doulikefish
He's obviously got his reasons for doing this, but I'm not sure I see the point when you have just had a referendum. Maybe it will become clearer but I would have thought next step is UDI Especially as in Madrid some mp was telling the parliament to "guarentee"a Spanish win in the elections

welshbairn
Statement cancelled due to disagreement amongst the Catalans. I think new elections are the way to go, their best chance ever for a clear mandate, the referendum was never going to be accepted as the democratic will with only one side voting and the other side seeing it as an illegal stunt.

Can't disagree with any of that WB, but trusting Spain to be impartial in these elections is a big ask. Even a majority for independence parties guarantee them the Sq root of f**k all.

welshbairn
Couple of articles here by John Carlin who you might know from his football journalism, that got him sacked from EL Pais, a staunch Madrid paper. The one in the Times is behind a paywall, all I could find was a Spanish translation, but they both translate to English pretty fluently using google. https://elpais.com/elpais/2017/09/10/opinion/1505057260_026217.html https://gabrieljaraba.com/el-articulo-de-john-carlin-que-provoco-su-despido-de-el-pais/
