Big Rangers Administration/Liquidation Thread - All chat here!

In 1996, former Celtic Boys Club player Alan Brazil revealed he had been sexually abused by the club manager, Jim Torbett.

1. The allegations were heard at the Glasgow Sheriff Court, where Torbett was found guilty of shameless and indecent conduct with three juvenile players between October 1967 and March 1974.

2. Torbett was given a prison sentence of 30 months. (He should have been hanged IMO)

3. Rangers fans have since alleged that Celtic manager Jock Stein attempted to cover up the scandal, by chanting "Big Jock Knew" while Alan Brazil stated unequivocally in 2009 that Stein was not involved

If I take anyones word as to what happened .,.. I'd listen to the victim himself ..

So you can take a flying fck as far a your attempts to sully Big Jock .. however what happened was a complete disgrace. However I'm sure Bennett would agree it's neither a smear on the club or homosexuals in general is that not correct Bennett?

Evidence was given in court that Stein kicked Torbett out. Any charge against Stein would be that he did not go to the police.

Torbett was later allowed back into Celtic Boys Club.

I have no time for the taunts on this subject.

Former president of Celtic Boys Club Hugh Birt gave evidence under oath that Stein kicked Torbett out.

One of the victims, John McCluskey, has also stated that Stein kicked Torbett out. We've had Alan Brazil's view above, so we can also have what McCluskey said.

You seem an expert on the subject. I knew about Birts evidence, I also know Torbett swore Stein wasn't involved.

Have you a link to McCluskey's statement?

Hadn't heard of McCluskey's evidence. Interesting. So basically what you are trying to say is that although the court found otherwise you will continue to say that Jock knew?

I have tried every google variation I can think of and I can only find rangers blogs. Convenient that.

McCluskey said:

"There was always talk around Celtic about Torbett and boys, but nothing seemed to be done until Jock Stein found out.

"He kicked Torbett out, but it was still kept quiet.

"All the directors and lots of others knew why Torbett got the boot, but it was swept under the carpet."

Apologise for what? Stating what has been public knowledge in the City of Glasgow since the late 60s and which was supported in open court by the former president of the boys club, Mr. Hugh Birt. I may have said it in an outburst, which was I suppose was wrong of me, but the fact remains about your club. Maybe you should take that in and show some criticism about the behaviour of certain officials of your club at this time. A very shameful episode for your club at that time.

DhenBhoy's reply which had this quote above it....

At the risk of being accused of point scoring - do any of the Rangers boys know how big Jock conducted himself during the aftermath of the Ibrox disaster? I do, and you should be raging that his name is being sullied by morons within your support despite his actions on that day and the days and weeks following. You should be fucking ashamed actually.

Stein kicked Torbett out as soon as he found out about the abuse correct.

It would be down to the victims and their families as to whether they wanted to go to the police or not .. I don't think it is entirely black and white here. Also Jock Stein has had no chance to defend himself against the allegations.

Torbett's return has nothing to do with Jock and happened after his death.

Stein kicked him out prior to 1985 and Torbett returns in 1986.

Torbett should never have been allowed to return, however only persons at the club during 1986 are to blame .. not JS.

I'm not saying it's black and white. It's arguable that Stein should have taken the matter to the police himself which might well have prevented Torbett's return. However, others at Celtic were more directly responsible for Torbett coming back.

It would seem that the P & Ds have fallen into a cunning trap and instead of discussing the clusterfück that is Rangers International, we are discussing child abuse. the orc's favourite subject.

OK; seeing as all the experts are here: is it true? that Torbett initally worked at Ibrox, and after allegations of impropriety with the boys there, it was hushed up and off he went to work at celtic with a clean reference. If this is true, then both sisters should be ashamed, but possibly more so Rangers. If this is not true, then please stop discussing child abuse.

When are the accounts due?

Any new gangsters on the board?

Etc...

Please, you P&Ds. Point and laugh at Rangers International and stop discussing the orc's obsession: ie: child abuse.

Again there's no Evidence Stein knew anything , even Alan Brazil said there's no way he knew anything, as I've said already there were never any allegations made about torbet whiles he was at the boys club , just roumors about his sexuality .

This idea that he was a known paedo and allegations were ignored its complete rangers fantasay, none of these allegations were ever proven in court , only the thing proven was that he was a child abuser, everything else about it is pathetic rangers fans .

If you read McCluskys story he told tommy burns (who was there at that time) he told him to tell Fergus straight away who instantly reported it to the police.

Doesn't sound like a club desperate to cover up child abuse does it.

It seems some rangers fans are interested in sick point scoring ,but as mention previously when it comes to the rumours about Chalmers chilly abuse at Ibrox it's instantly dismissed as sick rumour.

But there is evidence. There's what Hugh Birt said. There's what John McCluskey said.

As for the wider picture, Lou Macari said when Torbett came to trial, "At last this is out in the open after years of gossip".

Fergus McCann came in later on. Credit to him for the action he took then.
