Henrik's tongue
I've already told what i think will happen and thats all i can do. For what it's worth i don;t think we cheated and i have little faith in the SPL's choice of impartial lawyers, so as i said previuosly appeal then go through the courts. And after all that fails? Yes, we cheated. <-------- (aye right).
WhiteRoseKillie
The whole Whyte things been done to death and is still under a criminal investigation i believe, so lets wait and see what the Police come up with before we bandy words about already being found guilty. For a whole year, rangers did not pay PAYE, NIC or VAT. They have admitted this. The administrators also allowed a figure of 94 million to be used in the insolvency calculator - why are the fans not protesting about this? Surely they don't owe that much if they haven't been found guilty? At least the legal profession will see through that fabrication. There's no way they'd grant a liquidation on those flimsy grounds, would they?
thelegendthatis
I see a lot of posters being upset when the Rangers punishment is finally agreed , it will be lenient , of that I'm sure . All the chat of criminal charges etc , it just won't happen #bookmark Try reading the original report for the SFA http://www.scribd.com/doc/93212354/SFA-Rangers-Note-of-Reasons It is very clear about how the directors abdicated their responsibilities. Sitting with your hands over your ears with your eyes shut is not a valid defence for not carrying out your legal obligations as a director. With Whyte not present, or indeed represented it would have been easy to pin everything on him. But they didn't. Ask John Greig for his opinion. If you can find him. Suspect he is permanently sitting on the loo just now.
Captain_Sensible
I'm not sure, what I am sure of is that jiggery pokery of the highest order has been around Rangers for a long time...the people who suffered most were Rangers fans, er, no, the people who suffered the most were fans of non Old Firm clubs

bennett
"As I've said before, my upbringing led me to have an anti-rangers stance entrenched before I realised early on that celtic were as bad, leading to equal disdain for both sides. " And, were I to listen to you and the other Orcs on here, i would be influenced to treat others as inferior. Do read again, Bennett, and pay particular attention to the word "led" and the context it is used in. Perhaps it would have made more sense if I had inserted the word "early" before "upbringing". Let me explain. Not many of my parents' generation (wwII service age in both cases) were enlightened atheists or agnostics. Fortunately, being born (youngest of five) in the 60's, by the time I hit my teens I was already questioning a lot of stuff about society in general, and my older siblings were further down the "rebellion" path than me. One thing I'll say for my parents, when I asked sensible questions, they would talk about this stuff, and listen as well. I stopped attending mass at the age of 11, with the consent of both my parents. No pressure. Now I've got: Mother: regular churchgoer. Two sisters: Both regular churchgoers. One also gay, which I find a bit hypocritical, but there you go. Not by my standards, but by the church's, BTW. One brother: Non-churchgoer, married to a very devout Italian lady. Father and One sister RIP. Still, takes all sorts, eh? Sounds like a Killie version of the Boswells (thats a joke meant in a lighthearted way). I know what you mean, times move on and things change. I've never really saw bigotry as that much of an issue with myself, family or friends though like most people in the WOS i never really knew that many catholics or celtic fans until i started work (the opposite being true for Catholics/Celtic fans i suppose) and got to know more people. People are people no matter who they support or what they believe in some are ok/decent and others are aresholes. Thats life, always has been and always will be. A mans a man for aw that.

LordHawHaw
er, no, the people who suffered the most were fans of non Old Firm clubs They don't have a club capt..I'd rather watch Celtic in the juniors than see them die and a tribute act run by spivs and chancers tickle the bellies of their huge support to make a quick buck

For what it's worth i don;t think we cheated and i have little faith in the SPL's choice of impartial lawyers, so as i said previuosly appeal then go through the courts. Allow me to catch you while you're actually on topic, and by all means correct me if I'm wrong. HMRC have already assessed rangers as owing millions of pounds of tax, and this figure was arrived at by the First Tier Tribunal. It is this decision that is currently under appeal. To draw a parallel, most convicted criminals, on receiving a long sentence, will launch an appeal, either against conviction, length of sentence, or both. While those appeals are in process, they remain guilty in the eyes of the law, and will, if appropriate, remain in prison throughout the appeals process. If we look at these two situations, then it is clear to me, at least, that rangers are, at the moment, guilty pending appeal. We'll just have to wait until the results of the appeal which has already been underway for months to reach a final conclusion. In the red corner: The people that make the rules. In the blue corner: A poor hard-done-by football club that only followed advice from a financial wizard/porn star, and followed it incorrectly to boot. This, by the way, has nothing to do with the moral aspects of their cheating in the SPL and in Europe. It is to do with them cheating and stealing from the Crown, i.e. all of us.

Anyway as to your point, HMRC say we owe them such and such amount, Rangers say no we don't as we used a perfectly legal loophole. Now we wait on the tax tribunal to get a move on. As a non Celtic fan i'm not an expert on tax law so i'll leave the ins and outs to others to discuss.

Never saw the inside of a dole office in Scotland, ya cheeky cont! And thanks for what is almost an acknowledgment of what you have had such a problem with.... Just because I'm not one of these, does't make me one of them. As for the WoS, those of my friends down here who come from the area are united with me in referring to the area as Belfast Lite. Maybe it takes time away, and experience of a different milieu, to see the problem more clearly.

The tax tribunal has delivered a decision, I believe, and it's the result of the appeal we're awaiting. The submission in the liquidation petition of 94 million is pretty telling, though, surely? And why would celtic fans be experts in tax law? Just stop the petty squabble. It's over, there's three divisions between you. move on.
thenolly
Official Statement from Ibrox The Board of The Rangers Football Club has issued the following statement today: It reads: "The Board wishes to express its dismay over articles in The Times newspaper today which implies the Club is "in fresh trouble" with HM Revenue and Customs in relation to an investor in the Club. How many times has your board said that things were untrue, in the bag etc and turned out to be the other way. No smoke without fire as they say, I think this has a long way still to run

WhiteRoseKillie
The tribunal has yet to publish it's verdict. As for Celtic fans being tax experts, that was a bit tongue in cheek but still justified imo. So how can there be an appeal? HMRC, who make the rules, said "we want this much". Oldco said "no, we reckon we've stayed within the rules", and are appealing. It's a different procedure to criminal or civil actions. As for the celtic bit - you're bringing them up for no fucking reason again! Most of the more informed posters on this thread have had affiliation to neither side of the arse, and we both know it. Eternal pointscoring and whataboutery does nothing but weaken your arguments.

Most Celtic fans and websites do consider themselve experts in all things tax related. I've already explained, HMRC say we owe a certain amount - Rangers dispute this amount and it goes to a tribunal.
