Sons' sorrow

If the streaming system is in place then then the Dunfermline game has to be a target. Can imagine we'd get a couple of hundred football starved Dunfermline supporters at least willing to pay the tenner or whatever it costs.

Just a bit worried that we haven't heard anything more about streams.

For example we play Kilmarnock away in our last League cup game. By that time we may already be confirmed as bottom of the group. So is it worth paying £1500 to play a game that is meaningless. On a similar note does anyone know why premier teams still have to test when other football can be played without testing?

Given that the tournament allows progression based on "best 2nd place records" where goal difference could be vital it will degenerate into an absolute farce if teams don't bother their backsides to play some games. If they don't want to play they shouldn't play at all. When they all entered they were under the belief that testing would be required.

i thought the minimum prize money was 20k? If so it makes no sense to not cough up 3k for testing.

Is anyone shocked that Barry Ferguson has absolutely no fucking idea what he's slavering about?

This. I'm absolutely astonished that anyone would seriously consider a pick'n mix approach to fixtures, and I'd be astounded if clubs ducking games could expect a level of payout which will be based on full participation.

Aye, I’d be astounded if you were handed full prize and didn’t receive some sort of punishment for forfeiting a game. No self respecting club will do so anyway so we’ve nothing to worry about. Barry is just slavering absolute pish, which is rich considering the budget those chumps have.

There is a report in today's Herald that the SPFL have given clubs in Division 1 and 2 a week to tell them if they can fulfill their fixtures this season.  I suspect that simple-sounding request may be a whole lot more complicated to answer with any sort of certainty.

Its a  stupid question in as much we won't know what the situation will be next month never mind next may.Virutally all clubs in Scotland bar a small few will be at risk if fans are not allowed in.Common sense has to prevail and limited numbers should be allowed in.So what happens if clubs say they cant fulfill the fixtures?Do they get relegated?Stay where they are?Its far from clear and as usual the SPFL are looking for the easy option by passing the buck instead of getting some change out of the govt about the fans.

Elgin vs ICT friendly today behind closed doors while next door a fairground was in full flow with presumably crowds of people. These are the sort of things they should be shouving down the govts throat. The SPFL should be pushing for L1 and L2 clubs to get at least 25%  capacity which is probably all they need to survive.

Is it not a case of asking the clubs how long they could survive in the very real scenario that they go a full season without paying fans this season?

We'll be lucky to see season ticket holders in the ground by March, and if its only them allowed in, then thats a massive drain on the club which increases your losses.

If clubs don't think they can survive the entire season on PPV then an alternative needs found before the season starts.

It depends on how well fans embrace paid streams and whether or not clubs can replace ancillary income from matchday food and drink, programme sales and things like 50/50 draws. Paid streams is an alien concept within football and the lower leagues have a lot of older fans who may not embrace the idea of sitting at home watching a Dumbarton game on their computer (if they have and use one). Price is gong to be key too. In my experience of paid hockey streams, theres a price point that fans seem to feel is right and anything above that becomes an issue. In UK hockey it was about £10 a game and when Sheffield started charging more there was a lot of anger. Is £10 a game going to be enough for lower league football? Should it be similar to gate prices? Would fans pay £15 to watch a stream at home? I think there's a hell of a lot of work to be done between now and the projected start of the lower league season. We need to see teams trialling the streaming platform and finding out how much fans are willing to pay. Also need to look at alternatives to the ancillary matchday revenue as that could be a factor in whether or not the money keeps clubs afloat or not.

The club will have to make money from streaming. It’s all very well calling for a limited number of fans to be allowed in but that would actually cost the club money. It is likely only season ticket holders who would get in and they have already paid. But the club would then incur costs which they wouldn’t incur if there were no fans So making money out of streaming is vital

Could the club feasibly open up the bar within the social distance restrictions and stream the games live in home and away? Table service, track and trace etc etc and charge per head?

If we are not allowed in the ground for a home game we aren’t going to get in to the bar. And we won’t be able to stream away games as that will be down to the home club

Which highlights how absurd the current restrictions are.

You can get people in a pub so long as you have table service and enforce track and trace. Those same people can't sit distanced in a football stand and watch a game of football. We'd be as well sacking Jason Leitch and replacing him with somebody from the pub industry. Clearly public health decisions are not being made on the basis of public health but rather on the basis of the financial needs of the hospitality industry.
