I saw that the other day. I have no idea how such a waiver would be compatible with EU rules and tariffs.

I think I might go back to my original plan, which was to smuggle slave labour from Scotland into Switzerland. Sounds like it will be much less effort.

You’re better staying with the Nazi gold hoarders and their cuckoo clocks.

I'm remodeling myself as a modern day Oskar Schindler and I will save all the young wids from the horrors of a Hobbesian, nasty, short and British civilisation by outsourcing them at rates below the Swiss minimum wage and making huge deductions to their salary for the convenience of being allowed to kip in the bunker adjoining our basement. LongTimeLurker
Another day another mental posture from the UK government: https://www.scotsman.com/news/politics/theresa-may-eu-must-change-unworkable-brexit-position-1-4771587 The backstop for NI was staying in the single market and customs union, so if that now has to apply as the backstop to the whole UK Rees Mogg and co are not going to be happy but they are the ones who pushed the amendment so that's clearly not the end game. This is heading for a no deal WTO rules level Brexit at this point and expecting the EU to budge is just a way to try to pin the blame on them.
The Holiday Song
The whole of the UK backstop idea... who is against that? The EU, Brexiteers or both? Why is the solution to this not just the UK is basically in the EEA until it has the technology (whatever that means) to solve the Irish border problem?
Blootoon87
I genuinely have no idea what she expects the EU to come up with. There has to be a border between the EU and a country outside of it as unless I'm mistaken? So that border will either be between Northern Ireland and the Republic or between a United Ireland and the UK. It's not complicated.

This Tory government does not care about respecting the Good Friday Agreement - her 1 billion bung to the DUP for a "majority" further highlights this. The movement of people and goods must be friction-less - even the use of technology for this will still allow some friction in some capacity.
Granny Danger
Theresa May on the news describing the Irish border issue as “unique”. It’s not unique, it’s not even close to unique; there are lots of hard borders between EU countries and non-EU countries.
