have been more naturally talented players when he was at Celtic but he has had a career that they can only dream about.

Couldn’t get in the 1st team with Kenny, Terry McDermott and David Johnston, and prob left at the right time, about a month before they signed Ian rush.

This thread is about the biggest drop off. Considering he signed for the reigning European champions for a very large fee and never even played a first team game merits a place.

I would personally say that McGarvey was a far better natural goal scorer than McDermott, Johnston and Fairclough.

The pull of Celtic was too great. Such a shame given that club’s eventual treatment of him when he was forced out.

Who is to say how his game would have developed playing in the first team at Liverpool.

I am 100% convinced that Bob Paisley would have given him a chance.

Frank had run ins with Fergie when a young player at St Mirren.

Both Fergie and Paisley could spot talent. Frank’s problems were self inflicted sadly.

Perhaps my view is tainted as I saw him from a young age. But IMHO he was arguably the greatest natural finisher St Mirren that I ever saw especially during his first spell.

He was never really challenged at Celtic as he would have been had he stayed at Liverpool.

In my opinion a great talent who never fulfilled his early potential.

It’ll just be a reference to the number of managers they burn through.

Jeezo. St Mirren went through a period of having a revolving managerial door for many many seasons.

Trust me you have great stability up there, but Goodwin is not the answer for your club. Talks a good game to get his jobs in football but seriously lacking in getting results on the pitch despite financial backing.

    Time to cut lose.

  8. I personally think Charlie Nicolas chose the wrong club when he left Celtic for Arsenals but I don’t honestly believe he merits a mention in this particular thread.

If someone mentions Charlie Nic then we could say that Frank McGarvey’s decision to depart Liverpool must be one of the craziest decisions ever made by a Scottish player.

He would have won untold trophies at Liverpool but he was homesick and only wanted to play for his beloved Celtic.

Made his Scotland debut against Argentina in ‘79 as a Liverpool reserve player.

Could have been a Liverpool and Scotland legend.

    Such a great player.

  9. Why do Aberdeen supporters keep bringing Watford into discussions?

Is it because the last time Watford were relevant in English football under Taylor was the last time Aberdeen were relevant under Fergie?

Despite the money invested by Aberdeen down the years since Fergie departed the club has seriously underachieved imho.

People say McInnes was a good manager but what did he actually deliver? One major honour? This was during a period when Deidco were not in the top league for a few seasons.

I don’t know what Aberdeen saw in Goodwin but he is definitely out of his depth. Smooth Irish talker but seems incapable of changing his ultra defensive style of play.

I honestly can’t see him surviving much longer if these results continue.

Rangers have confirmed the knee injury that was rumoured Davis had suffered and he is out for the season. A sad end to his career with us and I’d imagine he will retire. What a player.

Our injury record this season has been ridiculous.

There was always a huge risk keeping on a player at his age. Great player no doubt in his prime but really should have been released before now by such a big club.

My club were rumoured to have wanted to sign him but I’m glad it never happened.

Terrific player. Model professional but age catches up with you in this line of work.

Boris Johnson, with his entourage in tow, once appeared from nowhere around a corner, and barrelled into me at a hundred miles an hour on a concourse at an NFL game at Wembley. Back in the day when he was Mayor of London, and had made a pre-match speech along the lines of ‘London is open for business’ yadda, yadda. Chunt literally nearly knocked me off my feet. Did he mumble ‘sorry’ or anything before charging off again? Nope. He made noises. Sounded like ‘hurrumph ya, ya, pfffttt, harrr, hummm humm ehh’ - before him and his lackies, at a great rate of knots, charged off again. Doesn’t really qualify as having an in-depth meeting or conversation with the mop-haired w****r, but there you go.

Nah I saw McAllister a few times and he was too slow for the top flight a bit like Kenny Deuchar but perfect for the lower leagues, scoring for fun.

I remember Chic Charnley was flying at Hibs during the first part of 1997/98 , supporters called for his inclusion in the Scotland side and then his form dropped off massively and so did Hibs right into relegation to the 1st.

Chic Charnley had superb natural talent but was a complete waster.

Sacked by St Mirren after spitting on an opponent at Somerset Park IIRC.

  13. Every club has its share of idiots.

All we can do is deal with situations as they present themselves on the terraces or online.

If only our governing bodies would take a zero tolerance approach to the biggest problem that face Scottish football which is religious bigotry we could look to tackle other issues with the same approach.

However the SFA, the SPFL and the two clubs concerned actually use religious intolerance to sell the “oldest football derby” in the world.

It sickens me that UEFA can fine both these clubs for behaviour involving their fans in Europe yet the SFA and the SPFL just ignore the issue at a domestic level as it brings money into the game.

    It is fucking corrupt.

Maxwell and Doncaster are afraid to tackle the issue as they know they will be targeted by the scum that follow follow/hail hail these clubs.

It's been a pretty good restart for the Barclays and three interesting ties still to come.

    My hot takes.

    Arsenal look legitimate title challengers.

Liverpool should make the top four.

Spurs probably looking at fifth place.

    Brighton top 8.

Newcastle will keep pushing Arsenal and City and look set for a top 4 place.

Leicester should keep their noses out of the bottom three but need to freshen up a few slots in the squad over January.

    West Ham midrange 10-12th finish.

Fulham and Brentford to stay clear of any rekegation fears.

Southampton look like they could struggle. .

It will be interesting to see how active Newcastle and Arsenal are in January.

Outside the big sides the rest of the teams are very poor in comparison .
