In an independent Scotland, the voters will probably split right and left, meaning the Nats will eventually become irrelevant. You would likely get your 'left of centre' government then.

Some countries outwith the EU can still participate because they are members of the EEA. We've chosen not to go the Norway-style relationship so deserve to get fucked over. The problem, as was explained numerous times before the vote, is that there was never going to be a 'Soft' Brexit. A 'Soft' Brexit gives the EU all the 'control'. They would decide the terms. The EU simply cannot allow the UK to leave with a deal of any use because that would indicate to the other members that there isn't any point in being in the club. German cars though...

Nigel Farage, Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and all the rest would be making numerous visits to Dundee to say "See - we don't need to be in the EU to become European City of Culture." I would have thought the people of Dundee would be very relieved to know that these visits are not going to happen now. Any of the above named would not have left Dundee alive. Personally I would have loved to see them come here.

David Davis and the others pretend to be negotiating with the EU but in truth they are hoping that other countries will leave and the EU will implode or fall apart or whatever. That is certainly what the Daily Express and the Daily Mail would like to see. Must be very frustrating for David Davis when he goes to the negotiations and Michael Barnier turns up and says "Hey, I'm still here."

Kejan
The DUP, just like those anti-gay preachers - who end up in the cubicles of a regional airport with a male escort - are trying far too hard too hard. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/arlene-foster-brexit-customs-union-northern-ireland-dup-conference-a8075576.html Maybe I'll be wrong, but I think the DUP backing Brexit and so vehemently against there being any sort of special status for NI that a united Ireland is much, much closer than it was even after the Brexit vote. Turkeys voting for Christmas (in the long run). I hope that when the DUP types probably come to the 'mainland' and most folk probably just think of them as being Irish, they go back to Northern Ireland a little bit disappointed that no one knows a thing/cares that they are British.

The only turkeys voting for Christmas will be the RoI should they vote for reunification. Mind you, they'll probably expect the EU and the UK to pay for it.

At the moment, yes. See how this plays out, compromise will no doubt come into play. The RoI and the UK will cobble something together, which the RoI will be able to sell to the EU, and both sides will claim a "win". That's if Brexit ever takes place. ETA: My last post in The DUP thread - "Heard a couple of discussions along similar lines this last couple of days, "We're both islands, surrounded by water (really!)", so there could be flexible/fudged solutions provided that satisfy both the RoI re a hard border and unionists re UK geographical integrity. No doubt a compromise will be cobbled together which can be sold to both parties as a "triumph"." There is no practical compromise to the hard border that ‘full withdrawal’ will create. This is the pish that the DUP and Tories are spouting and ignores the reality that the remaining EU countries are not going to offer a leaving member an easy way out.

A hard border doesn't do the RoI any favours either. But I suppose the EU will be quite willing to screw over one of their minor members in order to "teach leavers a lesson".
