Hedgecutter
A riot that was to be the beginning of the end of apartheid in South Africa was sparked by an episode of Mastermind. In a one off episode between black and white contestants, white won by a single point but it was revealed that their shorter questions gave a 10 sec advantage. This remains the only TV show to be formally discussed in a country's parliament and failure to overturn a result resulted in the public unrest outside.
MEADOWXI
In tribute to the host of Mastermind there is a statue of Magnus Magnusson outside the Parliament building in Reykjavik. It is the most photographer tourist attraction in Iceland.

Hedgecutter
Dundee Utd pay an annual 'blackmail' sum to the land owner of the allotments beside Tannadice as the Eddie Thompson Stand illegally overhangs the land by three feet and the owner retains the right to force a redevelopment of the ground. United pay a five figure annual fee as it works out significantly cheaper than rebuilding the stand.

Fullerene
1 hour ago, Melanius Mullarkey said: If you drop a 1p coin from the top of the Scott Monument in Edinburgh, statistically, you are more likely to hit an OF supporter than a Hearts/HIbs fan, although they will claim to support either Hibs or Hearts. This is also true for a 5p coin and a 10p coin but bizarrely not true for a 20p coin or a 50p coin. I could go into further detail but Edinburgh police contacted Napier University and I was advised that my PhD in statistics would have to be about something else. topcat(The most tip top)
Theoretically If you drop an old firm supporter from the Scott Monument you're statistically more likely to hit a low denomination coin than a high denomination one This has yet to be proved because Police Scotland have been similarly obstructive to any efforts to build a big enough data set

Fullerene
Eric Bristow was thrown out of the Celtic youth team because he kept throwing sharp pointy things at his team mates. His parents did not know what to make of this behaviour until a family friend came up with a solution.

Richie95
Having retail units inside Scottish Castles is nothing new. It is has been claimed by some historians that during the 1600s, Stirling Castle was home to a Greggs, McDonald's and a TK Maxx.
Fullerene
Ardvreck Castle near Lochinver in Sutherland is located above the largest unused nuclear bunker in Europe. Thanks to the success of the NC500 route, an ambitious property developer has bought the place and intends to build a large shopping centre including a multiplex cinema, aquarium and seafood restaurant. It will be called the Midway Centre and the developer is currently discussing parking issues with the council.
