With some teams playing 3 games a week recently,is it not time something was done to ease the situation, having more than 1 midweek game in August would be a start, views please

More games need be played at the start of the season, a Saturday-Wednesday schedule for the first three weeks would get the leagues off to a solid start, at the very least those with 16 clubs ie Super and Premier. Maybe less midweeks for North/South given these clubs tend not to last too long in cup comps and they're unlikely to have the full 16 clubs each next season.

I know if this was happening in the senior game, they would be complaining about the amount of games they were having to play. What you have to remember the guys that are playing junior have their work during the day.

History tells you that the same teams tend to cause the fixtures backlog every season. Yet they get no additional games at the start of the season to assist.

Kelty and Linlithgow (hopefully Musselburgh) will have additional games to play in the SFA cup so right away there is games where they will fall behind.

Winter is also the great unknown factor - mild and no games lost - severe and everyone loses games.

Nobody knows at the start of the season which teams will get a good run in the junior cup and with Kelty Linlithgow and hopefully

Mussleburgh competing in the senior Scottish next season so them 3 teams can be given extra games at the start of the season to compensate there cup games....if they then do well in junior cup and local cups they will no doubt still fall behind depending on the winter we have....during the winter just passed Kelty dos well to switch games when there park was unplayable and that was very good of there opponents that day....I understand the leagues with less teams in it will finish early but hope the sjfa and the regions can sort something out to prevent teams finishing in early April and it's showing now for Linlithgow and mussleburgh that there run in the junior is catching up with them and Linlithgow had a slight chance to win the league but because of the successful cup run the backlog of fixture put paid to there league chances

A quick look back over the seasons shows the teams who are regularly playing into late May and June. Just as the teams who regularly finish early April every season.

That shows you right away areas to address with more/less games . (More or less games in August for these teams)

Not an exact science but a good starting point

When they abolished the Sectional Cups and expanded the divisions from 12 to 16 clubs, the number of games increased from 27 (22+5) to 30, but at the same time the number of midweeks played in August was reduced? There were to be 2 / 3 midweeks in the Sectional Cup; now only 1 is played in the league.

So the number of games went up by 3... and the number of dates used went down by 2... which means an increased burden of 5 on spring.

And what floodlights exist aren't used to play midweeks in March/early April. That could surely take the edge off the backlogs.

We can never tell how the weather is gonna be,but having more games at the start would give clubs a chance in the spring, this August there are 4 midweeks, maybe even have 1 in September ample opportunity to play,if there is a bad winter, then this would help if not solve the problem foe everyone

Should be midweek league fixtures for the first month of the season issued, lunacy not to take advantage of the better weather and the good playing surfaces. It wasn't a problem playing midweek when the league cup was in existence, hopefully the powers that be take heed and look at it for next season.

we played BSC Glasgow away twice on Wednesday nights last season under the lights at Lochburn Park. The kick off time was 7.30. Maryhill's about 50 miles from Edinburgh give or take a mile or two. Our players have their work during the day too. We also played Stirling Uni at Forthbank in midweek and also at Gretna last season and Whitehill travelled to East Kilbride this season for a Friday night match.

There's nothing to stop midweek fixtures being between reasonably local clubs though- e.g. Dunbar v Tranent, Newtongrange v Bonnyrigg, Glenrothes v St Andrews, Linlithgow v Broxburn, Broxburn v Bo'ness, Blackburn v Stoneyburn (which was under lights for the second half in the recent fixture as it was a rainy murky wednesday night!), etc.

To many junior teams don't have lights - and for some reason a lot won't play competitive matches under them??

Given our predicament on 4 games (Saturday to Saturday) over the last 3 weeks - we would have been delighted to have played a midweek game earlier on in the season.
