England V San Marino

Don't often post but have to rant.

Lee Dixon, in fact a plethora of pundits, need to learn the rules. I'm sick of these erses gettin paid mega bucks and talking pish.

He basically said it's a stick on pen as it was dangerous play. Dangerous play results in an indirect free kick, not a pen FFS. Ref is a tit as well.

Anyway, England are boring, too rigid in their approach. More Hodgson must go tomorrow probs.

Playing San Marino really is a waste of time. Perhaps their opponents should just nominate a member of their squad to undertake that days Guardian quiz to determine the goals against?

Slovenia have just taken the lead against Toblerone fc.

Do all these third rate qualification groups that England find themselves add to their underachievements when they reach major finals?

5-0 is that an averagey score against San Marino these days? I know they've had a couple of double digit doings in the last few qualification campaigns.

Rooney's goal tonight shouldn't count towards his England record.

Mind he got credited with one in Euro2004 when his shot hit the post, came out, hit the diving goalie on the knapper and went in. The odious little gob bag will no doubt be credited with this one too.

Was glad to see "Wazza" look like a tadger when he tried to chip the keeper when he was clean through.

Fair do's San Marino are nowhere near his level, but no need in taking the piss. Be professional. And by the way yer hair's shite Rooney, speak to Bobby Charlton for comb over tips.

That's pointless pedantry, and isn't really true anyway. The offence you're talking about is now called "playing in a dangerous manner" rather than "dangerous play". The offence of "playing in a dangerous manner" does indeed result in an indirect free-kick, but the rule only applies to incidents where no contact is made between the players.

Tonight's incident was as clear a penalty as you'll ever see, so Dixon was right in that respect. The term "dangerous play" probably wasn't the best one to use, but it's hardly something ridiculously wrong either. It was indeed a piece of play which was dangerous to Rooney.

If England don't win all 10 group games then Hodgson should be sacked and banned by FIFA from ever managing again.

I think it's safe to say England fans can look their passports out, book the hotels etc.
