Failed Statelet Premier League

Recommended Posts

Really great draw there between Coleraine and Crusaders- a credit to the league overall and hugely enjoyable to watch again. There really is nothing between the sides so it will all come down to consistency in the run-in.

Linfield's defence looks all over the place at the moment...no idea what's going on there. Glenavon have a tidy side and must be confident of European qualification after that. Linfield and Cliftonville (who laboured rather before getting past Dungannon) don't look terribly likely to push hard for the top three in what's left of the season.

Ballinamallard, if they weren't before, are done after that single goal loss at Warrenpoint. Carrick are strange, they have some OK players but just cant make any progress towards closing the gap to Warrenpoint and Ards above them.

Nice day if you're a Failed Statelet fan, too, with Michael O'Neil knocking back Scotland and staying at Windsor Park. If O'Neil can maintain performance levels with a thin squad and re-shape the infrastructure of the national team in the next few years as he wants to, he could yet match Billy Bingham's record- something which in the nadir days of Lawrie McMenemy and Sammy McIlroy most observers never thought would be mached again.

He won't be staying with n Ireland champ.  I can see now why you were such an O'Neill fanboy this part time lark is of interest to you.  He'll be taking a club job, his first full time one ever.

Good chance he'll stay as NI boss, he's getting a big wage hike and overseeing youth development and structure which he's keen on,

Yeah it's possible, just thought he might want a club job given his stock will never be higher and he hasn't managed a real club yet.  Great deal n Ireland are offering though.

It's also a lot safer for him than anything else out there,.

Ballinamallard win an astonishing game against Cliftonville, 6-4. Top two win, Crusaders 6-0 v Carrick, who are very much in bother now, and Coleraine 2-0 at The Oval. Good win for the Bannsiders.

Ballymena and (10 man) Linfield drew 2-2 at the Warden Street Showgrounds and Dungannon beat Ards 1-0 at Stangmore. Glenavon and Warrenpoint drew 3-3 on Friday night.

Crusaders a point in front of Coleraine, then a 13 point gap to third placed Glenavon, who have 2 games in hand.

Down at the bottom Ballinamallard don't look as doomed as they did a fortnight ago, only a point behind Carrick, United with 10 points, Carrick with 11, although Carrick have 2 games in hand. Mind you. they are without a win in their last 16 games, so their games in hand might not be of much use to them.Tenth placed Warrenpoint Town have a 7 point cushion.

There’s little else on so I’m watching Cliftonville v Glenafton on Sky.

Is Northern Irish football always this shite?

It is when they're playing Scottish junior outfits...

Big game at the Ballycastle Road Showgrounds tonight, Coleraine v Linfield

Coleraine-Glenavon the clear game of the day today. Glentoran visit Crusaders. Glentoran usually take something from games like these then lose to the bottom club at home the next

Carrick are already needing snookers at the bottom and have to win at Ards today to keep a faint pulse this season

I'd say the Glens will get humped today in all honesty,

Crusaders starting to pull away, as Coleraine get another draw at home, and The Hatchetmen beat Glentoran. Coleraine need to start winning and hope that other teams can do them favours - I can't see it, myself.

Carrick give themselves a bit of hope with a crushing win at Ards, and Ballymena are through to the League Cup Final.
