The European football level St. Mirren FC 2024/25 thread

The pink was chosen for a reason, to show inclusivity, which as I said in a previous post is a bit of a trope at this point. Like having a giant rainbow on stuff and saying "we support LGBT", you can be inclusive and supportive without needing to use the colours. We see this all the time with companies giving it laldy for pride month, changing their logos and twitter feeds (only in certain places of course, don't want company profits to be put at risk by being inclusive in a society - like Saudi Arabia - which is far from being inclusive) after the month is gone, it's just ignored.

However, what the club claim about the combination of colours is utter PR nonsense. It's an explanation to suit a decision.

How does pink "show inclusivity"?

Only a complete fossil would still think pink was a "girls colour". Pink has been used in football tops for a long time now. I hope that showing inclusivity is your assumption rather than anything stated by the club, as that would be a pure beamer.

That's pretty much my point, it is a tired old trope.

Pink, to Western culture, somehow means effeminate, effeminate means against the traditional heteronormative societal construct and therefore supportive of those who do not fit into that construct.

But who said it was to show inclusivity?

It's in the reveal. Do they explicitly say the word "inclusivity" no, but the phrase "together as one" is pretty clear.

Surely the "together as one" relates to the participants in the reveal rather than the pink trim? Why do you assume it refers to the colour?

I certainly took the 'together as one' as being it's the same kit being used by the men's, women and junior teams....

I mean come on, it's hardly subtle. Why use pink at all, it has clear associations and is not represented in the club branding at all.

Macron: Our marketing department thinks using pink will increase our brand image.
St Mirren: Em, ok, but we don't have pink as a colour.
Macron: This is your first order with us, right?
St Mirren: Yeah.
Macron: And you want a good deal, right?
St Mirren: Yeah.
Macron: So where do you want the pink then?
St Mirren: ...er, the away kit?

Sorry mate, but all of this is saying more about your views than those of Macron or the club.

What is it saying about my views?

Personally I just think you are being a bit obtuse here.

I'm 38, been going to games since 1990. In that time I've seen us wear purple, pale blue, orange!!, Yellow and others as our away kit.

You don't need traditional colours for an away kit. If anything we should go as out the box as possible as kids lap all that up!

To me it's saying you are the one associating the colour pink as having to be about inclusion, thereby you are the one still conforming to that "western culture" that no one else seems to share.

Anyone else logged into the new season ticket “app” yet?

I can see my season ticket but it says it’s not going to be active until Sept 2nd which doesn’t sound right!

Now showing 1st of August on mine so looks like it's fixed 👍

As for the new away shirt, I think it's fine. Not as good as last season, but it was unlikely to be anyway as that was our best away shirt ever.
