The nation state is a massively flawed idea and there is no inherent reason why a nation is a particularly good basis for a state. My reasons for supporting Scottish independence were despite the fact it would become a nation state and cease to be part of a multi-national state, not because of it.

Which makes me wonder why so many people claim that Scotland being part of what you call a "multinational" state is good for Scotland, but not for the UK. Apparently Scotland not being a nation state = good, but the UK not being a nation state = bad. Many of them don't even want the UK in a loose, semi-federal union like the EU, but want Scotland to remain incorporated into another state.
