Forfar v Cowdenbeath

Recommended Posts

An eventful end to end game with both sides having trouble defending! That was some run Dean Brett went on in the 2nd half and would have been a great goal if it had went in.

Done well to get back to 3-3 before the sucker punch at the end.

Horrendous defending by both teams but Cowden much worse than Forfar. McGurn had some amazing saves, can't remember Adam having any saves. Forfar looked dangerous every time they went forward and their players especially on the left had loads of space.

Liam has a lot of work to do to get this sorted.

Still carrying passengers too. Why was CJ brought on with a few minutes to go?

We started pretty well - put in a lot of meaty tackles in midfield, and played the ball about on the ground. The surface cried out for football on the deck, but after we took the lead, our tactics seemed to be to hammer the ball in the air to the Bulgarian. It was brutal stuff, made the eyes bleed. Big Stuart Malcolm could header the ball forward all day, but he's slow as death on the ground - so we played the ball to him in the air! Made no sense.

At our end, we just couldn't defend. If it hadn't been for McGurn, we would have had a right doing.

Forfar weren't much better. When we did get forward on the ground later in the game, the Forfar defence looked vulnerable. They looked more mobile than us, but they were there for the taking after our opening goal and we let them off the hook.

Moore looked good. He had the beating of the full back and took his goal well. But he received very few passes on the deck. Very frustrating.

When we did claw it back to 3-3, with the Forfar defence panicking, our defence once more gifted Forfar another easy goal.

Forfar deserved it on the day. We still have a lot of work to do.

No improvement from last week then Ron as it was eye bleeding stuff last week too.

Only positive is we clawed back level with two goals behind so their must have been some fighting spirit in the team which is encouraging.

However I am concerned about our horrendous defence which has been a problem for us in the last 3seasons and has ultimately caused our spiralling out of control downfall in recent seasons

Fox will need to learn very quickly about his team if we are serious about getting promoted this year as we are already behind 4 points of the promotion zone and joint bottom

Fortunately Fox will have good contacts in Hearts to bounce ideas and obtain feedback from what has not been a very good start for him. He is an ambitious young manager and he will be itching to get things right immediately and I am sure the players will have had a stern talking too regarding what needs to be improved upon.

Shame the team can't deliver as much effort as the boardroom do for the club

Early days in the season but we must improve fast otherwise we may be left behind of where we want to be

I just want a team we can be proud of again as does everyone else connected with the club

Entertaining game, some great goals and horrific defending, as mentioned.

MOTM was definitely the Cowden keeper McGurn, some fantastic saves.

A couple of interesting refereeing points:  Previously booked Todorov celebrates his goal by lifting his shirt over his head, ref actually shows some common sense and just has words with him.  3rd Cowden goal was a cracker but how did the ref and lino miss the blatant foul leading up to it.

Anybody know who the trialist was, he certainly got stuck in, in the short time he was on.

Trialist was Smith cannae mind his first name. With Stenny previous was offered a deal from Peterhead but didn't fancy the travelling.

I would say we were better than last week 316 at least we were creating chances, scoring 3 and hitting the post twice. However as you say its the goals we give away that's the problem.

Forgot to say, another poor referee. Where do they get these guys from.

Brett's yellow was ridiculous.

You can chuck in the one for Mullen as well booked after taking a free kick when Lister hadn't went back far enough, hitting him in the puss:lol:

Don't know why clubs still insist in not naming trialists you always find out who they are anyway:lol:

Bonkers eh. I'm sure we named Jordan Moore in a pre-season game which had a few Loons raising their eyebrows.
