U.K. politics will impact upon when we can and will have a further Independence referendum. A totally dominant Tory Party is not the best scenario for that IMO. We already have a mandate to have one in this parliament.

Zetterlund
World democracy index 2017. Any surprises? I haven't looked into how this is calculated, but I thought it was interesting given recent events that Spain appears to be one of the more democratic nations in Europe. Also I wonder what makes Ireland more democratic than the UK.

Zetterlund
It says it's based on 60 indicators, but maybe just generally being an utter circus show of incompetence relegates you to the next shade down.
Glen Sannox
"Oh look - there's Jeremy Corbyn. Looks like he forgot to comb his hair today." "Oh there you go again. Colluding with the right-wing press against the first true socialist leader the Labour Party has ever known. Someone who is prepared to make the fundamental changes this country so desperately needs - but that is not good enough for you, I guess. I suppose you prefer a leader who wants to engage in illegal wars, be a complete poodle to the American President and not really do anything here that makes any real difference for the people who need it most." "Actually no. I was going to ask him if he wanted to borrow my comb."

Cerberus
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-43611527 The number of children in poverty in the UK increased by 100,000 in the last year. What a mess yet the Tories are still the most popular party in the UK.

The House of Lords, the Monarchy, Proportional Representation in Ireland, the astonishing political influence a bunch of unelected newspaper owners have and the amount of news coverage that somebody like Nigel Farage gets even when his party has no MPs.

Also I wonder what makes Ireland more democratic than the UK. Most They awarded Ireland 10/10 for Political Culture & Civil Liberties while the UK was ranked 8.13 and 9.12 respectively. And according to the white paper Spain are, in football parlance, still top flight but very much in the relegation zone Quote At 8.08, Spain’s score remains just above the threshold of 8 for full democracies, having fallen significantly as a result of the national government’s attempt to stop by force Catalonia’s illegal referendum on independence on October 1st. After a unilateral declaration of independence by the regional parliament, the national government temporarily suspended Catalan home rule. Several pro-independence leaders face criminal charges and have been jailed on remand, but pro-independence parties still won a snap regional election held on December 21st. With opinion in the region deeply divided and tensions with the national government running high, the conflict is set to continue.
