A lot of talk about just getting shot of a number of players… surely if David “I don’t have the budget” Martindale, you know, doesn’t have the budget to sign players then there isn’t the budget to pay players up until the end of the season?

It looks like he’s all getting a bit desperate now the way he’s turned on the group that he’s built. When managers do that there doesn’t tend to be any comeback, albeit many don’t have the situation that he has at Livingston.

That's the problem, none of them want to go and take a drop in wages. Bitsindou and Bahamboula are refusing to budge from being told last season we don't want them, Goncalves had his contract paid up to punt him too. Catch 22 for others, on current form they aren't likely to attract any interest, so how do we shift them, and they'll be in the same position when their contract runs out. Only carrot he has is telling them they're playing for a new contract, but from his post match interview they don't want to be here, and there's no stick he can use, because they're out of contract at the end of the season and happy taking a wage running it down.

Penrice is the only player consistently showing good form that would attract any interest from a Premiership club, St Kelly and Bradley have enough potential to attract another Premiership club, Holt might get a bottom 6 Prem club to take him, or a decent Championship club, he's still good enough for this level, doubt Pitts would leave us even if another Prem club wanted him, he's already knocked back Aberdeen when he was at his peak, he's happy staying at Livi, Anderson is rumoured to be going to Killie on a PCA, Montano prob could find a club at this level, not sure any of the rest of our players will find clubs either at this level or a similar wage, let alone bigger one. So can't see us being able to shift any of the players he wants rid of in January, other than the ones still holding value, and that would weaken us..

Does anybody think that should we be givin any money for the aforementioned players leaving that Davie would be given anything financially to bolster the squad.Seriously?.Any money gained would go into the black hole weve created and will continue to do so,end off.

Still frees up a wage to bring in players. Also think the fact it'll be a bigger black hole dropping down a division, so wouldn't bet against us gambling spending the sale of any player to bring in some more players if we can't shift a few on, trying to stay up.

I am in no way trying to bring previous discussions of owner's back up but surely John Mcilvogue should be having absolutely no say in anything happening given his takeover has been blocked.

Agreed. I am very surprised Martindale is using His name in public when there are live court proceedings putting at least a temporary block on it happening

This is a bit of a misnomer. Clubs will look at budgets as a whole over a season. Yes, you might free up a weekly wage to sign another player, however paying up a released player’s contract (either in full or to a mutual settlement) will still take a chunk out of “the budget”. So the weekly wage available will actually be lower and not like-for-like.

Always found this thinking a bit disingenuous, also. The players are well within their rights to honour their contracts despite what the fans think. Surely the fans should be looking at who gave these players the deals?

He was talking about if we got money for a player (Anderson), not us having to pay off a players contract.

Yeah the players are legally under their contract entitled to see it out, however when they've been told up front to look for another club because they wont be featuring in our team, and decide to not bother and get paid sitting on their arses, the fans are quite right to think they're wage thieves. A player should want to be playing, can't be good for their mental health sitting around doing nothing all season either, different if it's after the season gets started and they've been messed around, but they were given notice up front and had time to look for another club.

Heard from a friend who was a shirt sponsor for Ayr Utd. we'd offered to cover 50% of the wages to shift a coupla players in the January window a few seasons back although in the end the deals never happened.

No idea if that's the going rate.

Apparently a 'big sell on' and a clause that gives them some money if we stay up. So sounds like a free with some stipulations.
