DAFC
Excellent thread this and enjoyed the writeups by Colin. Despite being into dance music for years and having an extensive collection I've never been one for buying LP's. I always found that LP's were for people who liked dance music in the same way they like other forms of music. For me it's not usually a format for sitting down and listening to an LP as a concept. Possibly only a few artists like Goldie have tried to produce an LP this way. One I would recommend that isn't on the list is EX:EL by 808 State. http://www.discogs.com/808-State-exel/master/27737

Colin M
I'll put up the full list of albums nominated at some point, they are on my laptop at home. Sure it will spark a few good debates etc.
dundeebarry
I'll put up the full list of albums nominated at some point, they are on my laptop at home. Sure it will spark a few good debates etc. Different contributors' definition of "electronic" remains an interesting point. Blue Lines and Screamedelica, both of which featured in the individual lists above, are two of my favourite albums but I wouldn't class them as electronica. There are elements of it within both, but they lean a little too much on the "organic" (for want of a better word) side of sound for me. On the Massive Attack front I had Mezzanine in my list and left out Blue Lines. Having listened to them both in the lead up to submitting my list I adjudged Mezzanine to fall on the side of electronic and Blue Lines not to. No idea if there's any real weight of logic behind that decision, but it seemed about right in my head. I was tempted to add the Contino Sessions by Death In Vegas but it just fell short for the same reasons Blue Lines did.
groaninjock
On the Massive Attack front I had Mezzanine in my list and left out Blue Lines. I did exactly the same. Have never considered Blue Lines to be electronic, but everything about Mezzanine is cold, harsh and has that claustrophobic electronic vibe to it.

Lordofthewing
The write-ups in this thread are fucking brilliant, by the way. Looking at the top 30, I think I had about 5 or 6 of the albums listed, but only had a proper listen of 2 or 3 (Angles, SAW and Fat of the Land, mainly, I haven't listened to Leftism anywhere near enough, same goes for Mezzanine). Through this thread, I've ordered at least 5 or 6 albums (I've already bought Timeless and Surfing on Sine Waves, just ordered Moon Safari, Homework, Homogenic and Jilted), and managed to find a few pretty shit-hot tracks on top of that. Wish I'd chucked in a top 10 myself, but I wasn't too sure about what would qualify, and I'd probably have made an arse of it.

dundeebarry
Happy New Year fellow elecktroids! Thinking of doing a hip-hop version of this - do we think we'd get enough voters? Happy new year, Colin. I'm nowhere near well-versed enough in hip-hop to participate. I'd like to read the hip-hop version of this thread though!
Mambostaggie
Same, I went through a brief stage in my late teens but nowhere near enough to have a half decent list.
