It's very silly that the promoted side(s) from the Championship have to play in the first round instead of the relegated side(s) from the Premiership.

Still, if our match gets moved to the weekend before our first league game it will be decent.

It won't - all of the unseeded clubs (infact everyone in the League Cup R1 draw except for yourself) will be playing Challenge Cup ties that weekend. Your tie will, going by previous practice, be played on Tuesday/Wednesday 4th/5th August. As you say it is very silly you enter in R1 and St Mirren in R2 - it is also very silly that Dundee United enter in R3 despite not playing in Europe.

Has anyone attempted to explain why they continue to use this crazy system?

Right enough, I forgot about that utter joke of a tournament.

Oh well, looks like we'll be playing two midweek fixtures in a row.

It gets better.

SPFL have published dates for the draws of cup rounds this season alongwith the actual round dates. Note this regarding League Cup R2 draw:

Second round

Draw to be made on Monday August 3

Ties due Tuesday/Wednesday August 25/26

That would be before Hearts play their R1 tie - unless they break with previous practice and play it the midweek before, opposed to after.

So by my reckoning, we'll see a repeat of the Rangers situation of a year or two ago, whereby the draw will be before the tie and the seeding would be out-of-kilter if Hearts then lost?

Oh spfl. We really aren't asking much, why do you continue to make such basic mistakes?

We'll now see an aggressive statement attacking the fans for questioning them, promising us it will be fine and then put there heads in the sand when they are once again proven wrong.

There's zero chance we will lose to either the bottom half of League 1 or League 2 side we'll get drawn against in the first round.

Firstly that's not the point, the seed club isn't always a certainty. Secondly that's what people said last year before Rangers only got past Queen's Park 2-1, hardly an emphatic scoreline you'll agree, to prove that very point...

Sevco are utterly howling, though, and it's still largely irrelevant in any case. We'll progress at a canter and be seeded in the second round.

That's progress as the fans and clubs never normally know when the draws will be made.

Surprised they haven't published a draw date for the final.
