Zetterlund
The annual 'legalise it' event in Glasgow on the 20th April will be in George Square this time round. FB event here. It's going to be full of absolute p***ks but I might go along for a bit and see. I expect there will be some tasty snack bars to cater for this event.

Smurph
I expect there will be some tasty snack bars to cater for this event. Pinto is right beside George Square. I'm going to eat so many burritos. I take it rakes of folk will be sparking up? Do the police take a blind eye to this event? It's policed but whether or not they'll allow it remains unclear. Normally during the summer, you can drink and smoke in Kelvingrove Park, and you won't get into any bother as long as you're not causing it. This might be a bit different because it's an organised event of sorts but I don't know.
YassinMoutaouakil
I don't think I do. But you can't just look at the behaviour of 18-24 year olds and extrapolate it to fit the general population. Even among young people, I doubt if the overwhelming majority (or even the majority) are into regular drug use. There's a lot of young blokes play fitba and other sports for a start. No way are they out getting coked up, speeding or weeding or whatever terminology you want to use. Illegal drugs are an underground activity. Let's keep them there. Besides, didn't they try and legalise hash in Brixton, only for heroin dealers to flood the area. A similar situation can be observed along the Dutch-German border. Ebeneezer, would you say that Es' are good? Edited March 4, 2015 by YassinMoutaouakil

That event sounds as if it's going to be full of wannabe martyrs to the cause, Socialist Workers' Party egotists and Howard Marks fans.
The Moonster
My pals went to one of these rallies in the past and the police did turn a blind eye to folk smoking, they actually said a lot of the policemen/women agreed it should be legal Or at the very least decriminalised. Whether that will be the case here I don't know.
git-intae-thum
Personally I would decriminalise and leave it up to the individual. However to say weed is harmless is wishful thinking in the extreme. As someone who has regular cause to visit psychiatric wards I can say that they are full of folk who smoked weed on a regular basis. Surely they could not all have had underlying mental health issues.
NotThePars
It's relatively harmless visibly in comparison to alcohol is probably what folk mean when they said. No one doubts smoking a f**k ton of weed regularly will damage your mental health.

Whether that will be the case here I don't know. Stoned people cannot get into fights and cause trouble. It's impossible to summon up the energy. The police, in general, would rather deal with smokers than drinkers.
sixx
The problem with the 4/20 rally (in this country anyway) is that the only people that really go to it are neds/ degenerates who don't really know what they're talking about. Doesn't really help the cause or do much for the general publics oppinon on the subject. But the real problem is the mass amount of misinforamation that has been forced upon us from the authorities for decades, police doing school visits on drug awareness, tv campaigns, ridiculous re-scheduling of it etc etc. Too much stigma attached to cannabis in this country, the benefits of it far outweigh the negatives, at least compared alcohol/tobacco. Legalise it, tax it, make money, save money from policing it and going through the courts. Puff Puff Pass.

And totally agree Mrs M, I think if we had real pressure on the government from police this would move things along a bit quicker. FuzzyAffro
One day people will look back on current laws like we do on prohibition in the U.S. in the 1920's.
sixx
The so called 'war on drugs' hasn't worked, won't work, and can't work. The only way to stop criminals profiting of it, and to help people from overdosing or taking a tainted batch, is legalize it, control it, and properly educate people about them. No more scare mongering from the upper class stiff upper lipped politicions, it's time to take a sensible, 21st approach to the subject.
FuzzyAffro
The drug war could never work. As long as there is money to be made selling drugs people will sell them. And as long as drugs get you fucked up people will take them. Never ending cycle.
Smurph
CISTA got 8420 votes overall (couldn't make the last three digits up) in the general election. Didn't expect them to get as many as that. Never got a seat but that's still a pretty good score. 1.5% of people in Londonderry voted for them, which was more than who voted Conservative. Hopefully it's raised awareness to the issue, which was more the point that having a successful campaign, but they've done reasonably well. 213 people in my constituency voted for them, which was 0.5% of the vote, beating the Communist Party of GB. Did anyone vote for them?
