I've not listened to the whole album but the bits I've heard it sounds like the strokes to me.

There's definitely a post-Strokes feeling to it. I found bit of Weezer, a bit of Rival Schools, a bit of Prefab Sprout. I think that's what's so good about it - there's plenty in there that can be identified but it somehow sounds quite distinctive and unique.

I think he's technically and lyrically light years ahead of the Strokes.  The first Strokes record, and the first two Weezer albums are influences, but by his own admission, he likes to incorporate popular culture and music (and not necessarily music he likes, either) into his songs.  Hence, of course, all the legal shenanigans with this second record.

The new Felice Brothers is looking encouraging for an end of year placement. Decent this

They seem to be churning out new records every six weeks at the moment.  All they seem to do is drink and chuck stuff together.

I'll need to listen to the whole album now. As I said I've only heard one or two tunes (& a live session on the radio).

Edit. I think my comparison was based mostly on "Fill in the Blanks".

Anyone else purchased Clams Casino's first proper lp? Quite enjoying it thus far, although feel he does better with the more atmospheric stuff then just backing tracks for iffy rappers. "Ghost in a Kiss" being a particular highlight.

The new Car Seat Headrest is a topper, no doubt about it.

2016 has been pretty good so far and with efforts still to come from Nick Cave, Opeth, Russian Circles and Neurosis it's all shaping up to be stellar edition.

1. Swans - The Glowing Man

2. Anohni - Hopelessness

3. Explosions in the Sky - The Wilderness

4. Car Seat Headrest - Teens of D

5. Nails - You will never be one of us

6. Cobalt - Slow Forever

7. Cult of Luna - Mariner

8. Heck - Instructions

9. Frightened Rabbit - Painting of a Panic Attack

10.Bossk - Audio Noir

My Ma is visiting on holiday and heard me playing Vincent this morning. She thought it was the Beatles.

Way too early to have a best of list, but there are a few albums that I've enjoyed:

Case/Lang/Veirs

Margo Price

Karl Blau

Also really looking forward to the Julie Ruin album. Kathleen Hanna was great in Bikini Kill and Le Tigre and what I've heard of her new stuff is pretty damn good.

The new Wild Beasts album is pretty good. Tails off a wee bit towards the end but the first five or six songs are immense, especially Get My Bang and Celestial Creatures.

How do you feel it compares to their last few? Their last three albums are up there in my favourite albums of the past decade but wasn't really feeling the new tunes when they've been dropping them on by one recently.

That's a good question. I got into them after their performance of All The King's Men on Jools Holland and was absolutely transfixed. I really like the way they've become more and more minimalist and less flamboyant as they've progressed - Smother is excellent, especially the Blue Nile-esque tunes like Deeper, Loop the Loop and Invisible, and Present Tense stripped things back even further and added a glorious electronic sheen to things - but I reckon they took things as far as they could. Boy King represents a bit of a sideways move and I think it's been a really positive step for them. These are really meaty tracks, probably the most straightforward they've ever done, but the old themes, love and fucking, are still there.

It took me a couple of listens to really get into Get My Bang but once it hits the spot it's incredible. One of the best things about Wild Beasts is their refusal to settle on the one sound - while Present Tense was phenomenal, I'm pleased to see they've changed things up again.
