Sons' sorrow

I’m also in the sponsor ruining the home kit camp. I’d say it’s the poorest of the recent ones, but it’s not bad by any means. The anniversary kit is the one we should have every year IMO. The away is decent enough.

Looks like Newbury won’t be back next season.

Difficult to judge any loan signings as they don’t generally happen to Aug- close to end of transfer window

What was said about him?

As others have said keeping Gray and Ruth is absolutely tremendous stuff. Not fully convinced by Cammy Clark but it’s a decent enough defensive option and I’m wondering if Young maybe wont be properly fit for the season starting?

I’m a big fan of that home kit, not huge on the sponsor getting in the way of the band but it looks lovely. The away kit is a grade A honker but who really cares about that!

On Newbury, Faz said that an enquiry was made to Hamilton and John Rankin's answer was 'no'.

I thought the meeting was really good with a decent turnout and the stats presentation was very interesting.

As someone that couldn’t attend what was this statistics presentation? Was it about underlying statistics of the season just gone, or something else?

I didn't think we'd have Orsi, Gray and Ruth all signed up but it's great that we have and all done fairly early.

Cammy Clark has always been someone I've probably held a bias against after nearly taking Lynas' head off on the opening day last season. But seems to have calmed down a bit since then and appears to be a very decent signing. Miller seems to offer a bit of versatility as well.

Would have loved Newbury back but if it's not going to happen then hopefully he gets a chance back at Hamilton.

It was basically 'league tables' of the relative playing budgets of this season's League 2 and next season's League One, and whilst they wouldn't be exactly to the nearest pound they had a very accurate look to them.

As we don't have a sugar daddy or a number of investors Dumbarton is at the bottom end, but the point Faz was making was that the dressing room ethic and the club culture can still be a powerful selling point to players, and that probably was a big factor in the retention of Ruth, Gray and Orsi and the return of Matty Shiels.

It was also pointed out that over the last two league seasons (72 games) we were never out of the top four.

Didnt actually realise Orsi has signed up too.Thats good business. Not entirely convinced or excited about VCammy or mikey miller but then again i know very little about either of them.I would imagine Miller is a back up player having been down with Broomhill.Lets hope for some good strikers and midfielders to complete a decent squad.

The budgets would surprise me if we were so far down given our recent cup exploits bringing in some extra cash although perhaps cup tie money is not factored in.

As for the strips I actually really like the away top while the home one is spoiled by the sponsor and the unnecessary tartan fringe IMHO.But each to his own. Will deffo get the away top.

Roll on July...first time ive been excited about Sons for a good few seasons. Also the GIRUY to most of the Clyde fans on here makes it all the sweeter.

Michael Miller has left Stenhousemuir to reunite with Stephen Swift at Broomhill.

I'm sorry to see Miller moving on. I like him and I think he has something to offer this team but his face doesn't seem to fit anymore. He was terrific when Gary Naysmith took charge of the club In January and was playing with a real fire in his belly, but his performances badly tailed off to the extent he was no longer part of the starting XI. He began to look a little plodding towards the end and playing alongside Nat Wedderburn in the middle of the park made us look and feel slow and clunky. A change of scenery might do him good, although I'm surprised he's dropped into the Lowland League; he's certainly capable of doing a good job in League 2 (and maybe even League 1).

Good luck to him!

Really surprised and gutted by this, he's way above LL level. No idea why he's went to Broomhill either.

A good player who gave a lot of reassurance, composure and balance to the team. Losing Miller's versatility could be a potential headache for Naysmith.

Regarding the new left back, I think Callum Yeats is without a club? I would gladly have him back in maroon.

I like Miller but he really went off the boil in the last quarter of the season and was in and out of the team.

He would have been on decent money so this was a no brainer if we can use that money to strengthen the squad in more pressing areas. His versatility could be a miss but he was clearly not going to start the season for us in the starting line up particularly if James Berry is close to being the player we are expecting. The midfield of Nat and Miller is ultimately not going to lead to success at this level as has been proven over two seasons now.

I believe he's been made available from early in the summer but surprised he has ended up going to Broomhill - he's certainly better than that bunch of charlatans.

Good luck to him anyway he always gave his best for the Warriors.

Miller is a really good footballer. First season he was consistently 7 out of 10, but for whatever reason he went off the boil last season and didn’t seem the same player. He could obviously play again at a higher level but for whatever reason he has decided to take this path.

I dug these up from 12 months ago in the Stenny thread.

I couldn't believe that Mikey Miller is only 29. It seems like a lifetime ago that he was last with us.

He's someone I always wanted us to bring back. But I didn't expect it to happen now after he dropped down to the Lowland League last season. I've no idea if that might've had an impact on his sharpness, but there's no doubting he was a very good player at this sort of level. A bit of a case of what might've been after he missed two years or so of his career with injury when he was young.

He's obviously right sided naturally, but I'm looking at him as our versatile Blair Malcolm replacement. And I think he's technically a better player. Albeit without Malcolm's energy at flying around the pitch.

Cammy Clark is a funny one. He struggled against Orsi and I remember his flying elbow on Lynas really well. But he was also the best left-back in League Two 12 months ago and played regularly for a League One side who were fairly respectable defensively last season.

Spoke to him for the paper today and I thoroughly enjoyed his company. I hope he can do us a turn. He's a good age, has plenty of experience and has always impressed me physically. Another naturally left sided player is never a bad thing either. We maybe lacked a wee bit of balance in that regard last season.

Obviously art is subjective & there's no right answer ... and forgive the rudimentary quick Photoshopping

I don't believe moving the sponsor below the band is effective. Putting it in the band and putting in white is the most hidden within the design. We've also had sponsors that moved down into the belly area before (Bet Butler on the Surridge top) that I think looks horrendous.

I think the band should have been bigger to make the JJR sponsor look in proportion, don't like the stripe down the sides either, if your going to have tartan trim on the band & cuffs it should maybe be on the collar too.

It's different & quirky but maybe Macron's poorest effort for us so far.

*will probably still buy it* 🤐

I’m just glad the away kit is the right colours. It’s been too long since we had a black and gold kit and I don’t think the design is all that bad.

Agreed. I can’t even remember the last time we had a black and gold(ish) away kit. Far better than two random colours out of a catalogue
