Suspect "Smyth s/o" in Saturday's game wouldn't have helped Linfield if he was suspended as a result. Stood out in a big way as a player that could probably make a significant impact with a fully pro club elsewhere in the one game I watched recently. The guy that came on late for him (Bates?) had good basic skills but athletically was one of the slowest players I have ever seen playing at a decent standard.

Bates is clearly overweight and it is hard to believe he was a Newcastle youth product. Young Smyth was indeed suspended and Linfield were intimately acquainted with the woodwork towards the end of the game, but them's the breaks.

Congratulations to Ballymena United.

Crusaders come from 2 down to beat Glentoran 4-2, Glens have a man sent off at 3-2. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35334153

Another 3-3 for Cliftonville drawing with Glenavon at Mpitneview, that must be the end of the Reds' title hopes now. Another comeback from 2-0 down, Glenavon trailing. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35334156

And Warrenpoint finally getting a win, trouncing Coleraine - who else? - 3-0 at home. Town's first clean sheet in 28 games. :lol:http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35334312

Crusaders are now 8 points clear (of Cliftonville) who have played a game more, then Linfield on 46 from 23 games, same amount of games as Crusaders.

At the bottom Warrenpoint now have 10 points, 6 less than Carrick who have 3 games in hand and 7 less than Ballinamallard who have also played 23, same as Town..

Crusaders get a late win at Portydown to stay top of the table, with Clim'ville staying second thanks to a 20 win over the Mighty Ducks of Ballinamallard United. Linfield crush Ballymena United 4-0 at the Showgrounds, but the result of the day was Warrenpoint's 4-0 away win over Glentoran. After picking up just 4 points from their first nineteen games Warrenpoint now have three wins and three draws in their last six, and the relegation battle is shaping up to be a nerve biting thriller that could go all the way to the last day.

Dungannon Swifts 23 5 4 14 27 39 19

Carrick Rangers 22 4 7 11 25 39 19

Ballinamallard Utd 24 4 5 15 24 40 17

Warrenpoint Town 25 4 4 17 25 53 16

Aye, the bottom of the table certainly looks a lot more interesting than the top, Warrenpoints last 2 results have certainly put the cat amongst the relegation pigeons.

After gifting Warrenpoint 3 points, Coleraine have helped out their fellow relegation strugglers, Carrick getting 3 points yesterday.

We're generous like that.

I'm sure Warrenpoint and Carrick were both generous odds against Coleraine.

But if it gives every club something to play for through to the end of the season it maybe helps keep crowds up after the split and that is no bad thing? I suspect it is only a matter of time until that type of playoff gets added to the mix in Scotland for just that reason. Not totally sold on that, but something Scotland should definitely copy is the willingness of football in NI to let an underachieving traditional top tier club like Distillery slide away into a lower grade.

When you consider that there are large towns and cities in the province with no team in the top tier of Irish football(i.e Bangor,Lisburn,Newtonards,Newry and that old chestnut Derry :P ) that really is a sizeable chunk of the population of planet NI which has no local interest in the IPL, a fare few Linfield and Glenmen of course but it may be easier to get youngsters interested in there local sides if they were in the top league, also worth pointing out that it also highlights how good an achievement it is for smaller teams like Ballinamallard ,Warrenpoint and until recently Institute to have a prescence in the IPL.

Anyone in particular in mind LTL?

Queen's Park would be the obvious one in hanging around in the national divisions long after people had lost interest in them, but it was basically just a round about way of saying Scotland should follow in NI's footsteps in moving to having a genuine pyramid. Probably not too many people paying attention to the end of this season's reconstruction of Championships 1 and 2 in NI, but ditching a national division (or arguably even two) from the SPFL and turning it it into a nonleague "conference" opened up fully to all the top regional divisions beneath it is the sort of radical move that should have been done in Scotland but wasn't.

Crusaders running away with it, it will require a Mortonesque collapse for someone else to win it. Coleraine robbed, robbed, I tell ye! Coleraine drop to fifth, might not even finish in top six. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/35451516

Interesting at the bottom: Pld GD Pts

Moving up 9 Ballinamallard United 25 -14 20

Moving down 10 Dungannon Swifts 23 -12 19

Moving down 11 Carrick Rangers 23 -16 19

No movement 12 Warrenpoint Town 25 -28 16

Irish Cup day and Coleraine's season is over as they lose 3-1 to Portadown, Crusaders go through by the same score at Dungannon Clifonville beat Sports and Leisure Swifts 4-0, Glentoran hammered 4-1 at home by Glenavon, Linfield crush Armagh 7-0, Loughgall beat PSNI 2-0 and Lurgan Celtic win 1-0 against Knockbreda.

Unsurprisingly, Carrick v Crumlin Star is off.

New boss at the Oval, http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34760782

bit out of the blue this one personally I was hoping for Smicker from H&W but to be honest he perhaps knows the workings of the club a little too well which would put anyone off..

Can't say I know too much about Kernaghan but we shall see.

Would be interesting to get St J and Dundee fan's takes on his tenures there.

I usually like to give managers a chance but from what I've seen Kernaghan has been woeful so far, I wasn't in favour of getting shot of Eddie anyway ,whilst he wasn't faultless he knew how to perform in cups.

You can't say you weren't warned... :whistle
