College Europa are doing fairly well this season: currently sat 2nd in the league 2pts behind powerhouses Lincoln, and won their League Cup section played in December. Of course they entered the Europa League in July and weren't disgraced losing 4-0 on aggregate to Vaduz.

However, it still amazes me someone playing in what is largely an amateur league, of Gibraltar's stature, has been called-up by Equatorial Guinea for ACN.

EDIT: It's not even as if he's got previous caps and happens to have moved to Gibraltar for work or whatever.

I'd guess he previously played in the lower leagues of Spain where Equitorial Guinea tend to pick up a few players from

He used to play for CD Azuqueca, who play in the 5th tier of Spanish football. He moved to Gibraltar this Summer. He was once on the books at Real Madrid and was born in Madrid.

Fair enough.

Just seems odd that he's only called-up now, after moving to a fairly low-standard league. Almost 30, too.

Still, another feather in Gibraltar's cap.

Pretty sure its just the prelim squad hes in, and Guinea have some injuries/pull outs.

Gibraltar have sacked their national team manager Allen Bula ahead of this month's qualifier at Hampden.

Though the statement is couched in the usual footballing non-committal speak, it seems he has fallen victim to the over-expectation that grew-up during Gibraltar's decades in the football wilderness. One win and two draws in friendlies, and improvements on the opening 7-0 qualifier defeats by holding George to 3-0 and Germany to 4-0 (away), seemed decent to most outsiders - but in Gibraltar there seems to have been a feeling that points were possible, even expected. President of the Gibraltar FA resigned a few weeks ago.

Foreign replacement tipped.

EDIT: Separately, they're going to CAS regarding FIFA's rejecting their application.

They lost 3-0 to one guy called George? No wonder the boss got his jotters.

Assistant manager Dave Wilson - a Scotsman - has been put in charge until the end of the season, and has named his 23-man squad for the Scotland qualifier. No fewer than 13 play for league leaders Lincoln, and the usual 4 overseas men from Preston NE, Bristol Rovers, Farsley and Bala appear.

That reminds me of the joke where Brazilian Ronaldo manages to beat Scotland 4-1 all on his own, but he was really angry with himself because he was sent off after only ten minutes.

Megabump.

Managed a 0-0 draw with Liechtenstein on Wednesday, first time they've avoided defeat since beating Malta in summer 2014... Host the more capable Latvians on Tuesday.

They only have 2 overseas professionals now - Wiseman of Scunthorpe, Gosling of Bristol Rovers - but neither featured.

Having been denied WC qualifying entry, and not been assigned centralised friendlies like Russia, they face a long 2yrs of only occasional games.
