Summer football

I said more myth than truth and that the vast majority coped absolutely fine. Camelon were also affected last season. It's also the case that clubs who suffer from poor drainage tend to play more at the end of the season. Anyway, this was discussed in 1960 and rejected out of hand. There's a reason for that - the clubs are perfectly content playing football through the winter and they're quite right.

The problem is they are not playing in the winter

How many times is this discussion going to happen on this forum....

Think it will happen in direct proportion to the number of games lost through extreme weather in the heart of winter.

When supporters get a few hours notice that games are off, sponsors similar. The same sponsors who brave the winter to enjoy their hospitality. Sponsors who from one week to the next have no idea whether a game is on at all, or even whether it is a league or a cup game, and therefore never sure who the opposition may be.

Some will insist on retaining winter games as clubs get closer to the financial precipice. But if you live in the real world, then summer football must be examined. And get past the usual SJFA fudge of 'hands up for summer football' at the AGM.

Having watched Womans football its bloody baltic for pre-season games and even march can be a bad month for weather games get called off for waterlogged pitches and has been said when do you play the postponed games because you will be in to November for nowhere to go. You would probably have to play saturday monday wednesday to risk not having a problem at the end of the season

You list some of the problems basicly No1; its excessive rain on pitches unable to cope with it or bad drainage. No2; following No1 frost. No3; Snow. Then we have cup matches, mainly the Scottish that comes in ruins league programs with it taking many weeks to clear a round. It causes a pile up in fixtures and results in various problems. Clubs with a good run in the Scottish fall way behind in the league. Prime examples in recent years show clubs completed their fixtures while others still involved in cup have only reached around halfway in league fixtures.

Then we have the teams with early exits from cups who find their season ended before May while some are playin three games aweek to catch up. With relegation and promotion settled there are a pile of meaningless games that are of no interest to fans, clubs lose vital income.

Something needs to be done if the Junior Game is to be an alternative to the overpriced senior grade, who with few exceptions are running on empty. There must be a decent alternative to the present set up turning thousands away from the Juniors. .RRG nakes the valid point on why this subject comes up every season because we are concerned at the state of the Junior Grade. I'm sure it will continue to be discussed, and who knows some day it will be tackled.
