How would that work? Would it actually be a merger to create some sort of Vicenza/province of Vicenza superteam or is it a case of Vicenza taking over Bassano Virtus?

well - i think it's a merger of sorts, but tantamount to a Vicenza takeover - seen the name Virtus Vicenza bandied about;  Bassano would cease to exist, reform at a lower level and leave the void in Serie C that Santarcangelo are hoping to fill; the new club would take on Vicenza's storied (sic) 116 year history; other than initially having to comply with the two club ownership thing - now an irrelevance since Rosso handed over control of Bassano to his son - I don't see why they even need to be involved, at all - they're based over 20 miles from Vicenza and could quite happily continue as they are (presumably offloaded to new wholly independent owners) - they seem to be getting the very shitty end of the stick for no reason whatsoever, other than the fact that the local authorities in BdG have opposed Rosso's expansionist plans every step of the way - quite rightly, IMO, looking to ensure the preservation of their club - one more reason to dislike the cat-eaters....

first of tonight's Serie B preliminary play-offs just finished - Cittadella 2-2 Bari, with the home team going through in this one-off game having finished higher in the final league table; top quality entertainment with fisticuffs and three red cards for the visitors towards the end of extra time as Bari got increasingly desperate; Venezia and Perugia just kicking off for the second game....

1-0 Pippo's boys take the lead on half an hour - hell of a goal, too...

same scoreline as the second half gets underway; Perugia in the same boat as Bari - they have to win or they're out - makes for much more fun than penalties !

2-0 Venezia on 75 minutes and game over; Perugia have looked shite - managed one half chance in the whole game so far, no way are they getting three in fifteen minutes or so...

3-0

OK - so that's all done and dusted: two-legged semi finals in Serie B to come now - Venezia v Palermo and Cittadella v Frosinone

have also seen the quarter finals in Serie C decided today, leaving the following matches to come: Robur Siena v Catania and SudTirol v Cosenza, again home and away matches; SudTirol are based in Bolzano, just south of the Austrian border and Cosenza are from the far south west - over 700 miles between then - that's Inverness to Penzance, with the first leg on Tuesday night  !

There was a game between Lazio & West Ham Legends last night at the Olimpico to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the ICF.

At half time Lotito the Lazio owner came onto the pitch and promised the fans SMS wouldn't be sold for anything less than €100 million and to expect big signings in the Summer.

Inzaghi was also present, which I assume rules out him leaving which a few were suggesting.

A game with former players to celebrate a football firm seems odd. You would think they wouldn't want to be associated.

AsSRoma reportedly agree terms with Justin Kluivert but still need to negotiate a fee for the Ajax winger

They've also signed Ante Coric from Dynamo Zagreb. Looks like they're building for the future

La Viola interested in Matias Vargas of Vélez Sarsfield. Can get him for €14m. This will rise after Saturday to almost twice that.

The Gobbis sniffing about Chiesa amongst talk of a €50m transfer.

Yes there was a lot of contention regarding it.

The politics in Italian football are obviously incredibly different to how they are here. So Lazio were posting things on numerous Social Network channels about the event. Made a massive fuss about the whole event. Had a pretty good team out, and the fans turned out as well.

West Ham however had nothing to do with it, it may have been different but the fella who organised the West Ham team etc is the same guy who started the protest talks against the board.

The ladies teams of both sides were meant to play each other before the match, but West Ham pulled the plug on it the evening beforehand. Which meant a lot had already traveled over for nothing. David Sullivan's son is the Director of the Ladies side, so he would have been aware a while back.

Di Canio was meant to play a half for each side, but he didn't turn up at a Irriducibili's member funeral, so he was told not to go.

couple more rumours: Suso off from Milan to Atletico Madrid, to be replaced by Memphis Depay or Jose Callejon

Simone Edera to Parma on a permanent deal, from Torino

Alessio Sundas - the bloke who organised the F1 grid girls - acting as broker in a proposed takeover deal for Hellas Verona by an "unnamed buyer"

Hellas also sniffing around Emile Hallfredsson (Udinese and at the WC with Iceland) and Fiorentina's Gabriele Gori

Have also promoted their head of scouting to the position of Director of Football - not worth a mention, other than the fact that his name is Tony D'Amico - no idea how fat he might be, but the Gialloblú suits him just fine  :)

in other news - Sud Tirol and Robur Siena won the first legs of the Serie C play-offs, both 1-0, beating Cosenza and Catania respecitively; i'm scouring the Italian media for any sign of Cosenza fans who might have made the 1,420 mile round trip for a midweek match - nothing come up so far....

fucking get in there - even Rab's gotta be impressed with this lot - makes Gateshead's midweek jaunt to Torquay look like nipping next door to the shops for some milk

Luzzi is a town just north of Cosenza - the flag says "Luzzi Everywhere"; couple of other banners there with the old-style Cosenza badge on 'em - imagine they were a bit pissed off having gone that far to lose to a 93rd minute goal

cap duly doffed an' all....

all over for SuperPippo's boys - Palermo win the 2nd leg of the play off semi final 1-0 and go through 2-1 on aggregate; looked easy enough - Venezia had little or no goal-threat and didn't even threaten towards the end when their season was on the line - bit of a lame effort from  Il Leoni Alati, I thought - can't imagine that Big Joe is massively happy...

later on this evening - Frosinone v Cittadella (1-1 after the first leg) and the two Serie C return matches (Sud Tirol and Robur Siena 1-0 up against Cosenza and Catania respectively)

Cosenza score in the 94th minute to make it 2-0 and go through to the playoff final. Had it stayed at 1-0 then Südtirol would have gone through by virtue of finishing higher in their group. It's probably my fault because just before Cosenza scored, I checked to see if Südtirol had ever been in Serie B. They hadn't - and they still haven't.

Catania-Siena have gone into extra time but Siena are down to 10 men. Catania currently 2-1 up but both teams finished 2nd in their respective groups therefore league position does not apply here. Not sure if away goals applies after extra time.

Frosinone currently beating Cittadella 1-0.

*edit* Cittadella have just equalised.

siena win on penalties - playing cosenza for a place in Serie B - attendance of over 20,000 for tonight's game in catania !

and it's frosinone v palermo for promotion to serie A

one-off game for serie C (this coming saturday) - home and away for frosinone and palermo

could do with Siena winning promotion, as that's another possible game to watch Hellas when i'm over in Tuscany in the autumn - forza lupi bianchi e neri !

Finally, in Celano news, sadly it is unlikely that they will field a team in Promozione next season. No idea if they will go bust completely or play in Prima/Seconda/Terza Categoria or focus on solely being a youth team. If they end up not registering for Promozione then Sportland Celano or Lanciano (not the same one who went bust in 2015/16) may end up taking their place.

They only have 3 players currently. This could be a tough Promozione season.

Less than a year on and after a poor Promozione campaign where they finished one place above the relegation playout zone, due to shite finances AGAIN, Celano have had to merge with Pro Celano. The new team will be called Celano Calcio. Or Celano 1919 FC. It's not clear yet. Because of Celano's previously poor financial situation, they'll be starting from Prima Categoria next season. Which is completely correct.

Hopefully next season will be the season where they finally get their arses in gear and not tail off after a decent start.

According to La Repubblica, Lazio have rejected an 80 million bid from an unnamed club for Ciro Immobile while an offer somewhere close to 50 million euro from Sevilla for Luis Alberto has also been declined.

Would have definitely thought that £50 million figure for Alberto would be accepted.

meanwhile, Hellas, who unsurprisingly did not renew Fabio Pecchia's managerial contract at the end of the season are keeping a close eye on the Serie B promotion play-offs, with a view to poaching Pippo Inzaghi as their new boss if l'Arancioneroverdi don't make it to Serie A via the playoffs; first round (one-off game) against Perugia for them tomorrow (03.06), then a two-legged semi against Palermo; much-loved at the Bentegodi after a prolific spell on loan there in the mid-90's when he was known as SuperPippo, he'd be far and away the most popular choice with the fans (unless Luca Toni decides to take up management very quickly...) but I can't help feeling that if he doesn't stay with Venezia that his next club is going to (deservedly) be of a higher calibre than Setti's Gialloblù omnishambles....

Off to Bologna:

Felipe Anderson set to join West Ham from Lazio for £30 million plus installments and a 20% sell on fee.

Strakosha also the subject of interest from Bayer Leverkusen, with Rui Patricio looking like the man to replace him if he does leave.
