the snudge
Quite liking the A-Z thing with the players. It's good getting to know them a wee bit better. The free ticket idea is brilliant, it's how I got interested when I was in Primary School.

That would suggest they'd be coming along any paying full price without the incentive. The key here will be enticing young folk who would otherwise not attend, but generate an interest that last a life time (like the rest of us suckers!).

We've got a decent group of young Sons who will now get in for free. I think it's great and its the right thing to do but to me it doesn't really square with the notion we're struggling to make ends meet.

I don't think that finance is a dominant consideration in this laudable initiative. There is however very likely a direct link with the recent survey on the club website; the club has correctly recognised that the age demographic of our core support has been steadily rising over a number of years and we really need to redress this. I'd encourage everyone to participate in the club survey and to also encourage as many folk as possible to get a youngster involved. If for every 10 who turn up, 3/4 become regular Sons fans that would be a a result. Absolute fair play to the DFC Board on this one.
FifeSons
Great initiative to get the young fans in. Best way to keep them? A return to the all-out attack brand of football from 2012-2014.
Jan Vojáček
Those of you who regularly pick up Dumbarton and the Vale's best selling paper might've noticed that I've been pulling together a few Dream Teams with ex players. Well this week it's Paddy Flannery's turn. Normally players give me a line or two and that's it. Paddy sent me 1400 words, with stats, a manager and all-sorts. It's cut down a wee bit, but I reckon you lot will find it quite interesting. Please go out and a buy a copy to help pay my wages for another week.

Howlin' Wilf
I was sad to hear of the passing of the captain of our 71-72 Championship winning side, Jack Bolton. A big centre half of the old school. He was 79.

A big centre half of the old school. He was 79. Very sad news. Remember thinking that when he signed from Raith Rovers for £5,000 back in 1970, the Club were serious about ending our 50 odd years of languishing in the lower reaches of the then SFL. Went on the play a pivotal role in the 1971-72 Championship winning side, particularly as I recall in the last four crucial games of the season, when nerves were starting to affect some of the younger players.

Or a central defensive partnership of 1) Cushley and Bolton 2) Ruddy and Bolton or 3) Cushley and Ruddy Read that and thank goodness this was in the days before 3 or 5 at the back. Can you imagine the three of them in the one side? *shudder*

Cushley, Bolton and Ruddy only shared the field once, when Denis came on as a sub for Davie Wilson at Somerset in December 1972.
