He's never said he doesn't want to play for Scotland at all.
Lex
Why not just go on loan to the Championship or a West Brom like club like Lukaku did? The next Freddy Adu IMO. I've always suspected the reason he excelled at youth level was because he was older than he claimed to be, he's now getting found out at senior level.

He's just been a bit of a wally like most teens with money in their pocket and an ego are.

Gordopolis
What a balls-up! His statement (probably written by his agent) is at least polite and eloquent: https://sports.yahoo.com/news/islam-feruz-returns-russia-173323282.html Should never have entertained the idea of going to Russia in the first place. Championship seems like an obvious choice. Edited August 31, 2014 by Gordopolis

dorlomin
I'd imagine spending time in a provincial Russian City is slightly different from living it up around West London. One is full of rich Russians the other full of poor Russians.
RandomGuy.
He's a player who's already falling behind his peers, and needed a decent standard of regular football. Totally bizarre decision which will just hamper him even more, would be surprised if he's there longer than a couple of months before joyfully requesting an end to the loan so he continue fannying about in the youth squads and accepting his relatively large wages. Pathetic attitude that he'll regret in five years when he's severely underdeveloped Hate to say I told you so, but.... Don't imagine he'll go out on loan anywhere, as he doesn't seem to actually want to. No surprise he's made the decision the day before the window shuts, and the loan window doesn't open for another month, and the longest you can be loaned out for in that window is three months.
Miguel Sanchez
Talk about being exiled. Russia's FNL is a brutal league - shite crowds, shite stadia, now playing through winter due to Russian structural change, and a lot of really long journeys (3 Siberian opponents and then another 3 even further afield - Vladivostok and Sakhalin are basically in Japan). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014–15_Russian_National_Football_League Check that map. The further east team has a strange third kit (ed- which isn't embedding, sadly, but it's quite a striking design) Edited August 31, 2014 by stpatty

Frankie S
Never witnessed so much hostility/acrimony aimed towards one young, admittedly immature player before. Seems like a lot of people want to see him fail. He's far from the only egocentric footballer who has an inflated sense of his own worth. Hope he settles down, gets his head screwed on, works hard, fulfils his undoubted potential and surprises everyone by becoming an asset to the Scottish national team in the future (let's face it, the chances of him electing for Somalia are slim and the rumours that he has turned his back on Scotland are just that.... rumours). I don't think it's hostility, but frustration. Always a shame to see someone with talent totally waste it,
