Waspie
Bit harsh to pin it all on the Arbroath defence really, the truth was that Alloa were a good bit better all over the field. Encouraging start for us and a well deserved win. We should have been further ahead at half time but the boys kept going and the goals came. Spence looked very sharp with 3 good goals and his disallowed effort must have been a tight call for the linesman. Buchanan linked things nicely and although the size of the forward line might be an issue there is no doubt that they are an improvement on last season. Much tougher tests ahead but a good way to start the season. Bit grim for Arbroath but very early days and I'd imagine Moore will turn it around. The black away top is decent too
Lichtielegend
The defence has to take the bulk of the blame. More goals conceded from cross balls. The other worry with the defence is the complete lack of composure in possession. This isn't a new criticism but it was particularly evident today. Midfield being bypassed with hopeful, straight balls into the channels for the strikers to run onto. McManus will run all day but he's not got the speed for that style of play. Mr Gandosaur
Quite enjoyed the game today. Thought Arbroath were very poor - especially in the midfield. The ginger lad up top ran his heart out but the strikers had no service whatsoever from the middle of the park. The guy Mcbride in particular was awful. Having said that I thought they were denied a stonewaller at 2-0 which might have made for a different game - about 1 minute later it's 3-0 and game over. Alloa looked good in the second half. Thought McCord was wasted a bit out on the right wing first half but he seemed to tuck in and was far better when he was playing central. Spence took his hat-trick well and Simmons goal was a cracker.
Lichtie78
Alloa's goal was a cracker and one of if not the best we'll see at gayfield this season, but today kev nicoll didn't have the greatest game and it stood out how badly that affected us. Hunter tackled really well but apart from that was poor, and the decision to keep him on and take nicoll of was terrible. McBride was awful today, couldn't beat anyone as his ball control was awful and he's not exactly quick. Johnstone was really poor today for me, especially his distribution. After a promising pre-season, Ricky little wasn't Great and the defence completely ignored the midfield players by lumping the ball up for McManus and Murray to chase, which was pointless as the only time the balls reached there intended target, there was no support for them. Pointless waiting until the 87th minute to bring McWalter on aswell as we were well out of the game by then. Hamilton are going to absolutely decimate us. Agree with most of what you say but as for the defence lumping the ball up the pitch , what is needed is a midfield player who will make himself available to receive a pass from defenders , when there's no one in midfield who is willing to come and take the ball the only options are to play back to keeper who will 9 times out of 10 '' lump it'' or play it up the pitch , it's far too easy blaming the defence every game , but they do not have enough help from midfield , we have a problem defending cross balls , but it should be remembered that opponents have to get through our midfield and particular our wide players before they reach our defence , it's time we realised that we MUST defend as a team , also when in possession we must do much better and stop giving the ball away so cheaply when going forward , Murray looks a good addition to the team , but he needs to lift his head when running with the ball , at times he doesn't seem to aware of whats around him
Father Barrys Sign (Top Half)
Comfortable win in the end, as the score line suggests. After the early goal, it was fairly apparent a 2nd would be enough to seal the win, and it was inevitable Spence would get on the scoresheet as well. Took his goals really well and it was good to see an Alloa striker so sharp in the penalty area. Buchanan played off Spence well. Good start to the season. Wilky1878
Great game for alloa today and some of the passes and play looked like the alloa we seen at the beginning of last season. It was really good seeing two players who can run and score goals up top yesterday something we didn't have last season and this will take a lot of weight off the midfields shoulders. Will be surprised if any goal passes Simmons for goal of the season what a strike.

I think we need to see Spence and Buchanan for a few games in the league before being sure they are a big improvement on last season.
Wilky1878
Look at Spence in competitive games he's halfway to kirk's record the whole season. I think it's fair to say that we have a vast improvement already but the league will just show how capable they are at this level.
