Glenconner
Rangers v Arsenal 1973 centenary game. 75,000 crowd 5p for the terracing, 10p for the stand. There was even fireworks at the end. Thing is, why was the centenary game played in 1973 when Rangers were founded in 1872?

The Mantis
It was always 1873 when I was growing up. Lost any interest in rangers long long ago, don't know when they started with this 1872 but I was at that one.
The Second Andy Goram
First match was in mid 1872. First general meeting etc was in 73.
Glenconner
Strange one because i'm sure 1873 used to written on the side of the main stand.
The Second Andy Goram
Strange one because i'm sure 1873 used to written on the side of the main stand. No idea why they'd change it. Maybe evidence was found later on that suggested an earlier formation?
Joey Jo Jo Junior Shabadoo
What's so special about the formation year anyway? It's just another chapter in the pointless rivalry between Rangers and Celtic. Rangers built a mini mall, Celtic built a bigger mini mall. Rangers made the world's largest pizza, so Celtic burnt down Govan Town Hall.

Thing is, why was the centenary game played in 1973 when Rangers were founded in 1872? This has been done to death? It was always 1873 to me. So a sports writer did a spot of research and concluded we actually formed as a football team the year before, which has since been widely accepted! Whats the problem?
