The James McClean Sponsored Poppy Thread

Recommended Posts

I have no objection to remembrance but also no objection to dissent to it at football matches. It is ridiculous how sport and entertainment has been hijacked.

Not exactly fair to Kuruhashi, or Jurgen Klopp or Thomas Tuchel to have this stuff imposed on them at their work, is it?

The relentless ramping up of remembrance at football is pointless propaganda of no value and a lot of people find it distasteful.

Think they should have checked the design before releasing this  What a cock up.

If I was as big a lad as Tommy I would want it as a respectable pin badge as well.

ETA, quoting it makes it even better, Div clearly disrespects the poppy people.

Sorry to be a killjoy but that looks exactly like a soldier holding a rifle and nothing like a soldier holding a dick

The more important factor for me is that it just goes to show how meaningless the whole Poppy craze has become and how far we have moved from a symbol of quiet rememberance and reflection.

When a person placed that outside of a sex shop and didn't think it was inappropriate you know the whole "lest we forget' thing is just a meme to many folk.

I'm now at the stage of putting a couple of quid in the tin but not bothering with the poppy.

It's not just with Remembrance Day though, it's something which has filtered through to every event we have in the year.  To me, it's a combination of the Americanisation of our culture and the need to be relevant on social media - a terrible combination.
