The Daddy.

2. 3:4:5 triangle

For epitomizing the power of Pythagoras throughout maths, science and engineering. And to a lesser degree, that b*****d son of maths, statistics.

3. Equilateral triangle

Sweet Mother of some of the basic trig ratios, and facet in 3 of the Platonic solids. You don't need luck when you've got 60% of the population behind you.

4. Pentagon

Keeper of the secret of the Golden Ratio, through its internal pentacle that divides its own lines in mean and extreme ratio.

5. 17-gon

In honour of Gauss, its constructor, who has grown on me over the last 30 years now that I no longer have to do hard sums that are his fault.
