Guest Jedi
Media chat now that the Commons will just 'decide' to stay in a customs union, and that will enable the deal to get over the line, as if the EU don't get any say in that whatsoever... Of course a majority in the Commons will probably agree to a CU continuation, but why should the other 27 countries allow them to cherry pick, which they ad they wouldn't before. Is this what is now likely to come back on Monday? Still can't see a 2nd Ref or what the question on the ballot could be at this stage.

NotThePars
Momentum currently @‘ing every Tory rebel from yesterday asking why they’ve suddenly found confidence in the government. May’s absolutely incapable of building consensus and hasn’t once shown any indication that she’s willing to consider any other party’s opinion on Brexit so quite why anyone who doesn’t lobotomise themselves daily expects Blackford, Corbyn and whoever represents the Lib Dems this week to take her seriously is beyond me.

Everyone seems to be ignoring that she called him a racist anti semite across the dispatch box about 3 hours ago. Despite that, he has said that he will meet with her, and other parliamentary leaders, if she takes No Deal off the table. Liam Foxy now saying No Deal would have been out of the equation had her deal been voted through last night!

If we must leave the EU, I suspect this is by far the most sensible arrangement, and the one that a majority of people in the country could live with. No way the Tory extremists will go for it though.

Has the May the intelligence and guts though to marginalise the f*ckwits, and find a proposal that actually does have broad consensus ?
NotThePars
Exactly. Which is why the credulous reactions to Corbyn, Blackford and, eh, Paddy Ashdown (?) being sceptical of her intentions are so funny.

No. She'll keep trying to please Rees Mogg and the DUP until we go off the cliff. That's the ERG strategy but I think the DUP will blink at the end, they seem like they're getting more pressure from home, much more defensive and they keep bragging about the billion pound bribe they got. MP's from around the house have to mobilise around one plan to stop a hard brexit or a slightly rejigged May deal going through, in the main without the help of the leaders.

Guest Jedi
The Norway option doesn't include the Customs Union though. They participate in the Single Market but not the CU. They are also of course in Schengen. In addition have to abide by many EU laws, though not fisheries and agriculture. Would need the agreement of Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Iceland to join it. Someone could propose it as an option and it would probably command enough support in the Commons, but being in Schengen would cause uproar for Leavers. 'If' and its a big 'if' we end up in EFTA, it would kill off a 2nd Scottish Ref, as 'No' voters would largely be happy with that deal I reckon, and it makes it difficult to argue for Scottish Independence if the UK is still within an 'EU lite' arrangement. How the EU would agree to the UK remaining in the Customs Union without also signing up to abiding by EU laws not sure either.

And I believe Norway have already said that they would not automatically agree to the UK joining.

Guest Jedi
So, EFTA is out...Customs Union arrangement would solve the Irish border problem (as the whole UK would be in the same arrangement), but surely the EU would want guarantees on freedom of movement as well? Customs Union is the softest of soft Brexits. Presumably the Maybot has to get back to Brussels tomorrow now to come back with something for Monday's next vote.
