The SNP are the only anti-Tory party left.

Or anyone with half a brain.

Say the SNP emerge as the third largest party, the Tories gain a few more seats than Labour but don't have the numbers for a majority, even with the support of the Lib Dems, or UKIP and DUP...

a) What would you want Labour to do?

b) What do you think they would do?

Make an agreement with the SNP. My ideal government would be Labour/SNP, however it would be idiocy for Miliband to say he would be open to this at this stage.

I agree this is what would happen. I'd say lying publicly lying about something a week before the election that will haunt him desperately if he wins office is idiocy. Unless he succesfully bluffs his way to a majority (I'd say this is extremely unlikely) it's a no win situation.

Even with it patently obvious that he'd be reliant on the SNP to get into office, he was (and is) favourite to achieve this. I don't think most folk outside of the Tory shires are as afraid of the big bad Nat monsters as he thinks they are. He's dug himself a hole here for virtually no reason.

As was seen when he ruled out another referendum (fine by me), Miliband caves under pressure, whether it be from the Tories or his own party.

You have to wonder whether he's tough enuss for the gig.

If it is a choice between letting Dave in for another five years or chumming up with Nicola, I am sure the backroom boys in the Labour Party will know what to do. If it means jettisoning Ed in the process, then this is what will happen.

There's anti-Tory parties out there in addition to Plaid and the Greens, like TUSC for instance - but Labour most certainly aren't one of them.

Last night was just another demonstration that when real change is mooted, be it PR, Scots Independence, or one of the Tory parties being in power, the established parties (including the Yellow Whores) will fight tooth and nail to protect the system which keeps their noses in the trough and the electorate effectively disenfranchised.

This country needs a proper revolution. Apparently Britain doesn't do revolution. Well, up until the last parliament, we didn't do widespread rioting and looting either.

There's a wind of change blowing down from the North. Rather than building windbreaks, the "establishment" should be building windmills.

The lack of a Socialist alternative - or a civilising balance, if you will - will ensure that, when subjugation of the masses reaches a tipping point, heads will end up on spikes.

I don't think that many really care about the SNP either, and a lot of Labour voters would welcome them. However, quite a few commentators are saying the Tory attack on a possible Labour/SNP deal is having an effect in some places. Most likely places where the 'threat' is helping to get people who are going to vote UKIP to return home. The election is looking ridiculously close, and it won't take much to swing a few of the marginal seats.

Spot on. I don't think it would mean Miliband getting ditched but it would be a delicious irony if this was a biproduct of it.

I've actually supported Miliband against some of the criticism; I'd rather have him than his Blairite brother. But he's been tactically inept on the whole SNP issue from day one and allowed himself to get boxed in.

The SNP are tartan tories. Period.

YAWN

I'm new to pie and bovril and thought by coming on the politics thread I would see some constructive arguments/debates from all sides as I'm having a bit of a personal battle with who to vote for.
