I worked for seabourn for a few years. They definitely have one of the best reputations of the luxury super yacht companys. The ship I was on had 210 guests to 150 crew. Their mantra is to focus heavily on customer service. So if that's your thing then they would be a good shout.

If you get bored easily though, give them a miss, seriously. There is really very little to do onboard, if you're doing a big crossing with lots of sea days, it does become a chore.

The standard of entertainment in my time ranged from ok to poor. The food was pretty reasonable.

If your looking for smaller ships, I've only ever heard good things about crystal. Or if you're looking at the circus of the bigger ones, royal Caribbean seems to be top dog atm.

I like doing my own thing and can't often be bothered with other people, being sociable and getting dressed up for fucking dinner.

This will depend on what cruise ship you are on (how big it is etc). On my one you had to dress very smart to eat in the 'official restaurant' but me and my wife are like you so we didn't have a single meal in there. Ours had a 24hr buffet hall that was class - had all your junk food stuff as well as loads of pastas, fish, fruit, snacks and some proper meals (i.e there was always different neat carverys each day at the buffet). It also had about 6 other restaurants which there wasn't a dress code such as a sports bar, an Italian, a steak house etc.

In essence, research your ship before you book to find out what's on it. Can make all the difference

I went on a seven day cruise last June, just me and the wife. P&O Azura, was massive with 5000 people onboard. Sailed from Southampton to Guernsey then to Cherbourg,Porto and La Coruna.

I never fancied it but we loved it, superb food 24hours and 24hour room service. Entertainment was decent but we spent most evenings in the Casino. Loads to do at night and during the day, you don't really need to leave the ship when it docks at each port as you can do lots on the ship but we went exploring.

Definitely worth a try.

The 201 to East Kilbride has better stops than that.

I worked on one for 2 years, was a great life. Now it's our holiday of choice.

Big floating hotel in which you wake up in a different place every day, not a bad way to travel. Of course some ships and lines are better than others, but in general it's great value.

You're not far wrong. The Reliance vans from Glasgow sheriff has better stops too.

Guernsey was like a OAP village, Cherbourg was a dive, Porto was full of beggars, La Coruna was decent though with nice beaches. We only went off for a hour or two then went back on the ship to drink and sunbathe.

You should ask Addie - I had to work for a living but being General Service he's been on quite a few 'cruises' ^_^
